Taft church foreclosed

Members of the United Pentecostal Church of Taft have lost their church to foreclosure, though the pastor hopes they can find a way to buy it back.

The Rev. Leo J. Fisher says the painful experience is one he hopes all pastors take to heart -- though the congregation is filled with good men and women, church leaders need to hire professionals when taking out loans or buying land.

Fisher says he plans to meet at the old site for the forseeable future, though the property now belongs to the lender.

Have others stepped in to offer the group a meeting place if they lose the church for good? Did other churches overextend themselves during the bubble?

It is the "Curse of The Brass Rail".  It will take more than the good intentions of a loyal congregation to rid the former home of one of the most evil, vile, and raucous bars in Taft's history of its demons.  The building probably should be burned to the ground and the top 15 feet of soil should be hauled off to a hazardous waste disposal site. Then a concrete cap should be poured over the entire lot.

I'm surprised that God would allow his congregation to make unwise real estate gambles.  If they'd only taken the money to Vegas and asked God which number on the roulette wheel, I'm sure he would have told them.

My advice to them would be to pray about this, but harder than last time. That's what the problem was, you know; they didn't pray hard enough!

Do you have to hire an attorney to write a check that will cash? What happened to the extra 125,000 that was borrowed?

I hear a lot of excuses, but no acountability!

Perhaps the fine people of Taft and Bakersfield, California should take a look into the "brains" behind the deal. Because, as anyone who knew anything about it, would tell you... it wasn't Rev. Leo Fisher's idea to even purchase the old rest home. Perhaps before pointing fingers and making snide comments and maybe even before writing articles, the facts should be straight. Yes, the pastor took bad advice, but it was under pressure of said "brains" of the operation.

Hey, My hostile peeps! Im one of the brains behind this deal. I thought it was a great deal at 375k for 14,000sqft and 3 and half acres of land. The building had a previous appraisal for 1.2million dollars. In buisness and in life we win and we lose but it all works together for the Good to them that love him.  The church is not brick or plaster the church is a mystical body of people and if you lost the church when you lost a building you  don't get it. I encourage everyone to count your cost before jumping into something but don't ever be afraid to have a vision or a dream. Don't be scared to take a loss in trying to achieve your goals in life.  The lender is in good spirit .Im working with him to make his money back on this deal. Im also on good terms with the church and am working to help them get there building back. I don't regret helping get this building and would do it again. Im blessed toI have friends to be able to finance dreams and visions. Don't be scared to take a chance if it don't work try it again.  The moral of the lesson  is DONT TRIP? JESUS LOVES YOU! And the prophetess said in the bible "if at first you dont suceed dust yourself off and try again, "You can dust it off and try again" --Prophetess "Destinys child=)"

Shalom--Peace--CHILL -- Sincerely, TJ

I do know the facts. Fact 125,000 is not accounted for and was  not used to inprove the property. The property looks like a junk yard.  Fact the lender believed, someone was going to pay the payment. Fact Leo Fisher did not put his name on the contract, he hung his Dad and two other board members out to dry and did not let them know he was not making payments. Fact after "The Brains" got him a great deal, he (Leo Fisher) did not follow the plan, and  disreguarded , anything that was told to him. Most of the church members found out about their church building getting foreclosed from this article. Fact check this out! The A street property has a lien on it, guess what ,another contract signed in faith by the board members,

that no one wants to be held accountable for!!! Lets teach honesty "Whats in Your Pulpit?"
