opinions please: swedish or deep tissue??

I usually get my massages at my acupuncturist's office, but I love going to different spas around town, too. I want to know what you think is better: deep tissue or Swedish massage?

Personally, I usually have a deep tissue massage. It isn't really very relaxing, though. In fact, it's almost painful at times, but I am pain-free for at least a few days after the massage.

I already tried a hot stone massage this summer, which was amazing, but I haven't had a plain-old Swedish massage lately, and I've been considering it. What is your opinion? Is a Swedish massage worth the time and money (for the relaxation), or are deep tissue massages a better deal, since they really attack the knots and sore spots?

I've never been attracted to massages and regard them as frivilous. There are friends and relatives who differ and tell me if I tried it, I'd change my mind.

Not trying to plug a business but I have heard high praises of Bakersfield Bodyworks on G Street. $40 hourly or $25 by an unpaid student who needs the required hours (tips are appreciated). The staff in charge is licensed and professional. I'm sure they'd give you factual feedback.

I've never had a message and I'll probably never get one.  I have this "thing" about strangers touching me.

I just heard about a massage place that charges 14.99 (I think they said) for a half hour.  Two locations and I believe one is on Coffee or Calloway.  No appt..drop in.

I've never had a professional maasage either..nor a manicure, nor a pedicure.

After the boys died I got a gift for a massage, it was very relaxing. Did it "cure" me? No, but it wasn't a poke in the eye with a sharp stick either.

I would think it would hinge on the effect that you wanted which style one would choose.

At that price, I'm afraid they'd rub me the wrong way...

Thanks for the recommendation, catpaw. I'm not sure if I would trust a $15 massage, either, but it might be worth a try, at that price! Maybe that would be the time to have the relaxing Swedish massage, that way I can save my money for the deep tissue for pain relief!

notatroll, have you been to Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa? It's awesome! And, Lingtaowoo, I have never been to Japan. Europe is cheaper, so I never made it to Asia. Now I wish I would have been more adventurous!

My friend, Sirina, does all types of massages. Tell her Michele referred you and you'll get a good price/discount. Email me if you'd like more info.  I happen to like deep tissue when I've been really stressed but sometimes, that leaves me sore yet loose the next day!!
