BTW - Arnold's father was not a member of the SS - he was a member of the Feldgendarmerie - Germany's form of Military Police, established way before Hitler was even born (though he was a member of the Nazi party, which doesn't incriminate him on anything, since it'd be no different than if you were a member of the Republicans or Democrats) - in case you were wondering.

From the evidence I have gathered about Arnold's Nazi ties, I would say it's a Nazi deaths head belt buckle or something similar. It's up to the individual to decide. I am not always correct 100% of the time. (no one is). I would say my research is about 95 % accurate. Even if I were 10% right, we would still be in deep crap.

 Based upon the reality that Nazi Germany was one of my main focal points in my studies, I will tell you with utmost honesty that you are wrong as it regards to the belt buckle that Arnold wore.  It is not a death's head emblem.  It's actually very simple - look at the crossbones.. on a real death's head, they are at a lower angle and rest on top of each other.  On Arnold's belt, they are at, or just about at 90 degree angles.  There are many different uses for the skull and crossbones - it's been used by both British and American military units, for example.  In fact, currently, there are 4 Recon batallions in the USMC that use some form of the skull and cross bones in their ensignia.

There is absolutely no credible evidence that Kurt Waldheim was a Nazi.  His name never appears on any party roles or documents.  He was an officer in the German Army - so were many people who were not members of the party.  This is not to say that Waldheim was a saint - but if you're going to make an argument, at the very least get your facts straight.

There are literally hundreds of thousands, if not millions of children spawned from Nazi party members, and I would challenge you to go to Germany, hunt them down and ask them some questions for yourself.  Heck - talk to people here in the state's with ancestry that can trace itself to the Nazi party - do you think they're skin-heads projecting a neo-Nazi agenda?  Nope.  

To attack the man for admiring Hitler is ludicris as well.  You can admire someone for certain traits, whereas despise them for others.  I agree with Arnold - Hitler did come from virtually nothing, with no real skill as a soldier in WWI (and no real respect either.. until he was almost killed) to become the most influential person of his time (though not in a good way).  He was an amazing public speaker and propagandist who, like a chameleon, tailored his style depending on the audience.  Many of these traits are still studied today.  Nazi videos, such as "Triumph of the Will," are still considered to be the best forms of state-sponsored propaganda in existence.

For me to say all these things (many which Arnold also said) does not make me a supporter of Nazi ideology - it makes me someone who is intrigued by such an enigmatic figure - so much so that I wanted to study that era more than most.  In contrast, I believe Hitler was evil, and I still cannot get over how any human being could so easily throw away the lives of millions, discarding them as you would a used paper towel. 

Here's what I think - Arnold is a motorcycle enthusiast, and much biker attire tends to sport skulls, crossbones and the like.  He was trying to look cool.  That is all.

Find me one historian of Nazi Germany that would say otherwise.

Being born in Barstow, California and now many years transplanted into Asia, I have to exert my desert penchant for Huh? Seeing my buckle on the cover of Time seemed timely...then I got a call from LA to check out Google and the Guv's waistwear and comment thereof.

The Buckle : Its a hand constructed sterling silver buckle, the skull itself also hand carved from a billet of Damascus steel. Its probably about the 4th one in a series of 10 that I made between 2005 and 2006. The little bits on the border are Fleur de Lis....(thats French, oh no)....not German eagles! I am fairly sure that the 4 corner stones are uncut natural diamond crystals. I used those on only one of the series. This one was purchased at Falconhead this past spring, in Brentwood, California.

Taking issue with What a public personality purports to convey with symbolic regalia, be it suits ties tattoos or tits, its an age old tradition that we the people, for the people have a inalienable right to engage in. Beats me. I think he mostly just really dug the buckle...thats at least for sure. He is known to have very cool bikes.

And I can tell you for certain the basis of its design and the symbol of the skull have ZERO, ZIP, NADA, NOL, ZILCH to do with WW2. Goodness. I am making a set of cufflinks to match the buckle and sending them to the Guv, mostly cause I LOVE The Terminator pics, and the fantastic art that went into creating the skeletal frame, and of course the skull.

I wish the best of luck to the Guv, I applaud his choice in buckles, I rail against the intolerant and I would like to see a skull on the waist neck or finger of every public persona, be they white black brown male asian female german or martian.

I, for one, think you are usually half-right. Much of our left-right politics is a sham and the real powers that be are behind the scenes, pulling strings we don't see and don't fathom. (See my post on Iran, for example). But this off-the-wall stuff really dilutes the message.
