Clandestine Conservatives in Hollywood
As I was being interviewed recently at my Texas ranch by Geraldo Rivera, I thought back over my four decades in acting and how the pool of conservative "tough guys" seems to be drying up in Hollywood. Or are liberal waters just getting too hot for conservatives?

Then I recalled that The Washington Times recently reported, "A group of politically conservative and centrist Hollywood figures (up to 600 at once) organized by actor Gary Sinise and others has been meeting quietly in restaurants and private homes, forming a loose-knit network of entertainers who share common beliefs like supporting U.S. troops and traditional American values." But the article also noted that the secret is out on these clandestine meetings, as conservatives progressively are becoming more and more emboldened.

In a so-called age of tolerance, it amazes me just how intolerant some people are of those who stand for traditional values. For example, if I stand against California's memorializing of Harvey Milk Day or stand for California's Proposition 8, which would create an amendment to the California Constitution to safeguard heterosexual purity in marriage (which I do support and encourage Gov. Schwarzenegger and all Californians to do the same), I'm considered by many to be intolerant and a bigot. But if another actor takes just the opposite positions on those measures, he is considered to be compassionate and a liberator. Or when a liberal candidate, such as Hillary Clinton, runs for president, her candidacy is considered a fulfillment of civil rights and women's suffrage. But when a conservative candidate, such as Sarah Palin, runs for vice president, she's considered a radical right-wing extremist who could usurp the Capitol by toting rifles at her side.

This is America, and we should respect the fact that we will have strong, diverse opinions, and we must allow one another the freedom of speech to air such opines, not suppress them through peer pressure of any type like children. I have many acting friends and many friends in politics. I vehemently disagree with some of them, and that is my American right, as it is theirs. We must agree to disagree agreeably, without blogging about or denigrating someone's life and character before the nation and rest of the world. We must do better at keeping the focus on the fact that we are Americans first; we are not just conservatives and liberals.

If we are going to move our country forward, if it is going to survive and flourish for the next generation, then we have to drop the partisan rancor and pick up a unified patriotism -- not the patriotism of the past eight years or even the past 18 years, but the patriotism of unified spirit and passion shown by early Americans. What was important to them, what they fought for, was not the left or the right, but being American and being free. We've got to get back to that form of patriotism -- one that is based upon the Constitution, not congressional corruption, and elects people for their character, not their charisma. These are the type of citizens and leaders who don't go deeper into debt to bail out debt. These are the type of citizens and leaders who will say enough is enough. Like Ron Paul, who, after drawing similarities between the $700 billion bailout and the Great Depression, said, "The only thing we learn from history, I am afraid, is that we do not learn from history." (Getting to the heart of America's Founders' beliefs -- their patriotism and answers to our problems -- is also at the heart of why I wrote my latest New York Times best-seller, "Black Belt Patriotism.")

I admire those in the recent past who were able to represent a respectful conservatism in the liberal-leaning show business industry -- men such as Charlton Heston, John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart and Ronald Reagan. And I'm grateful for others today who also have stood for conservative values -- incredible actors such as Jim Caviezel, Mel Gibson, Jon Voight and others. These are the type of men who will go against the grain of the Hollywood status quo. These are the type of men who get the fact that entertainment isn't about playing party politics. These are the type of men who demonstrate what my hero and stalwart conservative, John Wayne, once said: "Courage is being scared to death and saddling up anyway."

Despite Tinseltown's liberal leanings, there is a lot of good that conservatives are doing in the film industry -- not only for American entertainment but also for activism. That is why I recommend movies such as Sherwood Pictures' "Fireproof," David Zucker's "An American Carol" and the millennial social cry to expose and stop the global and even American slave trade, "Call + Response."

Underground or aboveground, we're all "created equal … endowed by (our) Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness." On Main Street or Wall Street, in the movie business or the political arena, maybe there's much more overlap in life than we think; maybe we've got a lot more in common than we really know. We're Americans.

(Note From Chuck: My wife, Gena, and I send our heartfelt condolences to the family and close friends of Paul Newman. Newman was absolutely one of Hollywood's finest, not only as an actor but also as a gentleman and humanitarian. Another legendary actor, who inspired us all, has ridden off into the sunset, but he never will be forgotten.)

