I've been a member for over a year now.

It's a great way to get rid of old stuff. I've gotten rid of a bunch of computer parts, packing boxes and even a TV.

Most of the time I see what people are asking for and give it up if I have it and not using it.

I used to do it all the time when it first began! I gave items and accepted free items as well. Some of the stuff is just junk or little odds and ends, but sometimes people offer very nice items--completely free! Many times (for safety) the person will give you directions to their house and leave the item at the front door for you to pick up and sometimes if the item is small enough, they will have you meet them at a neutral location. Browse the items daily and email the person the minute the item is offered, because they go quickly!

One thing to remember when using it is don't wait forever for someone to pick up what you offered. I wait two days and then move down to the next person on the list.

Some people will respond right away they want it, but then never get back to you to arrange to pick it up.

I used to subscribe to Freecycle, too, Nancy.  In principle I think it's a great idea, but . . .   I had to establish a separate email account for all the emails I would get.  Seriously, if a weekend or (heaven forbid!) a week would go by and I hadn't checked my freecycle email, there would be a couple hundred emails waiting for me!  No joke!  The way it was organized a few years ago when I signed up was a complete mess, IMHO.  Nothing was categorized, so a person could post a gazillion times for all his/her individual items.  And if you were looking for something in particular, you had to wade through a gazillion emails.  Don't know if it's any better organized now, but I finally cancelled.  It was more horrible than your worse spam nightmare!

That happens, especially when you have something no one wants.

ColorNine, You had the option for receiving emails when people posted turned on. It's simple enough to turn it off. You even get instructions on how to turn it off when you sign up.

Things must have changed, TSM.  I don't recall having any options like that several years ago when I signed up.  May be worth another look if I can control all that spam.

I just finished an email exchange with one of the people who set it up and you're right, the option wasn't available back then.

You can turn it off and only receive responses to your offerings now.

Well your right Nancy ~ it is not even about ideas but just personalities that crude, rude remarks are made. RON I am speaking to you. That's the difference between us my friend,I would never try to give you away or recycle you. You are a valuable part of this community, one I virtually never agree with, but your right to speak is dear to me.

It is a great way to get rid of things you do not want anymore,Nancy.

I listed a scanner that stopped working for me.  Someone else may figure out it' s just a plug or something.  There isn't much to them so it can't be too bad...can it?  LOL.

Now I just have to remember to check the mail at that address..I rarely ever use it.
