More dish about Dish Network
Hi again. I spoke with a communications guy at Dish Network's Colorado office about CEO Charlie Ergen's appearance tonight (Monday, Dec. 22) on local CBS and Fox affiliates. Loyal readers will recall my earlier confusion about this "talk to the people" session when Dish subscribers can't watch those channels at their homes. But the spokesman told me only Dish subscribers can tune in to this broadcast at 6 p.m. our time on KBAK and KBFX. Oh, that makes a lot more sense. So, if you have a Dish satellite and want to hear from the CEO why you can't watch your favorite programs on CBS/Fox lately, tune in to either station to get your questions/gripes answered. Or call 1-888-621-2078 or send an e-mail to: CharlieChat@DishNetwork.com. And if you want to let me know what he said, please do: jshearer@bakersfield.com or 395-7234. Thanks, Jenny Shearer

Jenny. It appears that CBS/FOX, due to lost ad revenue, is raising their fee for their service by 82%. Of course expecting Dish to pass the cost on to their viewers. With the economy in such a poor condition, I can't imagine Dish caving in to them. The CEO suggested that Dish viewers could get some of the programs on the Internet. The CEO also stated that they were millions of dollars apart in their negotiations. posted by

I was a Dish Network subscriber a few years back when they had a dispute with Viacom, which led to the loss of Comedy Central, MTV and other channels for about 36 hours. I read a lot of accounts of it and concluded, basically, that Viacom was the bad guy and Dish Network was the good guy, in that case. I wonder to what extent CBS and Fox's deals with the NFL are part of the problem. Networks pay these huge amounts of money for the rights, and somebody has to provide the revenue. If ads aren't doing it, then subscribers have to. I wonder if Bright House has to pay Fisher for the rights to carry the channels. I doubt it. posted by
