Unions and county clash over contracts...
Any comments on this article?
......"Three county unions picketed on Truxtun Avenue Tuesday morning before two of them headed inside the Kern County Administrative Center to appeal to county supervisors to give them a contract. General county workers, sheriff's deputies and detention officers marched in union colors -- waving signs at the downtown traffic. They want better pay. A fourth county union -- representing probation officers -- has filed a labor action against the county charging its negotiators are failing to make a fair effort to reach a contract." It seems I inadvertantly deleted this post while thinking I was deleting another. Sigh..some days I'm concerned about my head. The story is here.. http://www.tehachapinews.co... about the Tehachapi toddler who was removed by CPS and placed in foster care. 6 weeks later she was returned to her grandmother covered in bruises. It's under investigation. Jason..thanks for the link. Sorry for the mixup. 2nd amendment? Too much government? I ran across these and thought they were pretty good.
Quotes - Thomas Jefferson
The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not. -Thomas Jefferson
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms..disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed one." - Thomas Jefferson quoting Cesare Beccaria, Criminologist in 1764. That was 230 years ago. -Thomas Jefferson
"The constitutions of most of our states (and of the United States) assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves;
"The beauty of the second amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it." -Thomas Jefferson
The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.-Thomas Jefferson
I am not a friend to a very energetic government. It is always oppressive.-Thomas Jefferson
Power is not alluring to pure minds.-Thomas Jefferson
Most bad government has grown out of too much government.-Thomas Jefferson
What country can preserve its liberties if its rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance?-Thomas Jefferson
Were we directed from Washington when to sow and when to reap, we should soon want bread.-Thomas Jefferson
Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous sea of liberty.-Thomas Jefferson
I think myself that we have more machinery of government than is necessary, too many parasites living on the labor of the industrious.-Thomas Jefferson
A free people [claim] their rights as derived from the laws of nature, and not as the gift of their chief magistrate.-Thomas Jefferson
(Disclaimer..I did NOT research these to see if they were accurate.)
Hopefully this little video will come through. Children see....
OK..someone had to start a blog on the get together. Personally I had a great time. I didn't get to visit as much as I'd like with a couple of the bloggers but overall it was really nice to put faces to names. I want to thank the Californian staff for putting this together and giving us an opportunity to talk live to folks we've been blogging with. Some were fairly new and others have been around for a while. No matter..all were fun to meet. Jason and Mary... GREAT JOB !!!! http://blog.democrats.com/o... What do you folks think of his dialogue? Class and Tattoos Do we still have a class system these days? And if we do, what part do tattoos play in it? Would we see people from what is traditionally known as “upper class” sporting sleeves? Would we see “blue blood” folks shaving their heads and tattooing their scalp? Would we see politicians wearing low rider pants with tattoos across the ummm..derriere? (Maybe that would help their popularity.) We see actors and models now sporting tattooed arm bands but would we want our super models to be all tatted up? Katherine Hepburn was a very classy lady and somehow I can't see her with ANY kind of tattoo. I’m curious as to what the rest of you folks think about this. The levels were (in my sociology class) Lower lower class, lower class, upper lower class, lower middle class, middle class, upper middle class, lower upper class, upper class, and I guess, upper upper class. We were told at that time that people rarely moved more than one position up the class scale in their generation. (So much for Pygmalion and all the movies to follow.) What are your thoughts on class and tattoos? And what do you think about how many a person has having anything to do with class? Remember this is a generalization about how people perceive others. This should get some knickers a few knots. "An Inconvenient Meal" .....and the letter from PETA
The Real Story on the right of the page.
.......It's a little irreverant but what the heck.
An no..it isn't an attack on Gore for heavens sake. I'd think it was funny no matter who it was featuring.
There's a cat stuck on a power pole in my back yard and has been there for at least 24 hours (that I'm aware of). Any ideas who to call for help?
(This was sent to me and I want to share it with all of you.) ANNOUNCEMENT: Once again we have passed that monument to efficiency called Presidents Day. Not only do most holidays now occur on Monday or Friday, some also must do double duty so we celebrate simultaneously the lives of two men born almost 100 years apart.
And it isn't just birthdays that get combined: the arbitrary birthday of Jesus gets combined with the documented events of Chanukah and the invented celebration of Kwanza at the Wiccan winter solstice--- even Jesus is not considered unique. Easter doesn't count because it is on Sunday, every time.
Which brings us to the only remaining vestige of celebratory inefficiency: Martin Luther King Day. Since Columbus Day has also been eliminated, this is the only holiday devoted to just one man. Consequently, progressive legislation has been introduced to bring it also into the modern era. After a careful selection process involving a less than significant cross section of the public, another gentleman has been chosen to augment Dr. MLK, so that the day will henceforth honor both of them simultaneously. That selected person was Supreme Court Justice Warren Burger.
Dr. Burger, a strict interpreter of the constitution, was appointed to the US Supreme Court in 1967 where he upheld the right of judges to order busing students to help achieve the dream of Dr. King.
Be it resolved, therefore, that commencing in 2008 AD, the third Monday in January will be the annual celebration of these two outstanding leaders, officially designated National Burger King Day.
