A year or so ago I was contacted by a playwright, Jonathan Dorf, who had caught wind of a local high school that was producing one of his plays (without permission). This happens more often than it should and we had a little conversation back and forth about it. Schools often use snippets of plays to perform scenes and monologues for competitions, and sometimes even perform an entire play with copied scripts and no intention of paying royalties. It isn't always done with malice, sometimes people don't even know they should contact an author before using any of their work...but it is a big problem for someone who makes his or her living by WRITING! I told Jonathan that I would enjoy reading a blog or article about paying royalties from an author's point of view...and I'm sure many of you would as well. So here it is.

To read the entire text visit his website at http://jondorf.com/news0209...

It's about 1/3 of the way down the page.

Copyright infringement is a serious problem. How serious? Every year, the failure to pay royalties or purchase cast copies deprives playwrights and their publishers of thousands and thousands (if not millions) of dollars in income. My play After Math has been produced without permission 5 times (that I know of), and both Thank You for Flushing... and High School (non) Musical have had their own infringements as well.

Most people who break copyright law do so out of ignorance. The antidote for ignorance, of course, is information. Feel free to print out this guide, forward it, pass it on to everyone you know who directs or produces plays. If you're a student, show it to your teacher.

I cannot believe it’s a been over a month now that I haven’t seen a minute of 29 Eyewitness News…watched Miles Muzio give the weather…or Bakersfield’s best news team ask the hard questions.  I’ve not seen one minute of CBS or Fox programming.  I missed the Playoff Games…had no choice but to skip American Idol this year…and the Super Bowl probably won’t be playing on my TV in February.

I understand that Dish Network is partly to blame for this.  But it is your job as my local affiliate to bring CBS & Fox programming into my home.  I wonder if Fisher Communications and all of the KBAK and KBFX staff have considered this problem from MY point of view…as the viewer.  I turn on my TV and there’s local NBC, ABC, and PBS networks.  KGET has a decent local news broadcast and many of our favorite shows…The Office, and such.  After a while you learn to live without the shows you aren’t getting. My wife records Martha Stewart reruns from a different channel, instead of in the morning on Fox.  We watch a movie instead of American Idol on Tuesday night.  Probably nothing to miss anyway.  My parents, who live in Bear Valley, have been avid American Idol fans for several years.  This year, for some reason, all of these odd anomalies started appearing on their DVR recording.  Important Message from Dish Network.  No American Idol.

I just hope you realize that when you tell Dish to SUCK IT you’re basically telling me, a lifetime viewer of your channels, the same.  And you’re telling your advertisers, who I’m sure would be happy to have their messages viewed by my family, as well.  Well, Fisher Communications, suck it yourself.  If there’s one thing the last month has taught me it’s that I can live without you.

To be sure, those of us who are learning to live without you are mad at DISH as well.  But they are a giant corporation.  They won’t listen and this situation doesn’t seem to be hurting them any.  They provide hundreds of other channels, besides.  But you are channel 29!  You’re local, friendly, and have always been in our lives.  I turned to you with a big metal knob when I was 5 years old, for pete’s sake.  You should listen to us!  Having a big fight with Dish isn’t helping the only people that matter…your viewers!  By the time you figure this mess out you will have lost all of us anyway…

Having recently experienced a variation of the story ourselves, my wife and I jumped at the chance to see Stars latest show.  Baby explores the consequences of life's most universal miracle...pregnancy.  The musical follows three couples at different stages of their lives as they grapple with the task (successfully or not) of bringing a baby into the world.

The audience follows thre three plot lines as the couples encounter situations that range from comical to downright moving.  The comedic style and awkward predicaments reminded me of films such as 9 Months and Father of The Bride Part II (both hilarious, by the way).

The on-stage conflicts are perhaps not quite as ground breaking as they would have been in 1983 (when the show debuted on Broadway) but the incredible musical numbers and biting comedy will certainly be a delight to anyone who has been a parent...or was raised by one.

Thank you, Stars, for all that and the delicious key lime pie as well.

This Week In Bakersfield Theatre - weekend of April 27th, 2008

Two Sisters & A Piano opens this weekend for a two-week run at Bakersfield College's indoor theater.  Four multi-week shows continue at the Spotlight, Gaslight, Stars, and the Empty Space.  North High School is presenting Ondine this weekend only.

