How do you get to the airport?
Airport Bus Bakersfield recently scaled back its trips to LAX from seven daily to five. The company said it was the only way to avoid raising ticket prices ($54 round-trip) amid soaring gas prices. How do you get to the airport when you travel? Which airport do you use, and where do you park? Would you be willing to pay more for transportation to avoid earlier departures and later returns, or do you have more time than money? --Courtenay Edelhart 4 comments from 4 users

I try to use BFL when I can, and it's fine for single travel. The usually higher fares don't work for multi-party travel, though. It's frequently cheaper for four of us to drive a car to Burbank and fly out of there than it is to fly out of here, fuel and parking included. It's a wash for one person, frequently. But two or more, the savings can be substantial. Bakersfield hates it, but the airlines charge a pile of money for most fares out of here. I've used LAX, Ontario, Burbank and Orange County, at different times, based on fares. Usually drive down and park at a hotel lot near LAX, but use the Burbank and Ontario lots. Orange County's parking fees have gotten mighty high, though. I've also, occasionally, rented a car for drop off at the airport and pick one up to drive back. I almost never take the airport bus because of the schedule. The fare is good, though, even at $54. May not have much left in the way of options if more airline flights keep dropping out of here. posted by

The Airporter to LAX is scheduled completely wrong and with the ever growing lines and ever slower check ins and security it`s a complete farce, but nice if it does work out correct,, but rare posted by

I usually take the Airport Bus to LAX. I was kind of bummed to see they had cut down on their times. There's been a few times when I've had to sit in the terminal for many, many hours -- overnight when I went home for Christmas -- because the bus times didn't fit with my itinerary. But it beats driving yourself and paying for parking. Maybe since BFL keeps losing flights, which means there will be more demand for LAX, Airport Bus will bring back more times. posted by

If you can't fly out of BFL, drive to the Fly Away Bus in Van Nuys. Lots of parking, buses every few minutes to and from LAX. That way you avoid the worst part of the 405. Get off at Sherman Way, quick left, then right on Sherman to Woodley, right on Woodley to Saticoy. It's easy. http://www.lawa.org/VNY/fly... Hope this helps.
