ChicoEsquela - > MOO! -> Republicans more satisfied with their financial affairs? Hmmmm.........
Republicans more satisfied with their financial affairs? Hmmmm.........
Eighty-one percent of Republicans are satisfied with the way things are going for them financially, while only 54 percent of Democrats and Independents are. Suck it, broke-ass liberals...........

81% - Republicans Most Satisfied with Personal Finances

Roughly eight-in-ten Republicans (81%) say they are largely satisfied with the way things are going for them financially, compared with much smaller majorities of Democrats and independents (54% each) -- the largest partisan gap recorded since the Pew values surveys began 20 years ago.

A decade ago, partisan differences in satisfaction with personal finances were modest, and in 1994 Republicans, Democrats and independents expressed nearly identical levels of satisfaction with their finances. The partisan split is especially notable among Americans of mid-to-low income levels. Three-quarters of Republicans with household incomes of $50,000 or less say they are pretty well satisfied with the way things are going for them financially, compared with just 40% of Democrats and a similar share of independents (39%). Even among Republicans who say they often do not have enough money to make ends meet, nearly six-in-ten (58%) express satisfaction in the way things are going for them financially. By contrast, just 30% of Democrats and 32% of independents who have trouble making ends meet say they are satisfied with their personal financial situation.

Seriously, I wonder why this is?

Of course we will have the usual suspects say it is due to Republicans ripping everyone off

But what is it .............. REALLY?

posted by ChicoEsquela on Dec 28, 2007 at 09:06 PM

I think it may well be that Republicans

More correctly

Conservatives

Have self directed stock market accounts and just leave less up to the vagaries of "the evil market"

IOW, they figure out what is going on and more importantly, what will go on, and invest accordingly

I guess it just goes to prove that ignorance is bliss.

I wonder if it's because liberals, no matter how much they have, think they still deserve some of yours if you have more than they do?  It very well could be genetic.  No cure.

I whole heartedly agree, anglo.  Well spoken.

Some wealthy liberal politicians think we should all give more even though they have more than anyone.

Maybe some, but I am perfectly happy with my financial condition..especially the older I get ,it seems the less I need or want.
posted by NancyII on Dec 29, 2007 at 04:46 PM
For me it's not a matter of wants but rather a matter of needs.  Housing and utility peeps are pretty demanding and groceries (especially popcorn) are necessities for me.  I need to keep as much of that yenom as possible.:-)

It could be that most libs are pessimists while most  conservatives are not.  Most Conservatives realize that  THEY are the reason for their successes and failures, not the Government, The boss or anyone else. It could very well be in the genes.

It's interesting that from this article anyone would draw the conclusion that the 58% percent of Republicans who have trouble making ends meet also have self-directed stock portfolios.

My guess is that Republicans are happy with less.  Look who they vote for.  :)

The irony of the tax talk is that Federal tax cuts tend to make Republicans poorer.  All those super-Democratic areas are the ones that foot the brunt of the bill for the more conservative areas.

As another possibility, Republicans are more likely to be liars.  Just a thought.

thats it tom

repubs are all liars

how wonderfully intellectual of you

Chico, I didn't say that.  It's just one possible interpretation of the data.  58% of Republicans who have trouble making ends meet report that they are satisfied with their situation.  Another interpretation is that part of the Republican definition of "having trouble making ends meet" means not having enough brie for the cocktail party or not being able to afford the big limo to go to the airport.
posted by anglo1 on Dec 30, 2007 at 08:27 AM
But Tom the majority of those are still satistied,  while only 30% of democrats apparantly would be happy with that situation.   But they would have their eyes on their wealthier peers ,wonder why they aren't happy and after all they deserve just as much as the ones with more or wonder why they aren't as happy as some with less. This is tongue in cheek right? Somewhat anyway.

Anglo, just for clarities sake, it's 30% of Democrats and 29% percent of independents, so the question is why are Republicans so unlike the rest of America.  It's not Republicans vs. Democrats, it's Republicans vs. the majority of the country.

Still, it goes back to my earlier hypothesis that Republicans may think they deserve less which explains why they vote the way they do.

Gaslight, it's interesting to me that Republicans tend to report everything is going well no matter what, whether it's their personal lives or the wars or the economy or the direction of the country.

There's a key to the whole thing, but I'm not sure what it is.

If their children run away. They got the uniter.

If it's gas money or food. They got the decider.

If some one rattles a Bush outside their bedroom window. They got the bounty hunter. Dead or alive.

Darn Republican America is, 'Big Rock Candy mountain'.

And the Dems haven't figured it out yet. :>)

Neverleft, the difference between Democrats and Republicans is that Democrats want to give billions to millions of people and Republicans want to give billions to 28.  You get your folks to stop writing million dollar checks to donors and I'll talk to mine about about your "survival of the fittest" version of America.
