County facing massive budget deficit. This is only the beginning.

Soon the City, County and Special districts will start layoffs.

I have seen a preview of the 1st qtr 2008 sales tax numbers, I sure hope our city leaders are prepared,

How do you know the City will start layoffs bubbleman? Can you back that statement up, or are you guessing?

It appears likely that county homeowners will be demanding more property reassessments as market values continue to drop resulting in property tax reductions that will further widen budget deficits.

 pon apartados?

muy específico!

mi pregunta primero would be, just how do you know, something which is so specific and so immediate to people's lives and well being (layoffs)

If you have sourcing, render it!  there are a lot of folks that might be distressed by your  "anything to trash Bush anti-economy rantings". one thing about bandwagons, they roll real easy. easy to jump on, get a free ride! people that get run over by the wagon though, are the ones who get hurt, not the  "piler oners"!

If you really know anything of substance, render forth, for the good of these good people!

Are you possibly referring to the perfect storm of all the raises and benefit changes (some more costly perhaps than the underlying raises per se) coupled with diminishing AV and subsequent property tax revenues exacerbated by sales tax decreases, etc.???

One simply needs to look around to figure out what is going on.

Cities and counties around the state have already started layoffs, see Sacramento and LA areas. Also, two Ca cities are on the verge of bankruptcy. If you need more details maybe you guys should turn off Rush and Hannity and do your own research.

Sales tax revenues continue to drop and property tax values & payments will decline. Local school districts are already facing budget deficits and are planning layoffs. The county is now short a few million. Soon the state of California will take more from the local governments and the municipalities budget woes will increase.

If this is unture, tell me where I am wrong.

The county started budget cuts due to the raises negotiated for by the union.  The day the negotiations were settled, the county started consolidating departments, not refilling extra help positions as their nine months were up, and changing permanent position to extra help to avoid paying insurance and benefits to those positions.  The strain of overwork was felt all over the county and still is.

that would be unions, plural, Nancy

I have it on good authority that slot machines in Indian casinos will save us. And let's not forget NAFTA; that's good for the economy. And if we quit being concerned about the illegal immigration and let these people work in our fields, then the cheap labor will stabilize food prices. Why the alarm? Our legislators on top of the problem.

Now, if this isn't enough, we can always raise sin taxes on cigarettes, booze, and hotel rooms. Or we can take a page from Nevada and legalize brothels. If every man over 18 patronized their local whorehouse, our kids will have a school to go to. See...problem solved with a few creative innovations.

Now that you chicken littles have nothing to worry about, you can maybe let the state assembly get back to important issues like putting sex deviates in school textbooks and the all-important "take your dog to work" proposal.

Plural Chico?  Only one was involved in the county negotiations that I knew about.  What other unions were involved?  I only paid into one.

Oh, I see bubble. Because other cities and the state may lay some employees off, you ASSUME the City of Bakersfield is going to also. You may be right, or you may be wrong. The point is you don't really know for sure....

 he just hates Bushy OB

doom & gloom plays right inta that

blame Bush for it

then we can get BO and friends (Wright, Farakhan, Shabazz, et al) in there and really have a good economy

only question then will be

FOR WHOM?

posted by randomfactor on Apr 16, 2008 at 10:54 AM

For about 80-90 percent of Americans.  The top 1 percent may have to put off the second yacht.
