RF, apparently you missed my point. I firmly believe if a woman is qualified she should get the job. Period. Jobs should never be based on gender unless that gender affects a job. Case in point. I was once assigned to bartend a bachelor party. I was (and still am) a woman in my early fifties (no longer that) and was in a room full of randy young men with fists full of dollar bills and two strippers with a kiddie pool and Mr Bubbles. After that fiasco I raised holy hell with my supervisor and told her she should have assigned that to our young male bartender. It wasn't a matter of ability, it was a matter of what's appropriate for everyone's benefit. My POINT is if you're big enough, tough enough, smart enough, and quallified, there's no reason anyone shouldn't be in public office and your sex should not be used aganst you. Especially as a smoke screen or red herring. posted by

PP considering the prez candidate is inexperienced and chose experience as a running mate I think experience as a prez and less experience as a running mate makes sense. Even the commentaters are bowled and most impressed. It will be interesting to hear what Hillary will have to say along the line of "just because a woman." posted by

It will be interesting to hear what Hillary will have to say along the line of "just because a woman." I imagine she'll congratulate Ms. Palin on her choice. She's certainly come a long way since two years ago when she was the Alaskan equivalent of the "mayor of Oildale." It would be a bit awkward for her to point out that the *ONLY* reason Ms. Palin got selected was for her beauty queen past and possession of a bajingo. I was interested to learn what Kay Bailey Hutchinson said about McBush being known for sowing his wild oats, when asked about Palin. posted by

Unless the Left can engage in enough voter fraud to make a difference, we may well be witnessing history. The first woman Veep, showing us the way to true energy independence, becoming the first POTUS in 2012. The Left will attack her in every conceivable way -- ex-BIL scandals, being pro-life, having kids she must be neglecting, running 5 and 10k's in her spare time, hunting moose, NRA lifetime member........... In time it will be viewed as what it is however.......misogyny at its best........... posted by

It didn't matter who McCain picked, the commentators would say it was a great pick. They have to keep this one close, so people will watch their commercials. McCain has about as much presidential experience as Obama. Neither of them have been POTUS. Palin makes Dan Quayle look experienced when he was picked. She's a gimmick pick for sure. posted by

I admit I knew nothing about her other than her defeating an incumbent Rep for governor. The more I find out the more I like. My first choice was Romney but I am happy with Palin. Actually my choice would have been Newt. She's experienced, pretty, pro life, pro 2nd Amendment , and the only one with political managerial experience on a high level ,everything OB's not. posted by

I've explained it to you before Pete. So sans being redundant, I will just tell you that it is more than just drilling. Palin's CH4 pipeline is just another bridge to our energy Independence, as is ANWR, OCS, and exploiting other hydrocarbon reserves already proven. We need conservation, wind, solar, geothermal, bio (esp micro algae), tar sands, shale, enhanced tertiary recover of proven fields, (e.g. Bakken), nat gas, NGL's and LPG's, hydro, nuclear, all of it. Sarah Palin is hip to the real skinny on energy, unlike the Pelosi (CH4 is not fossil fuel) Dems......... posted by

A candidate that doesn't seem to be imbeded with the old D.C. crowd is very refreshing. I'm really starting to like this, especially the heads spinning on the left. All the Romney attack ads are out the window and money wasted. Got to be disappointing to those that wanted to make fun of his religious beliefs.

We "import " most of our oil from Canada, Saudi, and Mexico, I think most people know that. We are approaching a level of 70% imports presently. We use about 20 mil bbls a day which translates to 7.3 bil bbls per year. What most people don't realize is that there are billions potentially recoverable in OCS, and just that coupled with utilization of CH4 and clean coal usage can make us virtually energy independent in just a few years if handled right. But these are "fossil" fuels (unless you go to the Nancy Pelosi School of Geo-Science) and the Left doesn't like that. If we use the fossil fuels as a bridge to other forms of energy, meanwhile increasing refining capacity, we can get to energy independence much sooner than the Loons of the Left will have you believe. Palin is well versed in this BTW....... posted by

Because it is [part of the platform] as elucidated by McCain. But, that notwithstanding, I was delineating my personal platform, not trying to be partisan about it. Can you bring yourself to do the same? Sarah Palin has done more for ethics reform in Alaska in a handful of years than Biden has done in 35 (let alone 20)......... I already posted her Larry Kudlow CNBC clip where she talks about energy. You just can't accept that a woman knows more about energy than your entire party (let alone your own goodself . posted by

Purely from a strategic viewpoint, Palin only has 2 months to "introduce" herself to the country at large. That's not a lot of time for anyone hinging their vote on McCain's VP choice. The choice of Biden was different because he was a known commodity--you already either liked him or you didn't. I don't really think it would have mattered to most people who McCain picked anyway, though. Let's face it--people have already divided up along party lines (myself included) and McCain could have picked Darth Vader for all anyone would have cared. What I think is funny, though, is that, by choosing Palin, it really does seem like McCain is trying to nab any undecided Hillary supporters. Considering that most (if not all) of Hillary's supporters were pro-choice, picking no-choice Palin was kinda wishful thinking. Ya know, 'cause the gals just vote for other gals, and not because of, like, ISSUES or anything complicated like that. posted by
