How to post a photo on PhotoBlogger

Upload your photo to an Internet server, such as Flickr, Photobucket, etc. You can also upload it to Bakersfield.com by clicking on "My Settings," then the drop-down menu for "My Media," and then "Upload Media."

Copy the URL for your photo. (If you are looking at your list of photos on Bakersfield.com, right-click or control-click the filename and choose "copy link location.")

In the comment field of the blog, choose the mountain/sun icon to insert an image. Paste the URL into the field in the Image Properties pop-up box. (Note: Clicking the "Browse" button won't work.) Hit OK.

You can resize the photo by clicking on it and dragging a corner in or out. You can also align your photo and make other style changes in the Image Properties box. To access the Image Properties box, right-click or control-click the image and choose "Image Properties."

PhotoBlogger - > B.com Photo Blog -> Today's theme -- Faith!
Today's theme -- Faith!

Hi, everyone!

Welcome back to Photo Blogger!

This is its second week on the blogs and I'm happy to be taking the blog over for Tom. If you hadn't already guessed, it's me, Robin(islost).

This week's theme is faith. If you have any photos that you took during Easter, feel free to share them! I want to mention that although "faith" is usually associated with religion, it does not necessarily have to be a photo directly related to religion. If you look it up in the dictionary, you'll notice that it also mentions something along the lines of "complete trust or confidence; loyalty."

So, Bakersfield bloggers, where are those pictures? Let's see them!

It's so difficult to come up with random weekly themes when there aren't any holidays. Shall we decide together on next week's theme?

By the way, if you have a MySpace and you feel like doing so, feel free to add us to your friends list. www.myspace.com/bakophotoblogger

Well, I think that's about it, but if not I'll just post it in the comment field later.

If I could have changed my picture I would have tried moving the gazebo to the left so the bible and the gazebo were not aligned, which may make a better picture. But I also didn't like the background to the right of the gazebo as much as I liked the left side -- in which case, it would have been better to move the bible to the right instead, but having it at its current angle would make it look awkward, so I don't know if I could figure out how to fix that one, really.

Faith is a doll. She can sing, too!

 FYI:

How do I post a picture in a comment?

There are a couple of steps to this.  First, you need to make sure your picture is stored online somewhere.  You can upload it to the Bakersfield.com website or to another online storage service like Photobucket or Flickr.
All online hosting services will assign a URL or web address (http://www. etc.) to your picture.  All you need to do is copy the URL and then click the picture-postcard icon above the comment field (it's yellow and looks like mountains with a sun above them).  A pop-up window will come up and ask for the URL of the photo.  Paste the URL in the box and click OK.  You'll also see a browse butoon next to this field.  This button is currently non-operational.

What are my other photo options?

When you click the picture-postcard icon above the comment field (it's yellow and looks like mountains with a sun above them), a pop-up window will come up. Besides just posting a picture, you have a whole lot of other cool options.
You can resize the photo by clicking on it and dragging a corner in or out. You can also align your photo and make other style changes in the Image Properties box. To access the Image Properties box, right-click or control-click the image and choose "Image Properties."

Great photos, Robin.  I'll get mine up in a few minutes and also post a list of blog topics I came up with last week.

posted by TomW on Mar 25, 2008 at 09:15 AM

 Here's my list:

Agriculture, industry, industrial, wild flowers, food, skin, sunrise/sunset, humor, kids, water, transportation, animals, pets, power.

Sorry for the image quality on this.  I need to reshoot it.  This is an abandoned church near my place.

Faith, in new life and spring.  These were all taken yesterday on a drive to Glennville.

Oh, and if you click on those pics, THEY BECOME HUGE....enjoy!

 Excellent, Woof!  Those are beautiful.

Oh my goodness, Woof. Those pictures ARE BEAUTIFUL! I'm so glad you shared them with us! And I'm sooo jealous of your lovely pictures!

OK, Michael, you got me. I should have used a lowercase F in my blog post title! But I sure do love her music! :)

Sheesh. Talk about a slow day. My goodness. Where did everyone go?

Well, Tom, what do you think should be next week's topic? I know you have a list, but what should we pick from the list? Could you do me a favor and read the PhotoBlogger profile? I typed some stuff in at 4 a.m., but I'm not sure if I need to add anything or take anything out, so let me know. I just figured we should have a little information up for anyone who visits the profile.

Oh, yeah...sorry about abandoning the blog today. I went back to bed after posting this morning because I had only gotten one hour of sleep, and then I kind of screwed around.

( Here goes my first attempt ever at posting pictures.)

These are a few days late for the occasion, but they fit the theme of this week's photo blog.  I took these at The Shrine of St. Joseph of the Mountains in Yarnell, AZ.

 Easter Dawn In The City

posted by theColorNine on Mar 25, 2008 at 08:05 PM

Thanks, woofwoof.  I had a little difficulty sizing them, because the comment window (and ESPECIALLY the editing window) is so small.   Now I'm having trouble adding an avatar picture.  I've uploaded the picture, put in the URL, but for some reason when I try to save it, it won't.   Any suggestions, Robin or Tom?

