The second trip of the year for the Outdoor Adventures Club was to Packsaddle Cave in the Kern River Valley.  The kids braved the tunnels in the back and enjoyed hanging out in the back caverns.  In all, 16 students attended this hike.

In October of 2008, the Outdoor Adventuers Club from Wasco Union High School went on it's first hike.  The club hiked to Needles Fire Lookout off of the Great Western Divide Hwy.  We also hiked along the Trail of 100 Giants - a grove of Giant Sequoia trees south of the Needles Lookout.  We had 27 students attend this hike.

The weekend of May 15 to 17th, the Outdoor Adventures Club joined with the AP Biology class at Wasco High and spent the weekend camping on the Merced river just outside Yosemite.  On Saturday we hiked the Glacier Point trail from the Valley floor to the top (4.6 miles), then back to the floor.  The views from the trail were just amazing.  We saw great waterfalls, granite walls, green meadows, the winding and majestic Merced River, wildflowers, and had our first encounter with a Black Bear.  In all, 29 student made the ascent, and 24 students completed the round trip hike.

On Sunday, May 3rd, the Outdoor Adventures Club from Wasco Union High School hiked to the summit of Morris Peak, near Walker Pass.  In all, 10 students joined the hike, plus advisors.  This was the Club's 5th trip of the year and our longest hike.   We have hiked to Needles Lookout, Packsaddle Cave, Salmon Creek Falls, went camping and kayaking in Morro Bay, and climbed Morris Peak.  This month we will be hiking the Mist Trail in Yosemite, then take a backpack trip in the Kaiser Wilderness in June.

On Saturday, the Outdoor Adventures Club from Wasco High School hiked to Salmon Creek Falls.  In all, 21 students joined the hike.  For some, this was their very first hiking adventure.  We drove over the Greenhorn Summit, saw wildflowers in the morning, then played in the snow.  We got to the trailead around 10:30.  Soon, we ran into Nathan from KRVHC and spent some time hiking with him.  We had lunch at the bridge and let the students play on the rocks in Salmon Creek.  We saw the beautifull Falls and spent some time taking lots of pictures.  Back in Kernville, we treated the kids to icecream sandwichiches and drumsticks.

The Outdoor Adventures Club is planning an overnight backpacking trip in early June.  With a special funding grant from Paramount Farming Company, the OAC was able to acquire backpacks, tents, sleepng bags, and much more for 15 students to backpack.

This past weekend the Outdoor Adventures Club went camping, kayaking, and hiking on the Central Coast.  We had 16 students from the OAC, plus staff and families.  On Friday night we went on a night hike and had a great bunch of fun camping in Morro Bay State Park.  On Saturday morning we paddled in Morro Bay.  The students had never been kayaking before and had a BLAST.  In the afternoon, half of the group explored the tidal pools of Montana de Oro, while the other half hiked to the summit of Valencia Peak (1347').  On Sunday, we took the students to San Simeon to visit the elephant seal migration.