DNC: Gathering of Clowns and Con Men

You’d never know it from the media’s Obama worshipers covering it, but this week’s Democratic National Convention was a three-ring circus complete with an assortment of sword swallowers, clowns, and magicians.

It was the magicians who took the center ring and proceeded to convert their publicly expressed doubts about Barack Obama into ringing endorsements of his alleged fitness to be this nation’s chief executive and commander in chief.

That’s an amazing feat of legerdemain, especially if the woman in the wizard’s cap is Hillary Clinton, who up to now has solemnly assured us that Barack Obama is not even remotely equipped to be president.

Targeting his failure to vote on key abortion measures she quipped, "A president can't vote 'present.' A president can't pick and choose which challenges he or she will face.”

Now, with a wave of her magic wand, Obama’s unfitness to occupy the White House (which she and her husband are still convinced is theirs) is suddenly transformed. He is now uniquely qualified for a presidency she had warned us he was utterly unfit to occupy.

Too bad. She was right the first time, but that was before she joined the circus in Denver.

Then, with a blare of trumpets, Joe Biden enters the center ring and waves his magic wand. The man he railed against as unqualified to be president is now, he tells us, the very man for the job. The same man, he recently insisted, has no business running for president.

Said Joe before he became a magician (and Barack’s running mate): "I think he can be ready, but right now I don't believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training."

Obviously, Joe wants us to believe Obama has taken a crash course in presidential fitness and passed with flying colors.

Next comes Bill Clinton the sword swallower, who wants us to swallow the whopper of his belief in Obama's presidential fitness, as he all but worships at the altar of Obamamessiah — the same Obama about whom just a day or two earlier Bill Clinton had suggested was not the man for the job, the same Obama he regularly pilloried while campaigning for his wife.

In a stem-winding speech he pulled out all the stops in trying to convince us that Obama is fit to take the office of president and solve all problems great and small. He pledged he’d go all-out to help Obama, but he never quite got around to saying that he’d vote for him in November.

And of course they sent in the clowns. What circus would be complete without them? There was the parade of sad-faced clowns — the losers, featuring John Kerry and Jimmy Carter, and even Mike Dukakis. Al Gore couldn’t make it — he was too busy waving his magic wand to save the planet from a non-existent threat.

Among the happy-faced clowns were Nancy Pelosi and her Senate counterpart Harry Reid, taking time out from the sideshow on Capitol Hill where they have presided over that comic skit called the 110th Congress, which came into the Capitol tent waving promises that were never kept.

Watching this spectacle may have been fun, as long as nobody took it seriously. Now they’re taking the show on the road. We’ll see how it plays in Peoria.

Dear Abby.
I am a 60-year-old woman who is married to a man who acts
like he hates me. In public, he pretends he loves me and
talks about how wonderful I am. But in private, he shakes
his finger in my face and calls me the "B" word.
He constantly tells me how ugly I am without make-up. I've
tried everything, including a face-lift, botox treatments,
and a chin tuck. I even went on a diet and lost 20 pounds.
He quit his job a few years ago after having an affair
with a woman in his office. He hasn't even looked for
another job. We haven't slept together since I confronted
him about the affair. He denied it, of course, but
everybody knew it. It was humiliating. I believe he is
still messing around.
While we both want to sell this house, we argue constantly
about when to put it on the market. The house we want will
be available in a few months. My husband wants to put our
house on the market now. I think we should wait a while.
He has already started collecting boxes and packing up
his stuff. Do you think he is planning to leave me?
Signed,
Worried in NY

Dear Worried in NY:
I doubt it. He wants to move back into the White House
as much as you do.

Little Suzy had a box of very small kittens that she was trying to give away, so she had them out on the street corner with a sign "FREE KITTENS" next to them.  Suddenly a long line of big black cars came up with a policeman on a motorcycle in front.   The cars all stopped and a tall man stepped out from the biggest car.  "Hi, little girl, what do you have there in the box?" he asked.

"Kittens" Little Suzy says.  "They're so small, their eyes are not even open yet."

"What kind of kittens are they?" he asked.  "Democrats" says Little Suzy.

The tall man smiled, returned to his car and they drove away. Sensing a good photo opportunity, Sen. Obama called his campaign manager and told him about the little girl with the kittens. It was planned that they would return the next day, have all the media there and tell everyone about these "democrat" kittens.