I really liked your pictures, especially the purple flower.  What kind is it?

posted by TomW on Mar 25, 2008 at 08:22 PM

ColorNine, are you hitting OK at the bottom and not "browse server"?  That button is, um, for future development.  :)

If you post the url of the photo, I'll post it.

 Easter Sunrise In The City

posted by theColorNine on Mar 25, 2008 at 08:27 PM

The button I'm hitting says SAVE, but nothing happens.  If I try to leave by clicking on anything else, like one of the options on the left side of my screen, I get a message that asks if I want to save and continue or do I want to go back to editing.  If I select the former, nothing happens.  If I do the latter, I just keep repeating the process.

Here's the URL I'm trying to use:  http://people.bakersfield.c...

I just changed my avaiter, so I could remember the steps.

Your at the 'about me' screen

First you choose browse, and select the graphic file on your computer.  (a url of an image won't work, so save the picture [right-click the image, choose save image]  to your computer and then locate it, select it, and save).

Then click save.

Your returned to the same screen, BUT

it's saved, and your ready to move on.

posted by theColorNine on Mar 25, 2008 at 08:53 PM

Right; I got that far, montfred, but it doesn't let me move on. After I hit SAVE, nothing happens, and anything I try to select after that, causes a text box to open that asks if I want to save and continue or do I want to go back to editing.  If I pick S&C, the text box closes, but nothing seems to have happened.

posted by montfred on Mar 25, 2008 at 08:57 PM

I edited my earlier reply, you can't use the url of a photo, reread my 1st post.

posted by TomW on Mar 25, 2008 at 09:15 PM

ColorNine, I misunderstood.  I thought you were trying to post the picture.

Montfred is right.  For an avatar, you need to upload it directly from your computer.  Save the picture to your hard drive and hit browse on the About Me page and use the popup window to find the image on your hard drive.  After that, you've got the process.

It is quite a beautiful picture.

Sorry TCN, I'm not up on my wildflowers here in Kern county....it was just on the side of the road and I thought it was pretty, lol.  It could be a weed for all I know....

Robin, why don;t we do humor for next week?  Sound good to everyone?

posted by theColorNine on Mar 25, 2008 at 09:44 PM

Thanks, montfred and Tom.  I did what you both suggested.  When will the picture start appearing next to my posts?

posted by NancyII on Mar 25, 2008 at 10:21 PM

I just want to mention that if you look toward the bottom left of the pictures I posted you'll see what was a power pole and appears to be a cross.  I didn't notice it when I took them.  Knowing there were pretty sun and moon rises from my porch, I got up before daylight to catch an Easter dawning.

posted by robinislost on Mar 25, 2008 at 10:24 PM

That sounds like a good one, Tom. It's going to be a REAL challenge for me, though. I'm not sure I can do it because I never go anywhere, but I'd be interested to see what everyone else could do. I'll see what I can do, but I might have to search the archives of my pictures and use something from the past to post for next week. Sounds good to me!

You know, Woof, I cannot say for sure, but I think your wild purple flower may be called Dichelostemma capitatum.

I looked it up on Nature Ali's site, Natureali.org, but I'm not sure if it's the correct flower. It's sometimes hard to tell. The yellow one, I'm pretty sure, is a fiddleneck; I'm quite fond of fiddlenecks, even though they're painful to touch. They're all over my pasture right now.

Those are some interesting pictures, ColorNine. I might do a little cropping to some of them and mess with the brightness, etc., just a bit, but generally they are nice pictures.

Nancy, I must say that I like the second one better. I love the way the sun is framed there in between everything and it's shining through. It's too bad the sky's colors weren't more dramatic and there weren't any clouds. I have a hard time with sunrises most of the time because it always depends on the colors, weather conditions, how many clouds are out there, etc. I'm still working on sunrises. They're difficult for me because I'm not used to waking up early.

posted by TomW on Mar 25, 2008 at 10:33 PM

Colornine, it should appear right away.  I'm not sure why it's not.  After you've pressed save, are you seeing this:

posted by TomW on Mar 25, 2008 at 10:36 PM

Very nice, Nancy.  I hadn't caught that either.

Robin, if you only got an hour of sleep before posting this, you could just *stay* up for sunrise.  :)  Humor is going to be tough for me too.  We've got a lot of good graffiti around here so I'll get a couple of those.

No, I'm not seeing that, Tom.  But when I view my profile, I see the picture in the "My Stuff" box.

I need to hit the sack.  Maybe I'll fool around with it again some tomorrow.  If you can figure out what I'm doing wrong, though, please let me know.  Thanks!

 Thanks Tom.

Robin, I checked thesunrise time on the weather site then got up at 5:30 determined to get an Easter picture for this blog.  I can't count the times I went out the front door checking to see if the sun was up yet.  I had the family over for breakfast later so I didn't have time to stand ourside and wait.  I was lucky to catch it just as it was shining through that hole in the trees.

As for humor..I may have one for that too.  My dog was pretty humorous growing up.  My 15 month old ggrandson managed to put himself in a small basket but got out before I could get the camera.  The other day he put it on his head with the handle under his chin... I missed that one too.  Humor shouldn't be hard to find with animals and kids.

I like the ongoing themes, it gives us a challenge.