I've added a photo gallery from A Chorus Line, auditions for BCT's One Act Festival, and information on the re-opening of BMT's School of Performing Arts.

If you're looking to audition for a show and don't have much experience, I suggest giving the One Act Festival a go.  It's low-pressure and a great opportunity for new directors, actors, and others to try out their stuff.

Lots of great shows playing at the end of April and into early May, go out and see some and let me know what you think.

Shows:

Two Sisters & A Piano

Plays through May 3rd

April 24, 25, 26 & May 1, 2, 3

$8 General Admission
$5 Students, Staff, & Faculty

Set in 1991, during the Pan American Games in Havana and while the Russians are pulling out of Cuba, this play portrays two sisters, Maria Celia, a novelist, and Sofia, a pianist, serving time under house arrest. Passion infiltrates politics when a lieutenant assigned to their case becomes infatuated with Maria Celia, whose literature he has been reading.

“It’s one of the most fascinating cat-and-mouse games to be seen on the stage.” —Star-Ledger. “The beauty of TWO SISTERS AND A PIANO is its refusal to paint characters in black-and-white. Cruz’s tightly constructed study of incarcerated sisters—provides the spine for an authentic study of oppression that bends but never breaks the human spirit.” —Variety.

The North Star Players present "Ondine" by Jean Giraudoux

Out of the night and out of the sea springs a beautiful nymph.  She falls in love with a handsome knight and they are married.  All too soon, they learn that their love is too ideal to survive the shocks of the world.  "Ondine" is a romantic fantasy that truly is lyrical, philosophical, imaginative, touching, and often humorous.

Shows are on April 24, 25 & 26 @ 7:30 pm
In O'Neill Hall at North High School

Tickets are just $4

A Chorus Line

Plays through May 10th

April 18, 19, 25 & 26 and May 2, 3, 9 & 10 at 8PM

May 20 & 27 and April 4 at 2PM

One of Broadway's longest running shows ever, the classic musical A Chorus Line is a stunning musical-verite about a chorus audition for a Broadway musical. It tells of the achingly poignant ambitions of professional Broadway gypsies to land a job in the show, and is a powerful metaphor for all human aspiration. Memorable musical numbers include I Can Do That, The Music and the Mirror, What I Did for Love, One (Singular Sensation) and I Hope I Get It.

Directed by Hal Friedman, A Chorus Line is a brilliantly complex fusion of dance, song and compellingly authentic drama. For tickets and information, call the Spotlight Theatre Box Office at (661) 634-0692, or visit us at 1622 19th Street. Tickets in advance are $15 for general admission, $12 for students, seniors, and active military, and $7 for children under 11. Tickets are $3 more on the day of the show.

How The West Was Really Won

Plays through May 24th

at The Gaslight Melodrama Theatre & Music Hall

Written by Arnie Carlos
Directed by Michael Prince

The old west is full of tales tall and small. Some might say the truth gets a bit blurred when they’re retold. But they wouldn’t say that if they were talking about ol’ Snake Willoughby, former Sheriff of Deadwater, AZ in the late 1880’s. Snake lived the kind of life that legends are made of. Watch as Snake relives some of his most daring battles and narrow escapes. From the arrest of Wild Bill to the defeat of Dastardly Diego, you will be in for a rip-roaring, side-splitting , rootin’-tootin’ hullabaloo. Chock full of a wild cast of characters and plenty of Melodrama action, this is one show the family won’t want to miss.

The Bourgeois Gentleman

Plays through May 3rd

Molière's The Bourgeois Gentleman is a seventeenth century farce about a self-made man who tries to buy his way into society. This light-hearted play tells the story of the wealthy Monsieur Jourdain, who spends extravagantly in an attempt to appear cultured and genteel. He can afford the finest clothing, the most precious jewels, and the most clever tutors Paris has to offer... unfortunately, he is preposterously out of touch with reality. As Jourdain hires various instructors to train him in the Arts (succeeding only in making himself appear foolish to everybody but himself), his long suffering wife tries vainly to beat some sense into him - and protect her family from the greedy Count Dorante - while finding her daughter Lucile a good, middle-class husband. The Bourgeois Gentleman was a social satire in its time, exploring the themes of class and wealth, but modern audiences can sit back, appreciate the satire, and take in the wacky hilarity of it all!

