Oh crap, I scored a 2!!!! And I'm due in November! But some of the questions are two-parters, like "do you have life insurance and a will?" I have life insurance. I'll say that brings me to 2.5. But I've never had much of a savings account in my whole life. Guess I never will, now! posted by

Just get on welfare. Food stamps, well baby program and other available programs. You can cut your costs to almost zero. We don't mind paying for you to have babies. posted by

I don't know... If she was married before getting pregnant, that's counts against her as far as eligibility for programs is concerned. Congrats anyway. posted by

LOL LOL Roy!!! Guess I never should of had my daughter 42 years ago!!!!! Had NONE of what is mentioned in the questions!! But then I didn't need day care as, for a least awhile, I was a stay at home mommie! When I did have to go to work, I had friends who would watch my child along with their kids and I just took, extra food, milk, snacks etc. When I paid for pre-school, it was $75.00 a month. I understand it is now closer to $500 a month!!! posted by

LOL LOL pawn!!!! I was married, then divorced. Needed help. Swallowed pride and went to welfare office dressed in a dress, heels & hose & no kid with me. Had a broken right arm thus could not work as a secretary. Welfare told me to get a job!!! Handed the black lady behind me, wearing a mu-mu, hair in pink rollers, flip flops, and 4 dirty kids with her, a check. Go figure. OH - I went home in tears, taught myself to print left handed (about a week of practice) and got a job as a bookkeeper at a carpet shop. Guy asked if I knew bookkeeping.............I thought, hmmm, balance my check book, so yes, I know bookkeeping!!!!

It's really not that difficult, and once you've done, it will be such a burden lifted. You'll be amazed. There is even software available to do it yourself. posted by

Well I got a 4 BUT my kids are grown now LOL I sure didn't have any of this stuff when I was married and having babies. I do understand why you should have most of the things on the list. Financial problems are very hard on a marriage!!! posted by

jbaldwin--join the "cart before horse" club. But take heart--marriage isn't the panacea it's made out to be. When I had my first child I had no ring on my finger, but I had a good job, good health insurance for me and my baby, a roomy house and a hefty life insurance policy. Then I quit my job to stay home with said baby and also married baby daddy. Then I got pregnant with my second child, and, because I wasn't working, I had no health insurance, no life insurance policy, a suddenly-crowded house and only my husband's income (which was plenty, but still.) The doctor bills, all told, were about $5,000 out of pocket. So whenever I worried about my unstable state, I tried to console myself by looking at that ring on my finger. It really doesn't work that well. posted by
