Formula One Will Not Return In 2008 To Indianapolis Motor Speedway
Any formula one fans?

Posted: July 12, 2007
The United States Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will not be on the 2008 Formula One schedule after eight consecutive annual events since 2000.

After recent meetings, Indianapolis Motor Speedway CEO Tony George and Formula One Management Ltd. CEO Bernie Ecclestone mutually agreed to not schedule Formula One racing in 2008 at Indianapolis.

------------------------------------------------- ------------------

For those that know formula 1, it means that we most likely will not have a formula 1 race in the United States next year.

It's sad to see another sport that is popular around the world but weak in the here in the states.

Too bad. That was always a fun race to watch. Was there any reason given for the change?

Most likely Bernie wanted more money than what George was willing to fork out.  I probably make some race fans mad by saying this but I don't think the F1 track at Indy was all that great.  Yes, Indy has a rich history but not F1.  The infield track just lack the personality of the other tracks on the F1 schedule.  Maybe one of these days, F1 will be back at Watkins Glen or maybe even at Laguna.  Or even bring the street circuits back.

Laguna Seca is an awesome track. I've been to both auto and motorcycle races there. I even rode a bicycle around the track once.

I've never been to Laguna Seca personally, but I've raced around it plenty in Gran Turismo (loves me some GT-40 action on that track!). One of these days, I really need to go up there for the Historic Races. I've seen a few Formula 1 cars tear-ass around it, and I'd love to see a full F-1 race on that track. Both there, and Seabring.

I've never been to Laguna as well (came close by driving past it going to Pebble Beach) but loved racing it in Gran Turismo.  Watching F1 cars going through the corkscrew will be something.  Or just being able see and hear F1 car going around the track with their V8's running up to 19K RPM.  As you can tell, I never been close to a F1 car but would love to see and hear one in person.

Thankfully the high-priced game of "follow the leader" won't return to Indy. The folks in Indy are lighting up the Indianapolis Star message boards saying "Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Bernie"

yes, the cork screw must be exciting in an formula 1 car. Toyota F1 came and broke the lap record this past year as a PR stunt since they can't do well in races.    1:07:587 averaging 119.206 mph.     Thats a rush!

I liked the USGP because it allowed more passing with the long straight and with the low downforce they made bigger mistakes in the infield.

I just hoping for another grand prix in the united states.

Gran Tourismo...whata game. I too am a big fan of the GT-40. I think it's the fastest car in the game.

I haven't seen an F-1 race either, but I've been to the San Jose grand prix which is a Champ Car race. They are insanely loud, even with earplugs. What amazed me is that there were actually people walking around without them. Seriously, you could feel it in your chest and stomach big time. We spent a lot of time near this one corner that most of the drivers were locking up their wheels to slow down enough. At least 3 cars wrecked on that corner. It was cool.

Pete, the F-1 cars were pretty fast, as was the two-engine Suzuki (+1400hp FTW). But of the non-F-1 cars, the GT-40 was right up there near if not at the top. Plus, it had one of the sweetest engine sounds of any car (except perhaps the Cobra).

I went to the Long Beach Grand Prix one year (while I was a student there). Great fun to watch all of the races (didn't want to go for the "big" race on Sunday, but went Friday and Saturaday for the others). You're right, insanely loud. But they came and went so fast I didn't need plugs, and there weren't 35 at a time (only qualifying a few at a time), so it didn't last too long.

I only went to the Sat time trials too (less people). I was in Long Beach the week before the race, and it seems like you're quite a bit further away from the track than in SJ. There were parts of the very narrow track where they were so close you could probably spit on the cars. It seemed closer than it should be, but it wasn't on an area where anybody would lose control.

Geez, I didn't know about the 2 engine Suzuki. I haven't played that game in years.

Rally car. Designed and built for the Pike's Peak race. From what I remember: 2 engines(?hazy recollection of this, but I can't verify), +1400hp(-in-game, actual hp:985), 1800lb curb weight, and 50-50 weight distribution...
