A View from the East...
A view of Kern County issues and politics viewed from Eastern Kern County, by a man with a spicy mix of conservative and liberal views that are certain to piss off some people, confuse others, and spark some interesting discussion.

A question for the moderates in Kern County

Bill Richardson, Democrat, Governor of New Mexico, announced he will file his papers to seek the Democratic nomination for President.

Full Story:  http://www.unionleader.com/...

Although I need to get to know more about him, I really like what I see so far.  He's against the war in Iraq, he's against illegal immigration, and he's against gun control, and he supports drastic changes to our energy policy that would get us off fossil fuels once and for all.  Have we finally found a suitable candidate?

I'm curious, for those of you who are moderates, what are your thoughts about Bill Richardson?  What do you like and dislike about him?

I like his diverse life goat. He's been around the block. I also am pretty closely aligned with his politics. I think the only thing that might be a detriment to him is his past ownership in a gambling company. Not that it bothers me. With a woman, and a black running already, a man with a hispanic background rounds out the contenders. I hope America is ready for some minority leadership. We will have come a long way when gender and race are not only not a consideration, but also not a consideration by those who like the candidate, but don't think they are electable based on other people's bias'.

He did a very good job in Darfur--and quite possibly is the most qualified candidate.  I'd prefer to see him in the VP slot, but I could easily cast a ballot for him.  (My dream team is Edwards/Clark, but then I'm not a real "moderate."

Looks like *SOMEBODY* is afraid of Richardson, though--they're already revving up the RWNM about supposedly questionable personal behavior.  As someone observed, "that didn't take long..."

I really Like Richardson for all of the reasons listed above.  Like RF, he works in my mind in a VP spot.  Dream ticket is Edwards/Richardson.  I'm not a moderate, but as public opinion shifts, I'm becoming more moderate every day.

Did you honestly think it WOULD take long?  There's not a possible candidate out there on either side that won't have their personal life scrutinized..you guys know that.

That's why I'd never run for office Nanc. The liberals would find out at age 9 I shot a bird with a BB gun, then the conservatives would find out I cried after I did it! So I'd be a murderer to the left, a sissy to the right, and undecisive to the moderates! LOL

If it was a crow, it wasn't a wasted BB.

I'm not sure if I'm a moderate, that's why I'm a moderate. Huh?

Nancy, that's why Hillary may actually stand a chance. Do you think there's anything the RNC hasn't used against her already?
