Purses... Need I say more?

Shoes and purses. They just make an outfit. For some, they are a necessity and for others, an obsession.

I am somewhere in the middle. They’d be an obsession for me if I had the means. I’ve paid full retail price once for a designer purse and at the time, I had buyer's remorse for spending so much money. Even after heavy use during the ten years I've had the purse, it still looks new and I'd definately make the purchase again.

The cheap purses I buy usually fall apart within a month, so I’ve learned my lesson and I shop around for bargains on designer label purses. I keep it within reason though and keep a small collection of five designer purses that I have displayed in my closet.

Yes, a designer purse is a status symbol, but that’s not the appeal for me. I am drawn to them more for the quality of materials, construction and the design. My husband actually encourages me to buy my purses, but I can imagine for some couples, a purse obsession can become a real problem.

Onto the bargains! If you want to sproose up your wardrobe, where can you get some good purse deals? Well, a little secret is the classifieds. Click here to view all of the purses for sale. I think I like the Coach logo print with the white braided leather.

I’ve noticed that many locals are selling their purses for much less than you may find on eBay or other similar sites. (Maybe it’s mad husbands?) Plus, you can get the instant gratification of picking it up locally and not having to wait a couple weeks for it to ship.

But, as you would anywhere you are buying a pre-owned purse, do a bit of research and educate yourself of what to look for to make sure it is authentic.

Another bargain tip is to rent a purse. You can rent high-end designer purses that make Dooney & Bourke and Coach look cheap. It is pretty expensive if you do it for an extended period of time, but if you are looking for the perfect something for a special event or trip, renting a purse is a great option. I rented a $1,500 purse for a week-long trip and it cost me around $20. That’s much less than if I had bought myself a used bag in the size I thought I needed.  I’ve used and recommend Avelle, as known as Bag, Borrow or Steal.

Does anyone else have any bargain purse sales tips? Are you purse obsessed (or semi-obsessed like me)?

My teen girl has an obsession about purses (and shoes and make-up and clothes). Are women born with a purse-obsession gene? If so, is there a cure?

I like to use EBAY, if I'm looking for a dooney & bourke purse. It may be slightly used but hey, it's new to me!  Which reminds, I haven't gotten a 'new' purse in awhile.

I'm not a pursaholic (although I must admit to a particular weakness for beaded evening bags!), but I have boxes full of purses, simply because I can never find just the right purse!

I would pay a lot for a purse that exactly suits my needs, and is attractive and well made.

I am a backpack girl~ got used to it in school and love the safety and ease of use. I can never figure out purses~ strap is too short, won't hold enough, holds too much.... I own a regular sized one,a small one and a beautiful crotchet backpack for "dress" occasions. I'd love a nice leather one~ but the expense is not worth it for me.

That said I have a classic vintage purse fetish. I own several beauties,a octagon bamboo clutch,a black bag with a Bakelite handle,a Corde bag,a sequined 50's clutch and a prized black velvet "box" purse. Before I became obsessed with vintage ,I sold my mothers Lucite purse and some other wonderful high end bags ...oh well.

They go along with my hat collection of over 50 vintage hats that I never wear.

I love purses.  The more unusual the better.  In fact, I've crocheted vintage (from the 1910's)  beaded purses for my great nieces and as gifts to brides.

I can pass on shoes, but I can't pass up a good purse.

That reminds me to write up the ebay stuff for you Audrey and wasn't it Ghost who also wanted hints?  I've been off my feed for a few days now and not getting anything much done..but I will.

RE: purses.  I HATE purses.  I have two just alike from trying to find the right size.  Can't get it right.  One big enough to put everything in but not so big I fill it to weigh a hunnerd pounds.   I use the smaller one then get aggravated and switch to the bigger one then back.  I probably have 8 of the darned things.  Those are in blacks and brown..then I have a white one that looks dingy but I can't seem to throw away and a couple of clutches..Burgundy for one.  There there are the beaded evening bags I though would sell well on ebay..and didn't.  And then the envelope style I have listed right now in my eBay store.  Nary a nibble.  It looks like a 50's movie purse.    Not advertising but if anyone is interested my ebay selling name is the same as my email address.  I'd happily GIVE it to you..lol.  No sale involved.

My current purse is a tapestry that I got at the fair a few years ago with shoulder strap and a net for a water bottle.  A sort of cross between a mini back pack and a purse.  I found a black one just like it at a church rummage sale and will move my treasures over into that one.

edit..envelope purse is a genuine leather TONI with a patened magnetic snap (tag says so..lol)

Count me in the no-purse category. I use a backpack for the big stuff, a notebook bag for the medium stuff and a fanny pack for the everyday stuff. But then I travel light. For errands, all I need is my keys, wallet, cell phone, a pen and sunglasses which fit easily enough into a fanny pack. I'll use the notebook bag or backpack for work, depending on how much I need to take with me besides the notebook.
