Rev. Wright and Bill Moyers on PBS 4-25-08
The media did its usual venial-non-reporting with those Wright sound bites ["damn America." ] Enough with the words. Only money gets America's attention, and I'm voting for Wright with my wallet. Go to his church's website https://www.tucc.org/home.htm, look around, and if you believe in what he really says, then translate it into a few bucks. 27 comments from 8 users

It is no coincidence that Rev. Wright gave his first interview to Bill Moyers. Moyers is a UCC member too. Unfortunately, they are both so far to the left of mainstream America, they don't even realize how much the interview hurt Barack Hussein(who is a Christian, by the way) Obama. posted by

Did you watch the interview? I did. How did it hurt anyone? By showing a man who for three decades has tried to improve his community by feeding the poor, tutoring students in bad schools, give people a place to worship God...Do you believe it was bad because Hannity and Limbaugh told you that? posted by

Improved his community? More like improved his wallet and retire to a million dollar 10,000 sqare foot home. "Rev. Jeremiah Wright is retiring in luxury — with all the trappings of the white "middleclassness" he warns his flock to avoid. Wright is forsaking South Side Chicago and the black ghetto for a gated golf club community in Tinley Park, an affluent suburb."

Maybe Wright married his mistress for her money. Oh, wait, that was John Sidney (who's not really a Baptist) McCain III. My bad. posted by

I don't listen to Hannity. The link I provided was from Invester's Business Daily. If there is a connection between the two that you know about, let's hear it. Obviously you must be listening to him to know who's connected to him and who's "parroting" him. Or perhaps, stamping down dissenting views by associating those people with "unsavory" radio show hosts is all you've got since that one hour interview left you with absolutely nothing to use. posted by

I'm sure the right-wing-biased media in this country will be badgering McCain about Hagee any day now. And about McCain's recent assertion that he opposes anti-terrorism. posted by

A man who is separated and getting divorced and has the opportunity to marry a woman who has beauty, money, and a beer distributorship and *DOESN'T*, would not be qualified to be President. posted by

I'm still waiting for someone to tell me what was said in the interview by Rev "God Damn America" that was good. Was there nothing good for the left that was said in that interview? Oh, I think he did say that Al-Barack "had" to condemn Wright's comments because of politics. Which is pretty much saying, "Ol' Barack still believes everything I preach, he just had to say he doesn't to get some votes." posted by

folks can say what they will about wright personally, and they will, for this (on paper, for now) is still a "free" country... his idea that an american ideology combining corporate media, disinformation, and ignorance-based fear leads to the partial, profit-based telling of history/news by its "winners" was spot on. implicit in the "corporate media" part is erosion of the national attention span, making us vulnerable to see sound bites bereft of context and believe them to be the whole "truth." intellectual argument, which can't be contained in a sound bite, can't be comprehended when we're indoctrinated to believe and only be able to mentally tolerate the 30-second pitch. i was awakened, too, by wright's separation of government and god. for while some of his broadcasted sermons troubled, angered, and saddened me (because, in context, they sounded true and meant that our government has "sinned"), they were the words of a person of emphatic and scholarly biblical-based vision, whose philosophy of why "evil" occurs sounded consistent. when "god's law" is violated, wright believes, people will suffer - no matter their political or nationalistic affiliation. supposedly our democracy does not "prefer one religion to another" (establishment clause). however, as many know, we've lived in an increasingly christianist-theocratic government these past 8 years. bush wrongs us all and violates his post as our political leader when he proclaims to answer to "a higher faith." as wright said of obama, "he is a politician, and i am a preacher.": the two are wholly separate roles. "christians" are supposed to uphold "the word of god" -- help the poor, feed the hungry, protect the innocent -- not execute violence in "His name." bush is no "true christian"; he is worse than a mere hypocrite -- a terrorist who blasphemes his "father's" word with policies that cause murder and misery. because i live in the u.s., for now i can write these words. i love this country, but agree with the wrights and moyers of this world that we have been "led astray," with tragic and shameful consequences. there's a lot more that i could comment on about last night's show -- the most worthy activist mission that promotes self-respect, education, multi-culturalism, emboldening each person to go out and help others; the tidy way wright explained hermeneutics; his discussion of "liberation theology"; his reminder that dr. king was shunned when he began to talk of not just civil, but human rights... go to www.pbs.org to see it for yourself. don't listen to knee-jerk ranting and raving, the disinformation, anger, and fear of the soundbiters. each of us should be awake to resisting the 30 second sell and instead work to educate ourselves... then spread "the message" to others. posted by

