Future NOR Recreation Centers

North of the River is gathering the members of the communities opinions about the interest of building two state of the art recreation centers.  These centers are still in the planning stage, so your input could affect the final outcome of the facilities and the programs they provide.

Please answer these two questions.

What is your level of interest in seeing these recreation centers come to fruition?

Would you support the construction of these facilities through the issue of cities bonds?

Zero interest. Zero support.

Not unless it can be proven that the centers would benefit the community they are in and will be taken care of by that community.

For instance, no to tennis courts if nobody wants to play tennis. No to a softball diamond if it won't be used. Yes to a soccer field or two if that's what everybody wants. Yes for a skateboard park if that's what the kids want to do.

And a big fat resounding NO if the community can't be trusted not to vandalize or set fire to any part of it.

Where would the centers be located and what does "state of the art" mean?  What would be offered?

America's Gym is expensive but is much nicer than any of current NOR facilities and that is why we do both gymnastics and swimming through them.  I have a 7 and 5 year old and live in NOR's boundaries, so I am definately interested in hearing more.

I would love for NOR to consider parents, especially when it comes to swim lessons.  We go out in the middle of the summer heat and there is no shade and limited chairs at Greenacres.  Misters are fairly cheap and would be nice at both sites.  After 3 years of lessons through two different NOR sites, last summer I decided enough was enough and switched to America's Gym, which is much nicer for the parents, but not for the pocket-book.

And it still won't be good for the pocketbook if we had to re-build them every time someone decides to take a match to it...nope,it all depends on the community and their willingness to care and maintain for the facility...and the facts says they don't....it's their children that made this decision up for us...and this should go for every facility within city/county limits.....

Letting two idiots(I believe the arson came down to two teenage types) control the county seems like a bad idea to me. Those rubber mats would have gone a long way in protecting the play ground equipment, granted a committed arsonist would still light a fire.

I'd like to know the answer to stickbugs questions.  Providing facilities is a community asset, something companies consider when they choose a new place to move their operations, thus providing jobs. More information is needed .

These efforts should be placed on the back burner until the park at the corner of Old Farm and Noriega is designed and constructed.  Finish what's on your plate before you start looking for more projects to do.  THere is a HUGE need for a park in this area!  Let's see some action.