The next day, Little Suzy is standing out on the corner with her box of kittens with the "FREE KITTENS" sign, and the big motorcade of black cars pulled up with all the vans and trucks from ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN.

Everyone had their cameras ready and then Sen. Obama got out of his limo and walked up to Little Suzy.  "Now don't be frightened," he said, I just want you to tell all these nice news people just what kind of kittens you're giving away today."

"Yes sir," Suzy said, "they are all REPUBLICAN kittens."

Taken by surprise, Sen. Obama said, "But yesterday you told me they were DEMOCRATS."

Little Suzy says, "Yes, I know.  But today, they have their eyes open."

Western Oklahoma bovine relocation specialist (usta be Cowboy)

I thought some of you might enjoy this.  A "good ol' farm boy from western Oklahoma" writes a column like this each week. There is a lot of truth in this, or this is the truth, whichever you perceive. What is this "change" they keep talking about?

"What's Under My Hat" by Monte Tucker----------January 28, 2008

Howdy friends and neighbors. Come on first Tuesday in November!  I have already had about all of the Presidential election I can stand. Surely, somewhere out there in this great nation is a "good ol' boy or gal" that is worth voting for.  You know, someone that has actually done something, not just talked about what they think they have done.  It's only the first quarter in the game between the R's and the D's. Both sides keep talking about time for change.  Just what are they going to change?  They obviously haven't changed the game of politics. Every time I see the media put their face on my boob tube Billary and Bama Lama Ding Dong boost the word "change."
The first place they could start changing things would be on the Senate floor that they're already on.  Just go and look at their voting records for the last several months and you will find they aren't showing up to vote. You know, the job they campaigned so hard to get by promising "change," but they just don't have the time.  McCain isn't immune from this either.

Let's talk "change."  What in the world do these hot air compressors think they are going to change and why?  Again, I'm just a professional bovine relocation specialist, (it's the 21st century, we used to call them cowboys).  But the way I see it from Sunny Point, Oklahoma, how are they going to change the greatest nation in the world?  All of the candidates are demanding we must change!  OK. I wake up a free man every morning and I'm free to do anything that is morally right or I can do nothing.  If I choose to do something productive that day, well I can whistle at my dog, start up my ol' tan feed truck that I bought with the help of a free enterprising banking system I chose to use.  Plus, there's the fact that other free Americans assembled this truck, and the companies that bought, sold and hauled parts and supplies to make that pickup possible.  As I turn the key, ol' tans fires up on diesel fuel that a mean, nasty, big oil company conveniently made very accessible and affordable to me.  I turn out of my land that I can freely own, onto a county maintained road that leads to any point in North America I would choose to go to that day. Also, in this country, I am free to own livestock and free to care for them so that the livestock will return a profit so I can repay my bank, buy my feed and fuel, and provide for my family.  On Sunday morning (or any other day that ends in "Y") my family is free to drive from our house on a ribbon of roads that lead to the church of our choice and worship the real owner of all things we know, God.  We can give praise to Him for all and especially for Jesus.

Why can't these hopefuls for the highest-ranking governmental seat see that it is just that simple?  Provide me infrastructure and protect me from these knot-headed whack's that think they can take away our freedom. Billary, Bama Mama or McNobrain aren't going to change anything.  The foundations of this great country can't be changed by one person, no matter how much they think they can.  As Americans, we have the right to succeed or fail and try again as we please.  As a free man, I'm getting good at failing but I get smarter when I try again.

When presidential candidates tout change, the only thing I see in this country that needs changing is them.  Life in America is good and for those that don't think so, you're free to leave at any time, go to another country of your choice and try to change it.

I'm Monte Tucker, and that is what's under my professional bovine relocation specialist hat.  Wait, I'm not changing, that is what's under my COWBOY hat!

McCain Presidency Would Be a Disaster

Sunday, January 27, 2008 8:59 PM

By: Ronald Kessler

John McCain’s false charge that Mitt Romney favored a set timetable for withdrawing from Iraq underscores how disastrous a McCain presidency would be.

Any candidate can make a slight misstatement while talking extemporaneously. Hillary Clinton constantly rewrites her own record and has been caught fabricating, as when she made up the story that on 9/11, her daughter Chelsea was going to jog at Battery Park near the towers, where she heard and saw the catastrophe unfold.

