I was not in my school band and I never really learned how to play an instrument. My mom played flute at her school and starting playing again last year after a long hiatus. She was motivated to learn again for my sister's wedding so she could play "Here comes the Bride" while my sister walked down the aisle. It was pretty squeaky, but very sweet. I guess this family has given up on the flute: Armstrong Flute..$100.00 In really good condition it was my child who took band...

I expect a bit of  "service" from the sellers if I am buying something in the classifieds and I wonder if I expect too much. I was curious to know what you expect. So tell me your thoughts on: How long should it take for a seller to return a call you left about their item for sale? Would you like a call if the item has been sold? How quickly after you talk to the seller should they meet you to show you the item?

Even while relaxing at home, my Grandmother wore a designer silk dress with pearls and heels, full makeup and her hair in a tight french twist. She was a very elegant Southern bell very concerned about keeping up appearances.  So proper, she even had to be called "Grandmother," not Grandma, Nana or any "nickname." Etiquette, obviously was extremely important to her. Yet, she did have one "tacky" habit that we all had to keep secret. She absolutely loved to...

I spotted this guy in the paper and his ears just cracked me up! There like these antennae sticking up straight in the air monitoring all household activity. I was an Art History major in college and the course I dreaded the most actually was the best one I ever had. It was "The Art and Symbolism of Africa" course and even though I found the abstract style of African art beautiful, I thought that I would be bored sitting through a semester of it. Really, how exciting could "primative" wood carving and textiles be at 8 am? Boy was I wrong! Just as like the continent, African art is diverse in style and rich in history. Once I...

Since I work for The Bakersfield Californian, I'm obviously really biased. I think our classifieds are awesome and the best way to buy and sell locally.  That's why I was asked to become a Bargain Betty contributor. I do have a dirty little secret. I love eBay too. I do strongly believe there is a time and a place for each. What about you? What would you only buy or sell in the classifieds or on eBay? What do you think the value is of buying locally versus buying from someone...

My first reaction was to laugh at this ad: $2 bills Old 1976 bicentennial dated. (30) at $3 each 393-2544 Why would anyone pay an extra dollar for each of these? Well, they could possibly be worth a little more. According to some quick online research I did, a star note, uncirculated, Kansas City series, 1976 bicentennial $2 bill can be worth up to $275. Some other uncirculated versions of the 1976 bicentennial bill range in value between $3-$25 each. Otherwise, they are probably just...

"Baby foot" is what this game is called in the French speaking parts of Canada. Sounds so cute! I always called this game "fussball" since I thought it was named for the German word for soccer, but I found out that's wrong.  However you say it, here's a great deal on this game: Foosball Table Harvard, Heavy Duty $100. 589-5602 / 204-0931 Depending on the exact model, Harvard foosball tables retail for $400-$600.
