Looking for a cheap computer?

In these penny-pinching times, have you ever thought about buying a refurbished computer? Is it worth it?

SmartMoney.com has a good story about what to look for and ask about if you're thinking about buying one from a manufacturer or third party.

Me? I'm happy with my completely new laptop I bought earlier this year.

FYI, the link is messed up. Seems you left "ttp" from http in the paste.

Back on topic, I just built my own new computer for about $600 with shipping for the parts. It's not a path for everyone, but can result in a good machine for less money. There's many guides online about how to build a budget machine on your own for a similar cost. My favorite is the Budget Box ($800) at ArsTech: arstechnica.com/guides/buyer/guide-200805.ars/2  They also have a Value Gaming Box ($1200) guide: arstechnica.com/guides/buyer/guide-200807.ars/2 and a Green Gaming Box ($1100) guide: arstechnica.com/guides/buyer/guide-200802-green.a rs/5
