And you wondered what to do with that leftover pizza?

HELPFUL HINTS

Reheat Pizza
Heat up leftover pizza in a non-stick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy.  No soggy micro pizza. I saw this on the cooking channel and it really works.
Mona,
Orlando, FL

Easy Deviled Eggs
Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash till they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw bag away when done easy clean up.
Janet,
Killeen, TX

Expanding Frosting
When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar/calories per serving.
Kathy,
Mesick, MI

Reheating refrigerated bread
To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.
Dave,
Camden, DE

Newspaper weeds away
Start putting in your plants, work the nutrients in your soil. Wet newspapers put layers around the plants overlapping as you go cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening plastic they will not get through wet newspapers.
Linda, Monmouth Jct., NJ

Broken Glass
Use a dry cotton ball to pick up little broken glass pieces of glass- the fibers catch ones you can't see!
Olive,
Santee, CA

No More Mosquitoes
Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away.
Diane, Moran, SC

Squirrel Away!
To keep squirrels from eating your plants sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.
Kathy,
Maumelle, AR

MINE!!!!!
If you purchase a new bike for your child, place their picture inside the handle bar before placing the grips on. if the bike is stolen and later recovered, remove the grip and there is your proof who owns the bike.
Janet,
Carthage, IL

Flexible vacuum
To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.
Donna,
Anderson, SC

Reducing Static Cling
Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and - voila - static is gone.
Pam, Maple Rapids, NH

Measuring Cups
Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill it with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry the cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out.
Kim,
Goldsboro, NC

Foggy Windshield?
Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car. When the windows fog, rub with the eraser!  Works better than a cloth!
Alicia,
Tampa, FL

Reopening envelope
If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside, just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. Voila! It unseals easily.
Mary,
Lockhart, TX

Conditioner
Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's a lot cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it in your hair...
Kerry, Canada,

Goodbye Fruit Flies
To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass fill it 1/2" with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dishwashing liquid, mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!
Barbara, Birch Run, MI

Get Rid of Ants
Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it "home," & can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, esp. if it rains, but it works & you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!
Teresa,
Mitchell, SD

Take baby powder to the beach
Keep a small bottle of baby powder in your beach bag.  When you're ready to leave the beach sprinkle yourself and kids with the powder and the sand will slide right off your skin.

What has happened to our health care system?

My daughter, who lost a kidney 4 years ago, started having pain in her side and went to the ER in Kern River Valley (Mt. Mesa) on Monday evening.  She was told that she most likely had either a small stone or a kidney infection but that with only one kidney it could be very serious.  They don't have a urologist in their area so she was told they needed to transport her to Bakersfield as soon as a bed became available and that there were 26 people ahead of her.  She was also told that KMC took their own ER patients before taking any from the outlying areas.

By Tuesday morning the ER doctor said that they were even looking at Los Angeles or Fresno for a bed and that it would be afternoon before anything happened.  By afternoon, they said it would be evening before anything happened.  I left to come home (back to Bakersfield) around 5 with the assurance that she'd be here within a few hours.  When we didn't hear anything by 9 o'clock, we finally got hold of someone in KV ER and were told she would be staying the night there and that there were still 6 ahead of her.   My daughter called me just after midnight and said they finally got a bed and she was being transported to Fresno.

Apparently hers was not considered an immediate emergency, although getting an infection in her one remaining kidney seems pretty urgent to me, so she was put at the end of a very long line.  Or could it be because she had no insurance?  She lay in a narrow ER  bed for 21 hours before they rolled a bed in and tucked her away in a corner.   I even had to ask for that.

The hospital wouldn't admit her because they couldn't provide services (with no specialist) so they kept her in ER giving her antibiotics for over 28 hours.  Apparently they wouldn't discharge her because of the liability, and If she had gone AMA she would have been even worse off as far as the waiting list went.

She has lived in Kern County all her life.  Worked here, paid taxes here.  And now she's in a hospital in Fresno, far from family and friends.

Maybe she's better off there, at least they took her as a patient when her own county couldn't find room.

Methamphetamine is an addictive stimulant drug that strongly activates certain systems in the brain. Methamphetamine is chemically related to amphetamine, but the central nervous system effects of methamphetamine are greater. Both drugs have some limited therapeutic uses, primarily in the treatment of obesity.

Methamphetamine is made in illegal laboratories and has a high potential for abuse and addiction. Street methamphetamine is referred to by many names, such as "speed," "meth," and "chalk." Methamphetamine hydrochloride, clear chunky crystals resembling ice, which can be inhaled by smoking, is referred to as "ice," "crystal," "glass," and "tina."

