Could it be the rock star Barrack and his old political hack are  "Palin" in comparison to the real party of  "change" ???

Nancy, not a dig at you at all.  You and I don't always agree (heh), but you've never been one to argue for things you don't honestly believe.

It was a dig more at Chico and folks like BakoSuperman (whose blog is STILL called "mitt") who pretend that no matter what happens, it was always what they hoped and always what they believed.

Tom, both Clinton and Bush waffled on their drug use.  Obama and  Palin admitted theirs.   I'd say it' s a draw and everyone should let that poor dead horse die.  People right here on the blog are STILL bashing Bush over alcohol and you think that's unbiased on the lefts part?

It's a different world we live in now.  The cadidates grew up in more liberal times where experimentation with maurjuana or even harder drugs are concerned.   In a perfect world,  none of them would have ever done anything illegal (even though Palin didn't) but we don't live in a perfect world.  I'm just glad they got it behind them...all of them.  Can you say that?

posted by TomW on Aug 29, 2008 at 01:16 PM

OK, Chico, just so you know though, someone added some little guys to your post that are laughing at you.

They seem to do that a lot.

Does this mean we'll have to start talking about issues now?

The supporters of the man-child were expecting a 15 point bounce coming out of Denver with big mo carrying them to victory.  And little Sarah Barracuda is flattening that bounce and stealing the momentum.  The hatefilled rants from the left should be expected.  I think it is called the denial stage.

Well Tom unlike you I will not even deign to tell you what you think or have thought, but I have been blogging on another board about Palin for some time.

You can think whatever makes you happy

But I have followed her career in AK since 2006 after a fishing trip there and listening to the locals talk about her.

I admit I was also touting Carly Fiorina, HP baggage and all, for a while. I felt like a woman on the ticket was what McCain needed not only for demographic reasons but others as well. It just happened that, of his available choices, there were more women out there who could really help him than men.

Of course,  as my obvious pleasure with his choice upsets you so much is an added bonus......

posted by NancyII on Aug 29, 2008 at 01:24 PM

Tom, Thanks for the compliment.  Probably the reason you see me argue for things I really believe in is because that comes from my core.  The rest is all fluff.  :-)

I don't know if anyone else remembers it but Chico really did bring up Palins name a while back.  At the time I remember thinking "WHO?"  and dismissing it from my mind.  I really thought he'd go with Romney, then it looked like Pawlenty....whouda thunk it would be Sarah  Palin?

After MY jaw dropped this morning I got a huge kick out of listening to the pundits and talking heads ALL stunned.   I think it was a magnificent move whether it takes McCain to the White House or not.  Just causing that magnitude of shock wave to a jaded political world was worth it all.

Nancy, agreed without qualification.

Chico, your pleasure with this choice brings me nothing but joy.  Seriously.

posted by ChicoEsquela on Aug 29, 2008 at 01:31 PM

Kay Baily Hutchinson, Meg Whitman, Carly Fiorina, Sarah Palin

All were candidates I felt would help the ticket far more than any of the men available.

I think he chose the best one after all

posted by TomW on Aug 29, 2008 at 01:32 PM

Nancy, Google and I don't remember him mentioning her before: http://www.google.com/searc...

I honestly would never have thought he'd pick her just because every time I've heard the name "Palin", it's been followed by the word "scandal" or "investigation".  I do think McCain already knows he's lost and they are setting Palin up for a run in 8 years.

MONACA, Pa. - Barack Obama's spokesman fired off a fast criticism of Republican John McCain's new running mate on Friday, but the Democratic candidate himself quickly stepped in to offer her congratulations and praise.

Obama, who is eager to win over female voters who backed his rival Hillary Rodham Clinton in the primaries, blamed the mixed messages about McCain's choice, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, on campaign aides with a "hair trigger."

As the plane was lifting off from Denver, Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton issued a statement calling Palin an abortion-rights opponent and "the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience."

Soon thereafter, with the plane over the Midwest, a spokeswoman gave reporters on board a much kinder statement from Biden and Obama.

"Her selection is yet another encouraging sign that old barriers are falling in our politics," their statement said. "While we obviously have differences over how best to lead this country forward, Gov. Palin is an admirable person and will add a compelling new voice to this campaign."

Gee, you don't suppose that BACKLASH they saw in the rear-view mirror had anything to do with the Obama campaign's change in tone?

The War Hero and Hot Chick Ticket.

How American

Just what this country needs....

She's  managed a household, had 5 children, run a business, been a member of city council, been a mayor, is a governor and commander of  the states National Guard.  And she's shot a moose.  Biden is a senior member of a club with a current approval rating of 14%.  And he's never shot a moose.  And doesn't need to be asked what his IQ is; he volunteers that...And he's  serial liar and plagarizer..  http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Leave foriegn policy and the war to the War Hero.  Sarahccudas job is to clean up the filth in Washington that has been piling up for decades...

Biden is going to tear her up in the debates. She doesn't even know what the Vice President does? Surely you realize she doesn't have 1/10th the foreign policy expertise that Joe does. I guess you guys are more concerned with the superficial stuff though.

Hey, don't give Biden a hard time for never having shot a Moose. He was busy riding Amtrak back and forth to work every day. Sarah won't have to ride the train though, I'm sure Cindy will provide the private jet to pick her up every day. That's how the elite like to travel.

posted by ronmexico on Aug 29, 2008 at 03:35 PM

Ya,  Just what does the VP do?? Just what did Al Gore do for 8 years beside invent the internet??

