World's 3rd Richest Man Says Taxes on the Rich Are Too Low

With only one further comment:

Buffett blasts system that lets him pay less tax than secretary

http://business.timesonline...

"Warren Buffett, the third-richest man in the world, has criticised the US tax system for allowing him to pay a lower rate than his secretary and his cleaner.

Speaking at a $4,600-a-seat fundraiser in New York for Senator Hillary Clinton, Mr Buffett, who is worth an estimated $52 billion (£26 billion), said: “The 400 of us [here] pay a lower part of our income in taxes than our receptionists do, or our cleaning ladies, for that matter. If you’re in the luckiest 1 per cent of humanity, you owe it to the rest of humanity to think about the other 99 per cent.” "

Go ahead.  Lynch the third richest man for having a conscience, that evil man...

Go ahead.  Tell me that Warren Buffett is a commie.

Maybe he wants to buy his way into heaven, but he definitely ain't no commie!

People still think that the rich pay an exorbinant amount of taxes by virtue of the tax rate. But they don't take into consideration that these same people can afford the best tax lawyers, and are able to deduct everything under the sun. They deduct everything from their power lunch, to their Mercedes payment, to their corporate jet lease.

I am for a much more simplified progressive tax. One that, because the rich have more disposable income, gets more out of them, and less out of the poor, yet does not go too far in penalizing someone for simply being a successful capitalist. Contrary to what many conservatives might believe, the poor aren't all just lazy do nothings. Not every great American has been spawned from the rich. It is difficult to educate a child when you're doing your best just to put food on the table. Less burden on the poor is an investment in talent. If the trend of a disappearing middle class continues, the "us versus them" scenario will occur, and we all know what that leads to.

For whatever reasons he might have, Buffet is to be commended for giving back to his bretheren.

Love the new headline!! I just love this guy! Growing up I was "rich"~ for the time, and Bakersfield(and as it turned out,not quite as true as Mom & Dad thought)...they none the less impressed upon us the give back part .."to whom much is given.." That and my inner empathy still makes me give to those less fortunate than myself, even now at the poverty line.

Thanks; the new banner is likewise a creation of mine -- it began life as a bumper sticker and I decided to create a version for this blog.

I would agree with Mr. Buffett..... if the money wasn't being shuttled off to the military-industrial complex faster than you could burn it in an industrial incinerator.

Hell, I'd actually prefer the money be used that way, instead of buying bullets and bombs......
