Poll: 75% glad Bush is done
By Paul Steinhauser (CNN) -- A new national poll suggests that three out of four Americans feel President Bush's departure from office is coming not a moment too soon.
28% percent of those polled say President Bush is the worst president in U.S. history. Seventy-five percent of those questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey released Friday said they're glad Bush is going; 23 percent indicated they'll miss him. The poll indicates that Bush compares poorly with his presidential predecessors, with 28 percent saying that he's the worst ever. Forty percent rate Bush's presidency as poor, and 31 percent say he's been a good president. Only a third of those polled said they want Bush to remain active in public life after he leaves the White House. That 33 percent figure is 22 points lower than those in 2001 who wanted Bill Clinton to retain a public role. "It's been like a failed marriage," Schneider said."Things started out well. When President Bush first took office in 2001, more than 60 percent saw him as strong and decisive. That impression was confirmed after the September 11th attacks. The public still saw Bush as strong and decisive when he took office a second time in 2005. "But no more. The public has completely lost confidence in this president," Schneider said. Bush has dropped on a number of measures, but possibly the biggest is that only 20 percent say he inspires confidence, Holland said. "That's an important figure when the country is facing its biggest economic crisis in a generation," he added. When running for the White House in the 2000 presidential campaign, Bush promised to be a uniter and not a divider. But 82 percent of poll respondents felt that Bush did not unite the country, compared with 17 percent who said he did. "The vast majority of Americans believe he betrayed his promise to unite the country," Schneider said. "He took a country that was divided under President Clinton and he divided it worse." Only 27 percent of those questioned in the poll approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president; 72 percent disapprove. "President Bush's job approval rating has been at or below freezing since the beginning of the year," Schneider said. "The current 27 percent approval rating is one of the lowest ratings for any president, ever."
The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll was conducted December 19-21, with 1,013 adult Americans questioned by telephone. The survey's sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
Taken over the course of an hour. 6 am to 7 or so. With apologies to Clement Moore and Robert Price Twas the night before Christmas And all through the blog, Not a blogger was posting Not even Woof dog. Our comments were submitted with particular care, for fear that Jason Sperber soon would be there. The editors were settled at home with their booze, worried that poor sales would be front page news. And Cat in her sweat pants, and me eating a roll, and started to fight with a real Christmas Troll.
Ok someone else take it up from here. Here's mine. Heavenly Ham (It would be a canned 5 pound Farmer John if I was buying it) Mashed Potatoes (easy) Brown Gravy (the best powdered gravy money can buy, natch) Corn on the Cob (Should I roast it in foil or boil it?) Cranberry sauce (this time I'm using real sugar, not a substitute) Hot Rolls (Pyrenees sourdough pull apart rolls with melted butter and fresh Parmesan sprinkled on top) My mouth waters at just the thought of bread and butter. Mmmmmmmm Fresh Asparagus Spears with Hollandaise Sauce (I've never made Hollandaise, so this is iffy, but it'd better turn out because the asparagus spears cost $3.99/pound). Strawberry Jello w/ fruit and walnuts topped with Cool whip (the is a family tradition that I started and should stop because I'm the only one who eats it). A Mrs. Smith's Deep Dish Apple Pie* A bought Pecan Pie* *This is the first time I've ever bought pies for a holiday. Good or bad, I've always made my own. I feel like such a failure.
Fun time wasters. http://www.classic-consoles... Here's a link to the main game page of about 60 games. They'll keep the kids occupied. Maybe it's because I was still on the sunny side of 30. Maybe it's because I was still able to eat whatever I wanted without worrying about GERD, Cholestrol and High Blood Pressure. Maybe it's because the world seemed more innocent and people were less cynical. Maybe it's because my dad, sister, brother, uncles, and grandparents were still with us, strong and healthy and full of life. Maybe it's because I was still sure that the world was my oyster. Who knows. In any case I really like this song, even though it brings tears to my eyes. I almost got frostbite trying to get a decent shot. Unions won't trust Republicans for the next 100 years after THIS!

Republicans vs. the auto union
“Craven” Senate Republicans killed a bipartisan deal to save GM and Chrysler, said John Judis in The New Republic online, because the United Auto Workers, “desperate for the deal,” agreed only to phased-in, not immediate, cuts in wages and benefits, to the level non-union Japanese auto plants pay in key GOP senators’ home states. It’s “despicable” to let Japanese automakers who pay union wages in Japan, dictate what U.S. firms pay American workers. http://www.theweek.com/arti...