Graduating from the US Naval Academy is an accomplishment for *EVERY* graduate. But, I think you already knew that since you refered to it as a "trade school". Just for the record RF, what ranking among the graduates would be the cut off for qualified Presidential candidates? posted by

Dril, that may be your problem--you're still waiting for someone to tell you how you should think in a 30-second sound bite. I believe that entire sermon--together with the "God Damn America" segway--is available online in transcript or video. . For the record, I have not seen the Moyers interview and don't plan to. The people trumpeting the Wright sound-bites for weeks tell me all I need to know; they were wrong on Iraq, Bush, the economy, and, well, everything else too. You could govern this country as the nation's best president in a hundred years by asking them what to do, and then doing the opposite. I expect President Obama has a strategy something like that in mind. posted by

An accomplishment roughly on a par with graduating from a very, very advanced high school, dril. . Let's be generous and say "the top 90 percent." Which would leave out George Armstrong Custer and Edgar Allan Poe, (West Point, I know) but I think we can agree neither would've been a good President. posted by

Well, we do know for a fact that a man can graduate 59th in his class at the Naval Academy and become the single worst President this country ever had.

It was a great show, from "liberal"Moyers. But there you are labels, and as was excellently said, a 30 second sound bite. Now that we are properly divided up into 'camps" watch our country continue to decline. Seriously, concentrate on today, quit trying to "one -up" the Opposition(that would be best used on our real enemies) and try to see the other "side's" reasoning~that goes for all. posted by

A totally worthless softball interview from a fellow congregant. The "30 second soundbite" defense falls on its face when he doesn't own up to what he said in his 9/11 sermon that the US got its comeuppance and the "chickens have coooommme hooooomme to rooooost." He goes on to claim his "God damn America" sermon was a freedom of speech issue and that the "corporate owned media" were crucifying him for it. Comparing his problems to the suffering of Christ. Give me a break. The interview was great in that it kept this hate filled, racist, millionare, "man of the cloth", and spritual mentor of 20 years to Barack Obama in the news.

And unfortunately Drilnlift, this is what we will be saddled with for the next 4 years if the left wing alphabet press (NPR, ABC, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, ETC.) have anything to say about it. Pant loads all. A politically correct, do nothing, know-nothing country of solely ethnically politically correct airheads who are afraid, more than anything else (like actually thinking for themselves and reacting honestly therefrom), to do anything but be spoon fed rationalizations and thus put the Obamanation into office. So just stop it Drilnlift, you are thinking for yourself. That cannot be tolerated! posted by

Why is it so quiet after the Moyers-Wright interveiw?
I expected a roaring debate in the political blogosphere this morning, and on cable news after the Friday night Bill Moyers interview with Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Instead, there's eerie quiet. The most I could find was this post on Protein Wisdom saying that Moyers didn't play hardball with Wright. It's true, he didn't. Instead he did what I wish more journalists would, he interviewed him in a way that helped us get to know the person. He let him speak his piece, so we could listen. There's so much to admire about Rev. Wright, but first, the shame of the professional media, who hounded not only Wright, but members of his congregation, including a woman in a hospice, to try to uncover more dirt about Wright and thereby embarrass Barack Obama. Wright isn't running for office, he points out, it isn't his job to get our vote, it's his job to help his congregation, to help them understand the world they live in, to help them do better in that world, and to prepare them for what they believe comes in the afterlife. I think the silence comes from the fact that there still is some humanity in the press and in the blogosphere, and those who watched Moyers and really listened to Wright, realized that he's not a liability to Obama, he's an asset. At least some of the polish, the quiet confidence, self-respect, intelligence and grace we see in Obama must have rubbed off this man. Watching Wright gave me pride in being an American, and shame at the same time, for coming from a country so willing to objectify and villify this person before checking out whether the characterization was accurate. Even the supposedly courageous and thorough NY Times calls his oratory "racist" in an editorial in today's paper. Based on what? I've watched the sermons that have been excerpted; if these are racist, then every other preacher in the US is racist too. http://www.huffingtonpost.c...