She has just as much foriegn policy experience as BO does, and he is the head of that ticket.  BO has no executive experience what so ever...  She'll rip both their nuts off and leave them glad they're unichs.

Interesting take on the experience issue here.

"Sure, Sarah Palin was a "hockey mom" before her entry into politics, but Barack Obama has never held a single full-time job for more than three years (and does not have many substantive achievements in any of them). When Palin entered politics, she successfully challenged the corrupt old guard of the Alaska Republican party. When Obama entered politics, he played by the rules of the Chicago machine. So, if experience is what matters (and we ignore the fact that John McCain is the one at the top of the ticket), is it really clear that we'd rather have Obama across the table from Putin than Palin?"

posted by NancyII on Aug 29, 2008 at 09:37 PM

Check out what it costs to ride Amtrack from Bidens home to his work and see if that story holds water.  And if it does, does that still make him one of the "folks."

Grandson said he didn't much care who won the election and really ddn't care who won VP.  After we talked about Palin and he saw the video he remarked "Any woman who can fire an M-16  with the military has MY vote."

Pup -- I mean it about a woman running.

Hey, I live with a woman that can (and will) kick my cakes mentally and physically if she puts her mind to it so I know who is REALLY in charge  ;-)

Tom and others try to allude all kinds of ulterior motives to my supporting a woman on the ticket but its as simple and complex as this -- I care about issues and if it takes a demographic anomally to get someone in office who shares my issues......... so be it ...... henceforth.......

I don't agree with Ms. Palin on the definition of marriage (('ve thought a lot about this one of late and I don't think my marriage is threatened if two dudes or two gals call themselves married -- to be honest on the ranch we substitutue the word  "buried" for  "married" anyway so figure it out   ;-)

If Obama had two brain cells to rub together (sans his super ego) he would have chosen Hillary and this would all be over......... Now he has the two suiter baggage of the Bidenpence to deal with and I saw him on the tube just now and he did not look good. He has to know that in this chess match he has been endangered by the queen and he may well be on the way to checkmate.

Good call on Amtrack Nancy -- Biden is fulla poop and the Libs won't care but we know.

I feel good Vanity, about America right about now, we have a candidate (even though just veep but she will be set up for POTUS in 12 if they can just get in WH) that I for one will go to war with. Going down to Repub HQ this weekend and donate time. I wasn't before.

Watch Palin on CNBC with Maria Baritonomo and you will see. She knows energy like these Libs wish they did. Its no wonder she is so popular in AK.

Experience? ha! She ran a commercial fishing operation, was a mayor, city council, on O&G transmission board, Gov............... Obama was an organizer and a  "present" no show in Illinois and do nothing for 142 days in US senate....... I'll take her experience over Barry's anyday......... and HE's running for POTUS not HER!

Libs -- be afraid......... Be very afraid.............

Wow, what arrogance.  When did Obama pick Biden for VP?  And there is no Obama-Biden paraphernalia for sale on the Messiah's web site.  Just Obama stuff, and lots of it.  Over at McCain's site, they already have a bunch of McCain-Palin merchandise.

Pup, nice to see you back! Get after that Peck person ... I'll get your back on that one. Horrific conditions.

Chico, great blog. I LOVE the pick. She proves to all women (and men) that you really CAN do it all without the Steinem chip on the shoulder.

Pup, Van, etc.......

My wife is punching me in my right shoulder right now from her lazy boy (as I'm extolling the virtues of Ms. Palin the Elk-Caribou killer-skinner-griller........)    ;-)

I'm telling ya.......... she is just too good to be true......... and she's p***n wife off because she's just too damn cute!

God -- now we gotta get a fuggugly ............. get a woman that looks like Biden if his pluggs took........

man, you just can't win......................

(BTW look at Palin on with Maria Bartinomo.............)

I seriously hope you are being facetious.  I'm glad McCain picked this relative non heard of governor who seriously lacks the the overall aptitude of being President of the United States.  I am sure holding the position as Govenor of Alaska has weight and is prestigous, however, that does not give her much expertise on a national level.  Kern county has more population than Alaska, but that sure doesn't make any of the county's supervisor ready for VP spot.

Thank buddha we have a strong alternative for REAL change in this nation.

drilnlift, there's a reason that Obama's store takes longer to update.  He doesn't outsource all his sales.  They actually have the stuff made in America and buy it and resell it.  It's one of the reasons he's outraising McCain.

Well, JJ, speaking of  "overall aptitude of being President" you might want to look more closely at YOUR candidate. And he is the top of the ticket as opposed to Palin. He has never had a real job other than  "organizing" malcontents and serving in Illinois Senate where he was mostly a no show and voted  "present" when he did show. Voting present is like being a no show BTW. He's served 140 days in the US Senate where, like his Veep mentor inside the beltway mentor, he just decided who to pay off with tax payer dollars -- thats some good experience isn't it?

Sarah has run a commercial fishing business, been a mayor, a councilman, and an O&G p/l commissioner, and a governor. I would say being governor of AK is equivalent to that of being governor of oh I dunno, say Arkansas?

You can put all your chips on the square represented by an empty suit who talks alot and I'll put mine on the square of someone who actually has a record of taking on the powers at be even in her own party and we'll see how the cards flop. That is our right.

I think she scares you. That also is your right.
