Ok, so I am curious what the single people of Bakersfield think of the dating scene here. Married people can jump in, too, if you have experience as a single person in Bako or just have some insight. So, here are my questions: What do you think of the dating scene here? If you are a transplant (basically came from somewhere else and moved here), do you think it is harder to date here? What are the pros of dating here and what are the cons? Also, getting away from the Bakersfield part of it, do you think meeting people to date has changed dramatically over the years, whether by means or the way you approach someone? These are really just curiosity questions based on things I have heard and from living here for 4 years. I wanted to see what other people thought about it. Well, it is actually going to be called "Hole in the Wall" but if you saw either of my previous posts that showed the Human Tetris game that is in Japan, see it here, it is so funny! I will be watching, I am in need of a good laugh! It premieres this Thursday on Fox at 8 pm! Will you be watching? Also, have any of you seen Banzuki? It is another Japanese show that has them do some crazy stunts! I watched some this weekend because it happened to be on and it was crazy what they make them do!
September is generally the month that TV shows come back in full force. Sometimes I think my DVR is going to overload from all of the shows that are taped but you gotta love the DVR this month for when you are too busy to watch a show. There are many new shows starting and new seasons starting for the old shows. My list for the ones I can't wait to start are: The Ex List -A new scripted series where a lady finds out one of her old boyfriends is the "one" and tries to figure out who it is, Desperate Housewives, Brothers & Sisters, Prison Break (which just started-had to add it), Samantha Who, The Office and My Own Worst Enemy- new show with Christian Slater. Which ones are you waiting to start? Come out for a huge Yard Sale and Bake Sale on Sunday 9/7, 7 am until 12 pm! It will be at Skateland, 415 Ming Ave., Bakersfield, across from the Fairgrounds. All proceeds go to Johnny Javier Solorio's family to help with his 3-month old baby and for funeral expenses. For more information on Johnny, click here. This event is planned and hosted by the Bako Boyz, SinCal Ryderz and EB Ryders. So, I was listening to 95.3 KLLY on my way to work this morning and they said that there is a Chevron near Mesa Marin that will be having gas for $1.56 for some promotion...tomorrow, I think. They said it wasn't a joke but I haven't been able to find it anywhere so I am not sure. Does anyone know anything about it?
--Kari This may sound funny to some of you but I vowed to myself 4 weeks ago that I would only allow myself to have Starbucks on the weekends. Why did I do that? Well, I have been going everyday for, at least, the last two years. It is so bad that all the Starbucks employees know me and one time, one of them even said "Oh, I haven't seen you in a while. I thought something happened to you." haha.......Now that tells you when you have a problem. It is mostly for money reasons that I stopped and it doesn't help that Starbucks has gone up in price 3 times in the last year. So, what I would get was almost $4. Since the price of everything is going up, I need the money and since I have the situation with my dogs that I recently blogged about (which is the majority of the reason I am doing it!), in the last 4 weeks, I have only had 2! I really don't spend alot of money on anything and that has been one of my few vices so it was a big deal to me! I figured if I told myself I couldn't have it at all, then I would crave it more so I just have been telling myself, I can have 1 a week and only on the weekends but I haven't even had that! I had a friend tell me that it I wouldn't even think about it in a week of not having it and I told her no way! I was right....I think about it a couple times a day now but in the beginning for at least 2 weeks, it was constant. I will have saved $94 as of this weekend! This may sound crazy to some of you! haha.....But I am proud of myself! My other addiction is Snapple and there is no way I am giving that up yet! Am I the only one or do any of you have any similar addictions whether it be drinks or food or anything? My situation is fairly unique but I am sure some people have gone through similar problems with their dogs but probably not two of them at once. I have three dogs, all who are my babies, two of them, Lulu and Quaid, were adopted and one, Peanut, was given to me. When I adopted Quaid and Lulu over five years ago, I was told that they were both two years old but when I took them to the vet they told me that ,at least, Quaid was almost seven years old and Lulu was not even close to two either. I was shocked and not thrilled but I loved them anyway. When I adopted them, I was told they were found together roaming the streets and needed to be adopted together, they definitely are attached to eachother and have been since day one. Both mutts-one part pug, part chihuahua and one part pug, part beagle. So related? Likely by mom or dad whichever was the pug. About eight months ago, I took Quaid to the vet for a growth that was on her leg and it ended up being cancer-mast cell tumor. If you don't know anything about mast cell tumors-They can change in size daily and even disappear, they affect the dogs allergies and can ulcerate their stomach, can affect different organs in their bodies, etc. She needed surgery so I had them do it and they removed it. The vet said that it was a stage 1 cancer, which had the best diagnosis out of three options, had the best prognosis and could be an isolated incident but to still check Quaid to see if she has any more. Within a month, there was another one. This time on her stomach and a much larger incision when they gave her surgery the second time. They