Getting a human on the phone
One of my great frustrations with online sites, particularly those offering e-commerce, is the difficulty in finding phone numbers for customer service where you can reach a live human. (Disclaimer: bakersfield.com needs to improve in this area too; it's on my to-do list).
But thanks to a story on Slate.com that documents one person's quest to reach a human at iTunes, I found a link to Get Human 500. This is a listing of phone numbers for a variety of companies that allegedly will put you in contact with a human. Scroll down the list and you'll find lots of listings for stores and online businesses. You might want to bookmark this site for future use. --Logan Molen 3 comments from 3 users

If you can get the "voice" to say "I can not understand you,lets' try again"( or it's variant of that phrase)enough times, usually you can get a human.

On voice-activated systems, a healthy string of obscenities will actually kick you over to a human. Sometimes.