The cast includes Andrew Ansolabehere, Jennie Babcock, Matthew Borton, Norman Howard Colwell, Jessica Delcid, Ellie Garber, Bob Kempf, Steven Littles, Julie Jordan Scott, Haley Sullivan, Ron Warren, Ryan Watts, and Joyce Weingarden.

Performances are April 11, 12, 13, 18, 25, 26 and May 2 and 3 at 8:00PM with special Sunday matinees on April 20 and 27 at 2:00PM

Admission is FREE with a suggested donation of $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. The Empty Space is located at 706 Oak Street in the Pizzaville shopping center. Major League Improv

Saturday Nights at 6:00 PM

Major League Improv performs most Saturday nights at 6PM at the Spotlight Theatre.

What is improv comedy?

Unlike "Standup Comedy" in which one performer tells pre-planned jokes to the audience, improvisational comedy involves a whole group of performers making up scenes and playing games on the spot based on audience suggestions.

What is a Major League Improv show like?

A Major League Improv match features two teams of improvisers competing for laughs and points, with a referee keeping things moving and calling fouls. An average of seven to twelve games are played during a match, drawn from a repertoire of over a hundred improv games. In "Shakespeare" a team will improvise a scene inspired by an audience suggestion in Shakespearean style. In "Elimination Rap" players will create a rap on the spot, trading off each other's phrases, getting thrown out if they fall off the meter, or fail to rhyme. In "Forward/Reverse" the referee sends the scene back and forth at will, as though scanning a scene in a VCR, sending the players into a frenzy. Every show is different, with different players, different games, and different audiences supplying new suggestions.

The Somewhat True Tales of Robin Hood

Final weekend!

Teen Show

Playing at Bakersfield Community Theatre

Written by Mary Lynn Dobson

April 11, 12, 18, 19, @ 7PM

April 13 & 20 @ 2PM

It sure is hard to be humble when you're a swashbuckling, egocentric super-hero. But our gallant guy tries his best as he swaggers through The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood. It is a frantically funny, Monty Pythonesque retelling of the classic. The legendary legend, in his never-ending quest to aid the needy, encounters a lovely damsel-in-distress (oddly obsessed with skin conditions); an ever-scheming sheriff who would rather bowl a strike than hit a bulls eye; a gold-hoarding, bad-guy monarch wannabe; and a good-natured "Town's Guy" who manages to make his way into every scene, whether he belongs there or not. Combine them with an expandable band of spoon-wielding Merry Men whose collective IQs equal six, and you've got an irreverent jaunt through Sherwood Forest you won't soon forget!

This American Life - Live

Sent in by Jim Pappe:

This isn't exactly theater, but I think the kind of people who enjoy theater would enjoy This American Life. If you haven't experienced this radio variety show or its Showtime video version, you can get a sample of it at http://thislife.org.

They are showing a live feed of it May 1 at 8pm at the Edwards 14 at the Marketplace. Tickets are $20.

This American Life - Live! Tickets on Sale Now

Normally when we take our show on the road, we can only visit five or six cities. Not this time. This time we're going to hundreds. We're talking Alpharetta, Georgia...West Monroe, Louisiana...Pueblo, Colorado...Swansea, Massachusetts...all over the place. Well, sort of. We're actually doing one live show, filming it in high definition, and sending it via satellite to movie theatres all across the country—live. Ira will unveil brand-new stories from the upcoming season of our television show, perform a radio story, answer audience questions, and more!

No other public radio show has tried this before. We're psyched.

It's one night only: Thursday, May 1 at 8 pm EDT/7 pm CDT/6 pm MDT and tape-delayed at 8 pm PDT (we wanted it all to be live, but figured a 5 pm start would be pushing it for lots of you West Coasters). Tickets are sure to go fast in some areas, so buy yours now!

Important Notes: On the ticketing page, you can search for theatres near you. We're at the mercy of theatres' capability to show a live, digital satellite feed, and the equipment for that takes significant time and money to set up. So unfortunately, we can't accommodate requests to screen the show in additional venues. Everywhere we can show it, we are. Thanks for understanding.

This Week In Bakersfield Theatre - weekend of April 13th, 2008

The Bourgeois Gentleman and Somewhat True Tales of Robin Hood open this weekend at The Empty Space and BCT.  One is a 17th century farce about how you can't buy class and the other is a teen show that presents a silly retelling of the old English folk tale about a noble man who robs from the rich, gives to the poor, and lives in the forest with his band of merry men.