went in a third time because she didn't have clean lines on the second surgery and had to fix that, which is normal because it can be hard to tell where cancer cells stop exactly and where the good cells begin. It was the same stage 1 cancer. I ask the vet what I should do. I don't want to put my dog through this monthly, I don't care about the money whether I have it or not, I just want her to have the best life and not be in pain. She said the surgeries are not that bad to do-they are generally on the surface not internal and that the anesthesia is fairly safe for them as long as it isn't an all the time thing. She said once or twice or so a year is fine. So, in the meantime, I find a lump on Lulu. I think oh, it is a bacterial infection or a spider bite or anything else because there is NO way I have two dogs with cancer especially at the same time. It is cancer and the same kind. I am in shock at this point because I can't even believe it. The vet says that she has never heard of someone having two dogs at the same time with cancer and she says the only thing she can think of is that they have to be related and it must be hereditary. The vet feels really bad for me and is continually apologizing maybe because I looked like I was about to fall apart and that was not far from the truth. I have them do surgery on Lulu and it is the same stage 1 cancer and everything. Since then, I have been checking them everyday and fast forward to now. I take Quaid to the vet last week because I found one on her and it is cancer. She has surgery on Friday, her fourth in eight months. This week, I take Lulu again because now she has two very apparent ones that I am sure are cancer, too. It is bad enough to have two dogs with cancer but to have them both have surgery at once is another thing. I want to do what is best for them and not what is best for me. I have been agonizing over this and what to do because this seems never ending. They both act fine when they are going through this but where does it stop? Like I said, I will spend whatever amount of money no matter the debt that it brings because I don't have it if it will prolong their lives and not make me lose them both at once but what is fair to them? When do you decide that enough is enough? My vet doesn't have the answer, she says all she can say is to remove them because not removing them is inevitably extremely painful and see what happens. I just am devastated that I have no help in this choice of what to do for them and that there is no definitive answer.
There is this new show, of course a reality show, called The Pick-up Artist on VH1 at 9:00 pm on Monday nights that I just get a kick out of. There is this guy named "Mystery", who is a former nerd himself, (not too fond of that name) that is a true master at picking up women. He has two sidekicks, also formerly not having any game, that are just as good and they go around the country teaching how to be a master pickup artist to men.
The show takes 8 men including one man, who is the 45 year old virgin and a bunch of other younger guys, who also are either virgins or have never had a girlfriend and more, having them compete for the title "Master Pick-up Artist". The winner will get $50,000 and tour with Mystery and his wingmen around the country teaching people the art of picking up women. Believe it or not, when Mystery and his wingmen get started, the women go crazy and I can't say that these guys are models or anything. It is crazy to see them in action. If you haven't seen it, check it out. If you have, what do you think? Are you a "Master Pick-up Artist" or do you need some help?
I just read this story about an Arkansas couple that just welcomed their 17th child, which makes it their 7th daughter. I have seen them on TV before. That is crazy! Their oldest is only 19! Here is the article: www.bakersfield.com/917/story/204459.html
Ok, so right now, I don't have kids. I hope to one day but if someone that I was dating told me they wanted to have 17 kids, I would say "Good Luck!" and run the other way! HAHA. I have a nephew that is 3 and he alone is a full time job. I could not imagine having 10 around the same age. I love kids but I also like my sanity! Could you imagine what you would have to make to take care of 17 kids? Sheesh!
So, I figured since there are some new shows on and I love TV, I would break down a few of the new shows that I have watched recently. I truly like reality tv but watch all different kinds of shows including Prison Break, The Office, Brothers & Sisters, etc.
New Shows: Scott Baio: 45 and Single-Suprisingly, I actually thought this was very good. There were times that were laugh out loud funny and others that actually made you feel for him. Basically, the show is about the fact that Scott is still single after having dated and cheated on every girlfriend including Heather Locklear, Pamela Anderson, Denise Richards, Nicolette Sheridan, his Happy Days co-star, Erin Moran and the list goes on and on! Scott is now with a lady named Renee and he wants to settle down but doesn't know how to without having the same thing happen again. The show has him working with a life coach, visiting ex-girlfriends, staying celibate, not seeing Renee for 8 weeks and more. Just for Laughs-Some of the stunts that they did were funny but I hate the canned laughter. I gave this show a shot because I loved Candid Camera and some of those other shows similar to this but it makes it hard to sit through the show because all you hear is this canned laughter in the background. The Singing Bee-I like this show for many reasons. I love music and am very good at lyrics, to me, it makes the song. My favorite part is watching people mess up the words and what they actually think is said in a song is usually hilarious. Then there are songs where you will sit there and think everyone knows the words but they don't. Here is just a few for now. --Kari |
