What is your favorite part of your house. What is your favorite downtime activity.
I think one of the reasons we fail to treat each other with respect is because we can't feel any commonality. We can't get past our political/religious differences to see the person behind the comments. In an effort to get to know each other better, I want to open this blog to each of you so you can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable doing. Or nothing at all. Me first. The part of my house that I love the best is actually on the outside of the house, our back patio, where I spend 90% of my leisure time. I have a 20 year old porch swing which is large enough to lie down on with room to spare. I sit, recline or lie on this porch swing and read every evening. There's a honey locust tree in the back yard which is a bird magnet. It's so peaceful and life affirming to watch this tree leaf out and turn colors as the months go by.

Well hell Audrey...............guess I can't tell you about my favorite part of the house!!!! (giggle!) Actually, I love my craft room, which is a mess right now, but I can close the door, turn on the TV (NASCAR/NFL/MLB) or radio (NO phone) and "create" to my hearts content. Creating something relieves my stress 'cause I'm not thinking about anything else except the project I'm working on :-) Lots of mess but NO stress!!!! Oh, you might mention that this blog will contain NO political/religious comments! hmmmm ok, I just did mention it for ya!!! posted by

There's nothing like dozing off on my recliner late at night while watching the Eternal Word Television Network and hearing the likes of Fr. George Rutler in his "Christ in the City" series and the station's founder, Mother Angelica, give the secular culture the smackdown.

Call me weird, but my favorite part of the house is the inside doorway area of the front door where we enter through. Two dark stained doors with oval mosaic glass windows, are erected with tan colored tiles on the inside. Outside, is a wavy concrete path that leads to the driveway. There's a nice floral colored rug, with black borders around it, where we place our shoes on. On one side of the front door is a dark wicker basket for slippers and umbrellas. On the opposite side is a dresser stand or something, but it comes with a separate large oval mirror that is mounted on the wall. On the dresser is an earth colored vase with fake red-orange poppy flowers. Every morning before I walk out to the world, I sit down on one of the dining table chairs next this area to lace up my shoes. Subtle morning lights go through the windows so it's not too dark nor too bright. Nice hues. I always checking myself in the mirror to make sure I'm groomed well for work. And everytime I exit throught the door, the doorknob makes the same creak. It's sort of my morning ritual everyday, I guess. posted by

Witters My yard looks nice in the picture because you can't see the crab grass taking over a flower bed in another part of the yard. ;-) edit Re: arts and crafts, I love them too. Needlepoint, crochet, refinishing furniture, sewing, whatever! posted by

I have a nicely shaded patio on the south side of my doublewide and when I'm not at my computer, I'm sitting there and it's a nirvana experience for me. Coffee with sugar and cream, pack of smokes, a book (or not). Heaven. I really, really love it. Heading there now. posted by

I can't picture myself sitting and gabbing with Pax in that environment since I'm a televison phobe, but with you Audrey, and with Witters and honorerdieu, it seems very cozy. posted by

My bedroom. It is my sanctuary. My children are not allowed in my room except when they need to tell or ask me something, or on the occasion they need to use my bathroom. I know some people hang out on their beds with their kids..Not me! I can go in there and just chill, I read, watch my History and Military channel DVR'd programs and, until Cassie moves out, it's where I play my guitars. Running a close second is the kitchen..I like to cook and that's where the food is! posted by

I like to read on the upstairs deck in the evenings. usually while I'm grilling some form of flesh. I have three pretty nice views of the ocean between the houses and trees. I do the cooking so I like the kitchen almost as much, nice views of the Dunes to the south, that's over the sink so I'm probably doing the cleanup or prep for dinner with a good stiff drink or a good Zin. posted by

It's something I've dream about for decades and with the down real estate market and historically low loan rates it was just bearly do able. Total fixer upper, had multiple families in it until mid 08. My favorite activity is just hanging around the beach and anything to do with the water. I see Bakersfield and Shafter people where I hang out in the mornings nearly every day. I would like to see some of the bloggers come by, I think might recognize some from the photos of the get togethers. posted by

I look at mountain properties all the time Anglo. Not that I can afford any of them. But, if I found one that was cheap enough I'd be willing to fix it up. It wouldn't matter if it was a one room shack, as long as it had a view of the mountains. posted by

I will let you know when my daughter is grown, we don't have any activities to go to and I get to have a favorite part of the house!!! We are never home long enough to get a favorite part. Although when I am home I love being outside, I hate being "in" the house, was that way when I was a kid too. working with the animals, gardening, anything outside. i love to sit in my chair and just watch our chickens peck the ground and wander around the back yard. I never knew how cool chickens were. posted by

Since my wife and I are new homeowners as of last month, I can proudly say that my favorite room in the house is my office/music room/man cave. I painted it my favorite colors: Garnet & Gold to signify my pride for my Alma Mater: Florida State University. This room is big enough for my desk system, a full electric piano, bookcases for both work related material and my entire collection of History/Philosophy/Religious books, my guitars, an entertainment center (which will have a TV in it soon enough) and many of my collectables (military memorabilia, etc.). Once I hang the guitars on the wall, I can fit a loveseat or recliner as well... and there'd still be plenty of space. posted by

FSG, there's a 40" LCD HDTV at Costco starting 11-12-09 for $499. Need a coupon. FYI. Crap..
Not sure if I want LCD.. I hear they're hard to view from an angle. We're thinking of Plasma to go in the living room, and then we'll move the regular TV we currently use in my man cave. I heard you have an awesome piano! It needs a lot of work, but I can't complain about something I got for free! And that your historic memorabilia is to die for. Thanks.. it's a fledgling collection, but quality is definitely better than quantity. I'm positive you'll be able to come view it one day. posted by

Don't forget to look up the energy effciency of the TVs you're looking at FSG. Plasmas can be energ hogs unless you're careful when selecting. Check the on-power and standby/idle usage on the specs. posted by

The corner of my bedroom where I have a desk and computer is one of my favorite spots. I can open the blinds and watch Allie watch me. When I was able to use the laptop I liked sitting at the DR table looking out the bay window. I didn't feel so isolated there. The other favorite is the couch will 2-3 pillows all piled up watching NCIS. (or my favorite obsession of the moment) I've never really liked living here so I can't say anyplace is my all time favorite. Just different places depending on what I"m doing at the moment. It's just a house. posted by

goldilox, if you need an ocean fix go to Surfline.com and enter Pismo Beach Pier and you get a near real time cam of the pier and a little north of there. You know I was joking about " Angle" being the name I really wanted. I was trying to be funny, acting silly about the spell check. We are new members at Opolo Winery so the Cabs and Zins are covered. posted by

I have been trying to decide which location I prefer. Right now since the weather is nice I like being outdoors and working in my yard and garden. I especially like working in the flowerbed that borders my front porch and my driveway. I try to keep it full of color all year long. I like sitting on the front porch in the mornings sipping coffee and watching the humming birds visiting this flowerbed.
