Pethaven - > Meandering Minds -> Heat wave
Heat wave

I said I wouldn't do it, complain about the sun,

But temperatures are rising and that isn't any fun.

I never thought with summer, a favorite time of year,

That me and verbalizing 'bout the heat is what you'd hear.

But 90's and above is higher than I'm needing,

So rain is what I'm hoping for, oh, no I'm not, I'm pleading.

The house is hot, the yard is hot, the grass is turning brown,

And I have lots of things to do, but I am sitting down.

I'm here on my computer, running words throughout my mind,

I should be up and doing running of a different kind.

No putting feet on words, the kind that uses feet to run,

You know what it is I mean; to get my errands done.

But---I don't care, I'm sitting---it's hot.

Pethaven:  Here in the midwest we've had the oddest weather.  There were times we had a cold day in July (well, okay, not cold, but for July?  yes), and there have been times we've had cool days in August.  Summer's not what it used to be:  summer.  It's a mixture, made for those who like variety, I guess.  Having grown up in the south, it was very difficult to move "north" and feel as though there were never any summer at all.  And oh! the snow.  While I was growing up we had snow three or four times.  We had sleet often enough, but snow was a rarity.  Once my mother let us pack snow in glasses; she poured milk over it, sweetened it and added vanilla flavoring.  We thought we'd died and gone to heaven.  I haven't felt that way about snow since.

Oh, I forgot to tell you!  Our door was installed Saturday!  It's wonderful.  It's a door with a window at the top, there are two sidelights, and there are blinds inside all the windows.  Oh!  never to have to dust blinds again!  The installer and his son were a good team, and when there was something amiss, the installer had to go to the lumber store for something to make it right.  My husband was so happy with the entire thing that he gave the workers a very nice tip.  It was worth it!

Our front entry is now so very light, yet we can tilt the little blinds so we can see out but no one can see in.  I don't know why we didn't do that at the beginning.  There's an old Jewish saying:  too soon old; too late smart.  They nailed it -- at least for us!