But no candidate in this race has gone so far as to baldly fabricate what another candidate has said, as McCain did over the weekend. That same kind of recklessness is evident in McCain’s explosions of temper, which are meant to intimidate those who do not agree with him or do not support him.

Not naming him at first, McCain said in Fort Myers, Fla., “Now, one of my opponents wanted to set a date for withdrawal that would have meant disaster.”

Talking to reporters minutes later, the Arizona senator was more direct: “'If we surrender and wave a white flag, like Senator Clinton wants to do, and withdraw, as Gov. Romney wanted to do, then there will be chaos, genocide, and the cost of American blood and treasure would be dramatically higher.”

Asked about the comment, Romney said, “That’s dishonest, to say that I have a specific date. That’s simply wrong,” he said. “That is not the case. We’ve never said that.”

Romney asked for an apology. Having moved on to Sun City, Fla., McCain said: “The apology is owed to the young men and women serving this nation in uniform.”

A look at what Romney actually said in an interview on ABC’s Good Morning America on April 3, 2007 makes it clear that Romney said the opposite of what McCain claimed he said.

Robin Roberts said to Romney, “You have also been very vocal in supporting the president and the troop surge. Yet, the American public has lost faith in this war. Do you believe that there should be a timetable in withdrawing the troops?”

“Well, there’s no question but that— the president and Prime Minister al-Maliki have to have a series of timetables and milestones that they speak about,” Romney replied. “But those shouldn’t be for public pronouncement. You don’t want the enemy to understand how long they have to wait in the weeds until you’re going to be gone. You want to have a series of things you want to see accomplished in terms of the strength of the Iraqi military and the Iraqi police, and the leadership of the Iraqi government.”

“So, private,” Robins said. “You wouldn’t do it publicly? Because the president has said flat out that he will veto anything the Congress passes about a timetable for troop withdrawals. As president, would you do the same?”

“Well, of course,” Romney said. “Can you imagine a setting where during the Second World War we said to the Germans, gee, if we haven't reached the Rhine by this date, why, we’ll go home, or if we haven’t gotten this accomplished we’ll pull up and leave? You don’t publish that to your enemy, or they just simply lie in wait until that time. So, of course, you have to work together to create timetables and milestones, but you don’t do that with the opposition.”

With the exception of Sean Hannity on Fox News, no news outlet fully quoted what Romney actually said on GMA. That’s no surprise. As the New York Times’ recent endorsement of McCain suggests, the liberal media love him. As a former McCain aide told me, that’s because the senator gives reporters total access to him and because he is as liberal as a Democrat on many issues.

On almost “every turn on domestic policy, John McCain was not only against us, but leading the charge on the other side,” former Sen. Rick Santorum, the Pennsylvania Republican, has said.

In a stunning example of the media’s slant, the AP’s Ron Fournier wrote after Romney won in Michigan, “The former Massachusetts governor pandered to voters, distorted his opponents’ record, and continued to show why he’s the most malleable—and least credible—major presidential candidate,” Fournier wrote. “And it worked.”

As for McCain, “The man who spoke hard truths to Michigan lost,” Fournier said. “Of all the reasons John McCain deserved a better result Tuesday night, his gamble on the economy stands out”

Not to be outdone, the New York Times ran a story on Jan. 24 headlined, “Romney Leads in Ill Will Among GOP Candidates.” The story said, “In stark contrast to Mr. Romney, Mr. McCain seems to be universally liked and respected by the other Republican contenders, even if they disagree with him.”

The evidence to support that claim came entirely from quotes from present or former McCain aides.

While McCain clearly has formidable supporters, and his stand on the Iraq war was admirable, those who have dealt with him over the years have been appalled by his outbursts of temper, a character trait the media have largely ignored.

In endorsing Romney, Republican Sen. Thad Cochran of Mississippi, who has known McCain for more than three decades, said his choice was prompted partly by his fear of how McCain might behave in the Oval Office.

“The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine,” Cochran said about McCain. “He is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper, and he worries me.”

“He [McCain] would disagree about something and then explode,” said former Sen. Bob Smith, a fellow Republican who served with McCain on various committees. “[There were] incidents of irrational behavior. We’ve all had incidents where we have gotten angry, but I’ve never seen anyone act like that.”