Cats & The Pillowman, drastically different but both very compelling, will be closing this weekend with final performances at BMT and The Spotlight.

Playing this weekend only is Warren Dobson's Just Kidding.  The scene-stealing piano man at the Melodrama writes and directs the sequel to his 2007 "Farewell Show" entitled Once More Before I Go.  I urge you to see it or next time Warren might actually leave!

I also must mention that Carol Channing will be performing at CSUB on April 25th in a show called Salute To The Arts.  I saw a commercial last night on local TV and it was a bit scary to be honest.  I realize she is a broadway legend but this woman is slightly bizarre in her current state.  Here is a short but strange YouTube clip of her lecturing at another college.  Yeah, see what I mean?  Better yet, check out Ryan Stiles imitating Carol Channing in a series of clips from Who's Line Is It Anyway.

Don't forget about auditions, Rock-Fu & Cat's Opening weekend recap...Puppet Theatre...Women's History at BC...local talent contest...and Major League Improv.

Shows:

The Bourgeois Gentleman

The Somewhat True Tales of Robin Hood

Plays through April 20th

Teen Theatre

Call 831-8114 for reservations

Cats

Final Weekend

Get out the tuna and a bowl of catnip, ‘cause Bakersfield Music Theatre (BMT) is performing “Cats!”  This show is still as fresh and fun as when it debuted 26 years ago on Broadway on October 7, 1982.  For those of you who may have lived in an isolated moon-colony or on a small deserted island for the past 26 years, this is the award-winning musical composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber based on Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats and other poems by T. S. Eliot and was, until January 9, 2006 at 7,485 shows, the longest running Broadway show (when it was surpassed by The Phantom of the Opera).

BMT director and co-choreographer, Brent Rochon has assembled a cast of cats and kittens that is definitely music to the eyes and ears.  With a production team including Brenda Baldwin as vocal director, Kristin Doolittle as co-choreographer, Jennifer Keller (fresh from “La Cage Aux Folles”) and Mary Van Worth on costumes, this show is a must see of the BMT season.

The cast includes some of the best-of-the-best of BMT; Brenda Baldwin as ‘Grizabella’(you read correctly, she’s vocal directing AND performing), Maceo Davis as ‘Skimbleshanks’, Mickey Farley as ‘Bustopher Jones,’ Al Gains as ‘Gus’, Jeff Malone as ‘Old Deuteronomy,’ Jennifer Prow as ‘Jellylorum’, Brent Rochon as ‘Rum Tug Tugger’(yes, he’s directing AND singing/acting/dancing), Kevin Trueblood as ‘Munkustrap’, and Pegeen Witt as ‘Bombalurina’.

A dazzling array of dancers/singers/actors includes some wonderful new(er) talents as wells as some of Bakersfield’s best:

Erica Ackerley – ‘Etcetera’

Alicia Angelini – ‘Cassandra’

Shay Brandon Burke – ‘Macavity / Plato’

Ali Dougherty – ‘Demeter’

Bethany Feil – ‘Pouncival’

Madeline Grahek – ‘Electra’

Armando Guillan – ‘Mungojerrie’

Kelci Lowry – ‘Exotica’

Yannis Mallory – ‘Alonzo’

Natalia Mallory – ‘Tumblebrutus’

Jamie Miller – ‘Coricopate’

Sarah Miller – ‘Tantomile’

Megan Oliver – ‘Admetus’

Victoria Orudaz – ‘Victoria

Rachel Sanders – ‘Jemima’

Tara Shearer – ‘Carbucketty’

Catlin Shearer – ‘Rumpleteazer’

Mason Trueblood – ‘Mr. Mistoffelees’

Hannah Warren -         & nbsp;       ‘Jennyanydots’

With gorgeous sets, beautiful lighting, stunning costumes, and music you’ll never forget; “Memories,” “Magical Mr. Mistoffelees,” and the “Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats,” this will be a show you’ll remember forever.

There are just three (3) shows for the public; Saturday, April 5th (8:00 pm), Sunday, April 6th (2:00 pm), and Saturday, April 12th (8:00 pm) and tickets are going fast-fast-fast!  All shows will be performed at Bakersfield High School’s wonderful Harvey Auditorium located on California and H.

