The Week that America Woke Up to the Economic Crisis
Monday, July 21, 2008The Week that America Woke Up to the Economic Crisis
georgewashington2.blogspot.com/2008/07/week-that- america-woke-up-to-economic.html
Last week, for the first time, the average American woke up to the fact that our economy is in trouble. And everyone you're talking with is saying the same thing, right? (That's probably why you're reading this . . . you already know its true from your own experience). As Reuters puts it: "The nightmare scenario for U.S. economic authorities is here: confidence in their ability to rescue the country from a housing-led financial panic is now at its lowest level since the crisis began. Last week was a huge turning point, when the average American could no longer be tricked by the fast-talking ponzi scheme salesmen. Last week was the week that America woke up to the economic crisis we've been facing for a long time.
. Once they get that, the pressure to get us out of Iraq will become very strong. Hopefully, the economic crash will help wake people up in other areas as well. 1 comments from 1 users

I think that most people are going to have a major reality check that we are victims of our own lifestyle. We are the land of the free, and feel like we are owed all the riches in life. So we overspend, we waste, we basically get our butts into trouble and then expect the government to bale us all out. The past ten years of wasteful energy use, the lack of exploration in our own land, and bad luck has led to gas prices making the average american budget margin small if not gone. The housing boom, while great for many is turning out to be one of the biggest snafu's in American history. While I am a firm believer that every american should be able to own a piece of this country, there are just some people that can't afford it. And they got themselves in way over thier heads. And now government has to step in and save them, when the people that could afford the homes, are now sitting in homes that are not worth what they paid. Where is the help for these people? There isn't any. So the people that are able to struggle to make thier huge house payments and get by, just stop spending money on other things, because they are putting money into a losing cause. It's simple really, when everyday things cost way too much, then the little extra parts of our lives get put on hold. It takes all of us to keep america's economy going, but when no one can afford anything, it is impossible to do. I agree that the war in Iraq has become a huge financial drain on our country. I had a friend say the other day, "Gas will go down when the war is over." Oh great, so we just have to wait two more years? Five more? The answer is really we have to be better at conserving energy, using what we have, and being more resposible for our economic choices. It's really hard to feel sorry for someone who has a gas guzzleing truck or suv when they don't really have too. I feel more sorry for the person making the minium wage and having to feed kids and drive to work.