Defending his bill to give amnesty to illegal aliens, McCain unleashed a tirade on Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, who had voiced concerns about the number of judicial appeals illegal immigrants could file under the proposed legislation.

“F*** you!” McCain said to his fellow senator. “I know more about this than anybody else in the room!” McCain shouted.

“People who disagree with him get the f*** you,” said former Rep. John LeBoutillier, a New York Republican who had an encounter with McCain when he was on a POW task force in the House. “I think he is mentally unstable and not fit to be president.”

Andrew H. “Andy” Card Jr., President Bush’s former chief of staff, told me he has observed McCain’s outbursts.

“Sometimes he was pretty angry, but I felt as if he was putting on a show,” Card said. “I don’t know if it was an emotional eruption or it was for effect," Card said.

Democrat Paul Johnson, the former mayor of Phoenix, saw McCain’s temper up close. “His volatility borders in the area of being unstable,” Johnson has said. “Before I let this guy put his finger on the button, I would have to give considerable pause.”

When I appeared on Tucker Carlson's MSNBC show to discuss Newsmax’s disclosures about McCain’s temper, Carlson said on the air, “We got a call earlier tonight from McCain’s Senate office suggesting that we not do this story. [They were] annoyed about it.”

That hint at intimidation is another reason why major media outlets may think twice about revealing what they know of McCain’s temper, which is widely whispered about in Washington. Yet along with track record, such clues to character are a compass to how a president will conduct his presidency.

Over and over, voters have ignored warning signs of poor character and have overlooked track records, only to regret it once a president enters the White House and becomes corrupted by the power of the office.

When he was a candidate for vice president, Richard Nixon became embroiled in an ethics issue when the New York Post revealed he had secretly accepted $18,000 from private contributors to defray his expenses. It should have come as no surprise that he would end up being driven from office by the scandal known as Watergate.

If we elect a candidate with McCain’s monumental character flaws, we can expect to suffer the consequences.

McCain Should Not Be GOP Nominee

Monday, January 28, 2008 9:51 AM

By: John LeBoutillier

It is now clear: The liberal so-called mainstream media is propelling John McCain to the Republican nomination.

And it is also clear that if McCain wins Florida tomorrow — a strong likelihood — the (pathetic) GOP establishment will rush to McCain and embrace him as the inevitable nominee even before the Feb. 5 Super Tuesday primaries.

In Florida the GOP establishment, Sen. Mel Martinez and Gov. Charlie Crist, have already endorsed McCain and pretty much guaranteed that McCain will win on Tuesday.

If and when he does win, the vanquished GOP candidates, Giuliani and Thompson, are soon to jump aboard the McCain bandwagon. And that will be followed by state party leaders all across the nation.

How sickening this spectacle is. What the GOP establishment is doing is embracing someone totally out of step with the GOP voters. Just look at some recent events:

·  McCain hired Juan Hernandez, the leading proponent of amnesty for illegal Mexicans living here in the U.S.

·  On "Meet The Press" on Sunday McCain dodged the question from Tim Russert about whether or not, as president, he would sign his own McCain-Kennedy Immigration bill (which is, in fact, virtual amnesty for illegals). (He will give amnesty when in the Oval Office — especially with a Democratic Congress.)

·  On Sunday in Florida, McCain promised there would be “more wars.” What a way to campaign! What a promise from a potential president! How about pledging to try to prevent more wars?

·  He has already said that if it were up to him we’d stay in Iraq for “10,000 years.”

·  He is a bad guy who, for a number of reasons, has the media eating out of his hand.

·  He has a terrible anger problem. (See Ted Sampley's excellent article at the US Veteran Dispatch.)

·  He wants to bomb all over the Middle East.

Don’t be fooled by polls in January predicting what may or may not happen in November. The general election is a long, long way off. Campaigns are run to change polls. Someone may look electable today but not be so in six months. Remember President Giuliani? The Democrats will have a field day with McCain: He’s a third term of Bush; he’s too old; he’s a mad bomber; he is unstable.

The Republican Party is about to compound the mistake they made in begging G.W. Bush back in 1999 to run for president. He has been a total disaster for the country.

McCain will be even worse.