Health Hazards

Methamphetamine releases high levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine, which stimulates brain cells, enhancing mood and body movement. It also appears to have a neurotoxic effect, damaging brain cells that contain dopamine as well as serotonin, another neurotransmitter. Over time, methamphetamine appears to cause reduced levels of dopamine, which can result in symptoms like those of Parkinson’s disease, a severe movement disorder.

Methamphetamine is taken orally or intranasally (snorting the powder), by intravenous injection, and by smoking. Immediately after smoking or intravenous injection, the methamphetamine user experiences an intense sensation, called a “rush” or “flash,” that lasts only a few minutes and is described as extremely pleasurable. Oral or intranasal use produces euphoria—a high, but not a rush. Users may become addicted quickly, and use it with increasing frequency and in increasing doses.

Animal research going back more than 20 years shows that high doses of methamphetamine damage neuron cell endings. Dopamine- and serotonin-containing neurons do not die after methamphetamine use, but their nerve endings (“terminals”) are cut back, and regrowth appears to be limited.

The central nervous system (CNS) actions that result from taking even small amounts of methamphetamine include increased wakefulness, increased physical activity, decreased appetite, increased respiration, hyperthermia, and euphoria. Other CNS effects include irritability, insomnia, confusion, tremors, convulsions, anxiety, paranoia, and aggressiveness. Hyperthermia and convulsions can result in death.

Methamphetamine causes increased heart rate and blood pressure and can cause irreversible damage to blood vessels in the brain, producing strokes. Other effects of methamphetamine include respiratory problems, irregular heartbeat, and extreme anorexia. Its use can result in cardiovascular collapse and death.

A news item on TV was about annoying co workers and how they can affect job performance, stress levels, and even people leaving their job over it.   They gave this web site so you can send (anonymously of course) an email to an annyoing co worker to let them know just how annoying they are.  It even has a place where you can add YOUR complaint.  Great site.  I recognized several from my cubicle world.       & nbsp;

Today I got another of those emails telling you how to save your own life if you have a heart attack.  In the first place, it was forwarded but to give the sender his due, he knew how to erase the previous names.

I'm sure you folks have had the same one..you know, if you have a heart attack and you're alone, please cough deeply and it will save your life.  I'm constantly amazed at the people who just click forward on email and never bother to check to see if it's a myth or the gospal truth.  How hard is it to go to www.snopes and take a look?  Not long ago I got one of those "I won't buy Pepsi because they deleted part of the pledge of allegence...or was it Coke that did that?  Or was it deleting how many steps there are at the capitol building?  Or that Frenches mustard comes from France and we should boycott it?  Geez...I can't remember what I'm supposed to use or do at any given email opening.

The thing that concerns me about blindly sending on email is that some, if you're gullible, could be dangerous to your health.  Are people so eager to share their email with everyone that they feel the need to forward EVERYTHING that comes across their screen?  I've been caught once or twice by family on one that sounded logical but proved wrong so I RARELY forward anything with out checking it out and then copying and pasting to a NEW email before sending.

That's another pet peeve....people forwarding forwarded mail.  You have to scroll half way down the page before you come to the actual content.  I have begun deleting, without reading, email from most people who do that consistantly.  If it's someone who rarely does it, I'll open it.  But if everything that comes from a person is forwarded then pffft..out it goes.  I only send out thing I think are interesting and it's rare that I forward anything.  Only if I'm afraid I'll lose something animated will I do that.

Whew...I got that off my chest.  Please, feel free to share your pet peeves about email.  It's a part of our lives now so maybe people reading this will see themselves and learn something from it.

This is the way Wear Drive looked in the 50's.  We played all around the palm trees and in the summer when it was blistering hot, all the barefoot kids ran from one to the next to keep from burning our feet.

For those not familiar with it, it's the narrow paved road between Fruitvale Avenue and Patton Way on Rosedale Highway.   There's not much there now but it was once part of a very busy little community that boasted THREE grocery stores, a gas station/garage, a restaurant and bar named the Oasis, a blacksmith shop, a church, and Fruitvale Elementary School.

Don't look for the trees..they're long gone.

My, my anny..do you eat with that dirty mouth of yours?  Isn't being anonymous special?  Would you say that using your very own birth name?  Do you even have one?  Or did a buzzard puke you up on a stump and the sun hatched you?

This is, of course, in reference to your gutter mouth reply on Eric's Big Brother blog.  I refuse to muck up his blog with you any more..you can continue it here if you like.