The Pillowman

Final Weekend!

March 28 & 29 and April 4, 5, 11 & 12 at 8PM

This play contains adult themes and may not be suitable for children.

The Pillowman, winner of the 2004 Olivier Award for best new play, presents the story of Katurian Katurian (Justin Brooks), the writer of a number of strange tales in which children have been tortured or killed in strangely exotic, fairy-tale fashion. Unfortunately for him, a series of child killings bearing an uncomfortable similarity to his stories have recently occurred… Leaving Katurian and his mentally impaired brother Michael (Ronnie Hargrave), as the prime suspects.

During the course of their interrogation, two policemen— self proclaimed "good cop" Tupolski (Brian Sivesind) and his far more menacing colleague, Ariel (Joel Walton) -- utilize extreme physical and psychological measures in their quest for a confession, not the least of which is the threat of summary execution.

Directed by Jarred Clowes, The Pillowman is brilliantly written with a blend of dark comedy and chilling drama, with the frequently hilarious and profane dialogue making palatable its more terrifying moments. Stuffed with provocative themes, not the least of which is the relationship between emotional turmoil and artistic creativity, it works on a dizzying array of levels, both literal and metaphorical, that make it a work of dazzling richness.

Cats: Opening Weekend Recap

Sent in by Helen Prine

Let me start this off by saying that I was an "immigrant" from San Diego.  I worked with all the major theatre companies down there and almost all of the equity theatres including Starlight and Moonlight.  When I first moved up here (1993), my first show I auditioned for was "Streetcar Named Desire."  Coming from a "big city," I had this 'tude of "who on earth would they get to do this show," and "who on earth would come see it."  I was quickly...VERY quickly... put in my place.  We had an excellent cast with Catherine Mello as "Blanch" and Jimmy Trino as "Stanley".  I had the privilege of working opposite these two extremely talented performers as "Stella" and since then have always been so impressed with the talent that is here in Bakersfield.

Saturday night was no exception.  "Cats!" was wuuuuuuuunderful.  The cast is just sublime and the dancing is the best you could see anywhere.  The cast has taken what they learned about make-up from Michael Ornelaz and have added many of their own personal touches that just add the layers to their characters.  Robby George and Julie Gaines have done wonderful things with some of the "specialty" cats.  I've attached two photos Robby sent from opening night.  Robby with the cast of "Cats!" and him working on "Alonzo's" (a.k.a. Yannis Mallory's) make-up.

Anyway, the show was excellent - from the orchestra (conducted by Doug Kelly) with additional vocals by our "Pit Kittens" Bob Anderson, Forrest Madewell, Jennifer Piccollotti, and Pam Reil (some of the best singers I've ever had the pleasure to perform with), to sets, lights, and costumes.  The audience just raved.

Unfortunately, there's only one more show for the public, Saturday, April 12 at 8:00 p.m. (325-6100 for reservations)

In my own version of the "Thumbs Up" I give it the "Popping Cork"

which is to say, you mustn't just 'go' see it, you must FLY out and see it!  : )

This Week In Bakersfield Theatre - weekend of January 27th, 2008

This weekend "Radio Razzle Dazzle" opens at the Melodrama and we've added a few more auditions to the list.

In last week's newsletter I talked about "Up" and "Cinderella," so this week I'm going to talk a little about "Imaginary Friends" and "Little Women."

Imaginary Friends
centers around the infamous literary feud between legendary authors Mary McCarthy and Lillian Hellman.  They continue their war of words (and more) in hell, in this surreal farce presented at the Empty Space.  The show is interspersed with witty songs and commentary from the chorus.  Guinevere writes in:  Saw the show opening night and enjoyed it a lot.  The audience seemed to like it too.  It was a pretty decent crowd especially for an opening.  Lots of college kids came from a class so thank you whoever that was!  Kudos to the Empty Space for always striving to to present works that are compelling and truly different from anything else shown in town.

Little Women first opened on Broadway in 2005 and follows the saga of the March sisters—Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy—as they grow up in Civil War America.  According to the production's website it is family-friendly but "some of the events in the play might be too intense or upsetting for younger children."  Thank you to the Spotlight for bringing so many enjoyable musicals to the local stage.

