Most contrators in the building biz start really early and quit by 2 ish in the summer.  We used to be one the job at daybreak getting stuff ready but you can't start making oise til after 7.  We were long gone and headed back to Tehachapi by 2 pm.

My worst summer day working in the electical business was when we were wiring a small apt complex on so H Street in about '80.  It was 112 and I was hanging porchlights on the South side of the building in the direct sun.  When I finished one I'd go in, fill a cup with water, and pour it all over me.  I about croaked that year.

HERE IN THE SUMMER THE SUN COMES UP AT 4AM AND SETS AROUND 8PM 

I was tired of it at the first thought.  The only reason I prefer summer over winter is that the days are longer and I'm not as shut in.  At least in the summer I can go out in the yard in the morning and evening.  Can't do that in the winter.

Nancy even SF was hot today about 75 inside the city, 65 on the Golden Gate and the termometer said 100-108 the entire trip home.  I had to put the top down too because the a/c in the car decided it would stop working.  Well at least I didn't choke to death on cigar smoke, but I feel like I need butter rubbed all over me because I look like a lobster!

I came home to find my garage door had heated up so much it melted the bonding agent that apparently attached it to the frame (cheap piece of ...!) and warped when I tried to open it.  It won't even open manually as the giant spring that lifts it cracked in two and some cables broke.  It looks like I rammed it.  The heat is just relentless!  I was pouring sweat off of me until I finally jumped in an ice cold shower and I'm not sure if it was the 100 degree heat at 9 o'clock or the sunburn or both.  To make matters worse there are BUGS crawling up the drainpipes and were in every sink and bathroom in the house.  Nasty!  I'm even afraid to use the pool - I don't even want to know what's crawling around on the walls out there!  Time to call Mr. Clark and poison Mother Nature yet again.  Sometimes I want to just kill all the plants and shrubs so the little buggers have no place to hide.

All I need to make this a vacation ending to remember is for my home a/c to seize up (AGAIN!)!!  My neighbor's went out when I was gone and as she had the key and alarm code to my place she had to hang out here until hers was fixed - heat like this can be a death sentence to the elderly or disabled.

Anyone else experiencing the worst summer has to offer?  Tired of it yet?!

LOL..nahh AL, I pay for AAA so I figure I'll let them change the tire in this lousy heat..  I found a nail in it so I decided not to mess with the little compressor after all.  I figured it's better to have them put the doughnut on and take it to a tire shop to fix.

I hope you hired a licensed contractor who has in turn hired appropriately skilled workers. There's a reason why roofers suffer more injuries than any other job, and also have the highest workers' comp rates. 

I'm surprised that an employer would take on a job with such heat expected in the coming days. They certainly couldn't work under other conditions such as rain, of which we get very little. Seems to me that a responsible contractor would have some compassion. But hey, that's just me. I've seen those guys working, sweating, and nearly passing out in new construction all the time. 

we are reroofing the house this next week..arghhh I hope they can leave the AC alone until the last minute for a quick change over....one day tear off one day nail on wood..one day to inspect then two days nail on new shingles..I tried to get them to do it 2 weeks ago but they said they were backed up..now the workers and us are gonna pay..maybe I should load up the dogs and kids and head over to my sisters place and hang out by the pool for a few days..*GRIN*

I wish I could call in sick.  I have to go in at 11 am and I just went out and found my back tire is FLAT !   I'll try the little compressor I carry in my trunk but it may mean a call to AAA in the morning.

CRAP !!!!

108 predicted for tomorrow.  I'm betting a few more than usual will be calling in sick in the morning.

107 in the car at 3:30 in the Coscto parking lot today. I parked on the southernmost end of the lot for a bit of shade. By the time I got back in my car and drove a few miles it settled in at 104.

Idelwild Cafe???  I think the "cafe" part was a little false advertising... All I remember about the Idlewild was they did not card (but neither did the Buffalo Bar or Century Club).  Half the sophomore class was in there one night.

Nancy, I'm with you here in the 'Dale and my weatherstation is showing 104.5. I've got a great weatherstation that reads both inside and outside temp - I have a device outside along with a wind detector on the fireplace.  Way to hot for me outside, but I gotta brave it to go to grocery store later... ugh!

My thermometer says 107F right now. I just tried doing a very simple woodworking project in the garage. I was out there for about an hour and am now drenched in sweat. I really have to get a portable AC for the garage (the portable swamp cooler does squat, but it never was effective, even inside). My indoor sensor says 87F but it's right on the computer desk, so some of that is exhaust heat from the computer (which says its internal case temperature is 85F with the CPU being a whopping 140F).

Speaking of gizmos' but OT, for less than $5 I bought a "sticky pad" that you lay on the dash of your car and your phone stays in place.  Best $5 I've ever spent.  My sister from out of state called completely excited that it worked so well.  I haven't had to dig around under the seat while driving 60+ mph since I bought it.  It's has no glue or anything that damages your dash, it just  Stays In Place.  MAGIC

Oh man, Wyoming?  I am so jealous.  I hear it's downright gorgeous there.

It does get toasty here too but it cools down so much at night that leaving the windows open makes a world of difference. Having the river and mountain close by helps too.

I know what you mean, Nancy.  I should be cleaning the house, but I don't feel like it.  I never feel like it, but I especially don't feel like it now.  Will probably wash off the patio instead.  For hours.

105 here now.  Sensor is on a fence rail on the patiio in the shade.  It's 85 inside.  Boy do I love that fancy gizmo thermometer.  Gott a remember to email granddaughter and tell her what a great gift it was.

The little cooler is doing as that type is advertised.  Brings the temp down 20 degrees.  I'm fine as long as I don't get up and do anything and that's not a problem for me today.  :-)

iPhone reads exactly 100. I have  no idea where it gets the temps but it seems right with the locals radio numbers.  I'm sure I will find out now that people know my lack of tech knowledge.  I know for a fact it's not  100 degrees on my desk where it is laying.

Was out of town two days, came back and saw my dashboard thermometer (supposedly outside temp) over 100.  Couldn't be, I thought--but the bank I passed agreed with it.

Have yet to turn the A/C on, though.  Fans and open windows at night.

 High here  today 80. Have not turned my cooler on for 3 years now. We decided if we do not use it again this summer we are taking it down for good.

Yikes, I forgot to report back didn't I?  I hit a church rummage sale (my favorites) and found tons of clothes.  All you could put in a bag for 2 bucks.  (that's primarily what I sell..and mostly hopefully vintage.)  Found a Ship n' Shore Blouse and a couple of Koret skirts.  Always good for a sale.  Vanity Fair gown and negligee set, several designer dresses...just oodles of stuff. 

Daughter Deb (dreamifucan) is tall and slim and the things she finds are amazing.  She wears a lot of them and then sells them after a while.  She can wear a tater sack and look like a million bucks where I look like I have a tater sack on..just tied in the middle.

I also found 2 small pictures about what I'd been looking for.   One mans treasure......and all that.

Mine says 102, but it always reads a couple of degrees hot in the daytime due to being too near the concrete of the patio. I really wish the outdoor sensor was actually *waterproof* (why they sell outdoor sensors that aren't is beyond me) so I could put it out in the garden somewhere.

My other sensor is under the eaves of the house, which means it reads ridiculously high during the day (heat from the roof and attic gather there). It says 115 currently. Definately not a day to be going in the attic, heh.

My front porch not so high tech thermometer, that is in the shade ,read 100 degrees in the "inner city slum" that is the Oleander area. LOL It is hot! But we all know it can get much worse...
