I just finished reading through some of the posts on schuler80's blog "Would you support a grocery strike". Just for fun, I tried to predict which side of the issue each (regular) blogger would argue. Guess what, I guessed correctly almost 100% of the time. Even the anons were predictable. So my question is, have you ever held an opinion that surprised your friends/family/co-workers (and yourself). Have you ever changed your mind and did an 180 degree turn on a hot issue such as:
I'm not out to hurt or take jabs at anyone. I'm sincerely interested. I did an 180, myself, on the first item listed about 20 years ago. Since then I've changed my mind and went against my party's platform four or five more times. Did anyone read the article in today's paper about the new FATWA passed by religious leaders in Cairo. It's called the breast feeding fatwa. This fatwa declares that the Islamic reastriction on unmarried men and women being together could be lifted at work if the woman breast fed her male colleagues five times to establish family ties. Muslims are angered because they are being ridiculed in Danish cartoons. Oh Duh. They're also embarrased by the attention the law has received world wide. My thought: it should make office parties a lot more interesting, but overall the law sucks. The recent barrage of stories printed in the Bakersfield Californian concerning the business practices of former health officer Jinadu leaves me confused if not bemused. For twenty years the Californian gave the impression though countless articles that Jinadu could do no wrong. We were led to believe that we (Kern County residents) were darn lucky to have him at the helm during our outbreaks of West Nile virus, San Joaquin fever, Bubonic Plague etc. etc. Now that his questionable business dealings have been unearthed during a failed attempt to move to San Diego as their health officer, the Californian is demanding the Kern County personnel department open his file so they can investigate (rehash) his stewardship of our health department. Why? If he still headed our health department, I could understand the concern. But he's gone! What would be the point of crawling through 20 years of employment records now? Why wasn't the Californian concerned about him while he was still here? Apparently he did a good job, otherwise they would have insisted that his file be opened earlier. Could it be that they want to make stories out of what (to Kern County) is a closed book? |