Radio Razzle Dazzle is the latest show at the Gaslight Melodrama.  If you haven't been to see a show there you are missing out on some of the best family entertainment in town.  I have many fond memories from when I was a kid & teen of my family going to the "Vaudeville Express" Melodrama out on China Grade Loop.  It was a special tradition.  Last year, thanks to the Gaslight, the tradition continued and we gathered again to laugh and eat popcorn.  There is something very special about fun that children, parents, and grandparents can all enjoy together.

Have a good one!

Up

Plays through February 2nd

Written by Bridget Carpenter
January 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27, February 1 & 2

Douglas, Alaska hosted the world premiere in May 2003. The down to earth drama is set in San Pedro, California. Walter Griffin once managed to float above the earth in a lawn chair suspended from weather balloons, achieving 15 minutes of fame and an offer from the Smithsonian for the chair. Sixteen years later, Walter is still tinkering with ideas for inventions that will help him become airborne again and has imaginary conversations with French wire walker Philippe Petit. Walter's 16-year-old son, Mikey, languishes, and his wife, Helen, dutifully supports the family as a postal worker. It is a fascinating and affecting look into a dysfunctional California family.

Saturday, January 26 @ 8PM

This fresh and exciting adaptation of Rodgers & Hammerstein's 1957 made-for-television musical (which starred Julie Andrews) brings adventure, romance, and a miraculous kingdom to the stage. As the timeless fairy tale unfolds,a pumpkin turns into a golden coach, mice turn into horses, a dove becomes a footman, and a famously shabby maid sees her wildest dreams come true. Even if you know the ending, this quintessential classic will still have you asking, "Will the slipper fit?"

Imaginary Friends

Plays through February 2nd

IMAGINARY FRIENDS
A Comedic Farce with Music
Written by Nora Ephron
Music by Marvin Hamlisch
Lyrics by Craig Carnelia
Directed by Kristina Saldaña

January 18, 19, 25, 26
& February 1 and 2 @ 8 PM

Suggested donation $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Novelist Mary McCarthy's notorious statement on the Dick Cavett Show calling playwright Lillian Hellman a liar exploded into one of the most famous of all literary feuds. This surreal farce portrays these two literary lionesses battling it out in hell. It chronicles a compelling story of two women shaped by their different but equally unsettled childhoods, their looks (one was a beauty, one was not) and the men in their lives while it brilliantly examines to great comic effect the concept of truth in fiction: Who can you believe? Interspersed throughout are witty songs that enable the ensemble to comment on the action.

Starring: Amy Hall, Kelly Sorrow, Jeremiah Heitman, Caroline Clark, Meg Dewing, Michael Pawloski, Jenni Saldaña and Ryan Watts

A Chorus Line

Spotlight Theatre is auditioning for the hit musical A Chorus Line, playing from April 18th through May 10th. We need Dancers, Singers, Actors ages 17 - 30 for 25 exciting roles

Who Should I Bring To Major League Improv?

Unlike most other forms of performance comedy, MLI is great for all ages. The audience of a typical MLI match contains everyone from kids to college students to parents and grandparents. Everyone has a good time and no one gets offended. If an performer steps beyond the boundaries of good taste, the "brown bag foul" (a brown paper sack will be placed over the offending players head) will be called to set things straight. If you think "clean" is boring, you owe it to yourself to check out Major League Improv. Its anything but boring!

Tickets for Major League Improv are $6 Students and $8 Adults at the door. You can save a buck by calling (661) 634-0692 and making reservations or visit us at 1622 19th Street in Downtown Bakersfield.

An article on Bakersfield.com this Tuesday was titled "Busy beaver damages trees."

http://www.bakersfield.com/...

The article states: Bakersfield's latest vandal will not be charged with destroying public property. Instead, city officials have opted for relocation.

UPDATE:  The Department of Fish & Game has decided to kill the beaver.

http://www.bakersfield.com/...

State wildlife officials have issued a permit to kill the rodent that's chewed down nine trees on the bike path near the Park at Riverwalk in the past few weeks.

The beaver has not yet been killed, officials said.

Officials with California Department of Fish and Game said they don't relocate beavers because the animal's nature is to control water and it could end up damming an irrigation canal or taking down trees elsewhere.

NO KIDDING!  So where are beavers supposed to live?

Did they ever think that maybe we (the public) like the beaver?

Maybe they should plant some more trees.

What assholes.
