Photos: Rocket comes down from the Padre Hotel
Sections of Spartacus Miller's rocket lie near The Padre Hotel. It was brought down off the top of the hotel as construction continues at the hotel and a new era begins for the downtown Bakersfield landmark.

Maybe the "rocket" will be displayed somewhere? If there's ever a history book about Bako, Spartacus Miller would have to be included. He was a colorful character. posted by

It should be rushed off to the Kern County Museum; there is no better resting place for this artifact, and the museum knows exactly how to showcase oddities like this. Who do we call to get this going? posted by

The "read more here" article stated that the rocket was going to the Kern County Historical Society. I'm sure they plan to display it somewhere, probably the Kern County Museum. One could always contact them and ask. posted by

The rocket was donated by the Padre owners to the Kern County Museum several weeks ago.The Kern County Museum picked it up from the Padre this morning. It is in our restoration shop for now and will be displayed out by our neon sign collection later this year after being reassembled and repainted. posted by

Woot! Glad to hear the rocket will join the Kern County Museum's collection of landmark Bakersfield iconography. Now what happened with the Alamo/Tombstone signs? Didn't they get stored too? Is the museum getting them as well? posted by

a comparative newbie to Bakersfield. actually we live almost an hour to the northeast just outside of Sequoia. but Bakersfield is our "home town" for groceries, gasoline, a fine lunch, diesel, medical, etc. and more than fascinated by the history of my adopted home town. have driven by the Padre many times over the last years, thinking what a wonderful old place it must have been. very happy to see that final restoration funds are in place. however, we know nothing of Spartacus Miller and his rocket. and of course, we "need to know" or just how to look it up.
thanks
