Restoring and building Street Rods.

Restoring and building Street Rods has been a passion with me since my "Rat Rod"  high school days.  I have restored the following cars.  A "30" Model A pick-up, a 57 Chevy Apache pick-up, a "75" Chevy El Camino, a "31" Ford Vicky and a "29" Model A Tudor (my present Street Rod... To be a true classic, restored cars must have the original manufactures steel bodys.  After market steel fenders and running boards are acceptable but NEVER fiberglass or plastic parts.

One picture worth a thousand words!
While on a stage with other candidates at an outside meeting, Obama refused to salute the flag or say the Pledge Of Allegiance.  Should a man like this be President of our Country?  A man who would put his muslim brothers first and our county second.

While I would likely not vote for the guy, I would love to hear his explanation before condemning his actions/inactions. Maybe they were done and he dropped his hand.

I won't condemn him, but I don't want to hear his pathetic explanation either.  And, no, I don't want him running this country.  We'd all be in a lot of trouble.

I do want to know the whole story.  Were they saluting the flag or was the National Anthem playing.  I always put my hand over my heart during both, but many people stand with their hands at their sides during the National Anthem.

He's not in my top three choices, but I'd vote for him in the general election.    He's not ready to be running the country...yet.

http://www.snopes.com/polit... BLT I am suprised at you~ after all I listened to your "explanation" and I would hope we all would try to find out the truth of the matter before we grab our pitchforks and branish our firey clubs..

http://www.snopes.com/polit... and this  belies the mistaken belief he is a Muslim "brother".

I heard an interesting pundit the other day suppose a series of "ifs", if President H.Clinton(no!! please no ) would appoint him a S.C. justice,he'd be safely out of the way,he is by all acounts an excellent Constitutional lawyer/scholar and it's a nice lifetime gig for a fourty something man..ah the future..what will come to pass?

" Should a man like this be President of our Country?"

Absolutely not, regardless of what he did or didn't do in the event that was captured by this photo.

During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. -- United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171

Turns out that not wearing a flag lapel pin isn't the only way Barack Obama chooses to show he's a different kind of Democrat.

Have a look at the photo from the October 1, 2007 edition of "Time." It shows Obama, Hillary and Bill Richardson at the Steak Fry of Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) on September 17 in Indianola, IA during the National Anthem. Richardson and Clinton have their hands on their heart. But not Obama.

A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS...IN THIS CASE A THOUSAND WARNINGS...WHAT A PRESIDENT THIS JOKER WOULD MAKE!

Check out the snopes link~ the jury is still out..but he isn't my choice either..Dodd or Richardson...BTW if we forgive our current President of the occasional misstep and I know we all do,having heard it several times..then it is logical to extend that along the continuum.

There are several pictures out there of Bush with his hands near his crotch during the playing of the national anthem, but for some reason not one conservative has shown any outrage over it.

Conservatives are such hypocrites, you know.

Pitch forks and fiery clubs?  I was thinking more along the lines of snowboarding :>)  That's not torture, is it?

Depends on whether you're above the board or below it, BLT.

For me ,personally yes it would be~snow icky~lol. I am surprised you would not at least listen to another human..but no matter, after watching 25 minutes of that video of water boarding >>I'm back to dasies in your guitar..;-)

What's the big deal Obama?  Either you honor your country and your country's traditions or you don't.  If you don't, in my eyes,  you are not fit to lead this great and wondrous country.

Sure it is his RIGHT to not salute the flag or respect the Star Spangled Banner.

IT IS HIS RIGHT ...

and I will defend his right to act in the manner he has chosen.   However, I personally find it disturbing Obama would profess to love, uphold and defend his country (in order to be elected this nations leader)  yet Obama cannot be bothered to pay homage to the very country he wishes to lead.   Hummm, something is terribly wrong here!

If this is the beginning of a new trend in political leadership, I find it greatly disturbing.

He will not get my vote.  Not for this reason, but a variety of others.

Was that a pun, meaning above board?  If so, it was quite brilliant for a Monday.  If not, then I guess I'll take the credit for the clever pun.

TSM. If there are several pictures of Bush out there as you say. let's see them. Put up or shut up.

From the other people in the picture I doubt is the pledge was being given or the National Anthem was being played. It's most likely was before or after. Or it may be that he had just met with the Democratic Congress and his heart was in his stomach. ;o)

Still photography at it's finest.  There are a lot of pictures out there with people about to, just did, might, might not, and all stages in between.  As anyone who has shot pictures at an event knows, they are shot in rapid succession and give an array of interesting poses.

In the picture Roy posted, Obama is the only one not saluting.  In RF's picture Lauras hand appears to be slipping downward as does the gentlemans on the far right that you can barely see.

Great point Nancy.  What's going on in this picture?

posted by NancyII on Nov 5, 2007 at 05:39 PM

A winking snarling lop eared rabbit about to attack?

hehe...seriously..that's a cute picture.  I love that expression.

posted by dgrealish on Nov 5, 2007 at 05:43 PM
It's not a rabbit.
posted by dgrealish on Nov 5, 2007 at 05:45 PM
No, really, she's shaking her head.  I caught her mid-shake.  But she looks like she could be about ready to attack.

It's like being at a sporting event and trying to get a good still shot.  It's almost impossible to get the shot you wanted. In this case your only clue is what people around the subject are doing.
posted by NancyII on Nov 5, 2007 at 06:35 PM

Debbie..I know it's a dog..lol.  It was the ear hanging down that reminded me of a lop.  I should have been clearer.  It DOES prove a point though doesn't it?

Wasn't it just last year that there wasn a picture circulating with the same type of thing?  Seems like it was Hillary ...it escapes me at the moment.

posted by dgrealish on Nov 5, 2007 at 06:40 PM
I know you knew it was a dog.  I was just trying to bolster your point that you don't always know what's going on in a picture.  Yes she's the same little mutt I rescued off Rosedale Hwy last summer.  She was then mauled by a neighbors dog in our backyard and had to have $1000 worth of vet care.  But, I wouldn't take twice that much for her.  She's a great friend.

I think that's just Bush's standard salute pose Random...

Hey, it could be worse, he could actually go all the way into the shirt....

People, are you going to vote for a man based on his religion?  Christian, or  Muslim, from what Ihave learned, there is not a lot of difference in the  two of them. I  understand they both worship thew same God. They both have fanatics in command,  Look what  we have In  Iraq,  A  stupid war, based on different philosophys.  It has been going on for 2000 yrs. Let us pray.

Oh yeah, everyone else had their hands over their hearts just for the hell of it, right Roy?

You conservatives are not only hypocrites, but comedy.

Who else had their hands right over their hearts except Laura?

They had just finished anthem and he was "standing down"

How about the guy to Bush's left and the partial gray suited guy to the left of him?

Get your eyes checked.

They had just finished anthem and he was "standing down"

LOFL!

Thanks once again for the laugh, Queets.

Look in the mirror buddy

I did, and he's laughing his a** off at you conservative jokers.

He's afraid to look in the mirror, Roy.

Although since he obviously "sees" what he wants to see (self-perception being the operative word here) he might not be as shocked by his ignorance as are we Roy.

You see, believe it or not, he fancies himself  as "smart". Now, quit laughing...............

And this from someone who was saying over and over again on this board a month ago:

"Now is the time to buy real estate............ Rates are going through the roof and will offset any psf price savings effected by waiting.............."

Need any more be said about  this sad person's general level of intelligence?
