Restoring and building Street Rods.

Restoring and building Street Rods has been a passion with me since my "Rat Rod"  high school days.  I have restored the following cars.  A "30" Model A pick-up, a 57 Chevy Apache pick-up, a "75" Chevy El Camino, a "31" Ford Vicky and a "29" Model A Tudor (my present Street Rod... To be a true classic, restored cars must have the original manufactures steel bodys.  After market steel fenders and running boards are acceptable but NEVER fiberglass or plastic parts.

Great Saturday at the Tournament.
Saturday at the Order Of The Dragon Martial Arts Tournament was a good day For the family. My Grandson (Black Belt) won a trophy and a Silver Metal in Weapons and Sparring. My Granddaughter also won a trophy and a Silver Metal in Sparring and Forms.
My Granddaughters friend who we have semi adopted Won a Trophy in Sparring and a Silver Metal in Forms also. Dom lives with his Grand Mother in the Cottonwood area and is a great kid. He is 17, carries a 3.7 G.P.A., Is active in JROTC and band.  They have very little money so we have helped him get started in Martial Arts and supplied his fees and supplies.  To see him come along and learn so quick is very satisfying.  My Grand kids invite him over to their house to practice so he in effect has two very good tutors.

Chico. Special Forces and Martial Arts is a good mix.  You don't want to pi** one of these guys off. My brother was Special  Forces and a Black Belt 5th Degree in Judo and Karate.  He studied in Japan while stationed there for a while.  You are right. They are disciplined and never bully. They are usually quiet and reserved but when trouble comes you always want one of these guys watching your back.

Can't imagine why!

One of my best friends is a nationally ranked martial arts competitor and instructor.

He started in special forces in the Army and continued throughout his life.

Of all the people I have ever met in my entire life he has the most even, "non-flappable in any situation" disposition of them all.

I have often wondered if it is the SF training or Martial Arts.

I suspect a combination of the two (and other life experiences) but I'm sure the MA has a lot to do with it.

When a person knows how to really handle themself in weaponless defense, it gives them an air of serenity that is unmistakable. I've never known anyone who was really good in MA of any kind that was a bully.

I'll remind the grandkids to take that into consideration.  I was so impressed at the Dojo with the students.  There were all ages and they were so respectful to each other and even to the building.  After the ceremony the sensai barked something and the students in their clothing (I forgot the name) all bowed with forehead on the mat honoring the bride and groom.  Honestly..I was moved by that gesture.

Nancy. I would recommend that parents consider Martial Arts for any child and start them at an early age, 5 or 6.  Not only does it teach them to take care of themselves but it also teaches respect and discipline. I started my Grandson at age 12 because he got jumped at the school bus stop by a bully about a year older. He had never had a fight before and knew little about protecting himself.  After the fight my Daughter-in-Law started driving him to school.  After about four month in Martial Arts I suggested that she let him ride the bus again.  After about three days the bully showed up again and  started calling my Grandson names.  He walked toward my Grandson and said he was going to kick his a** again. My Grandson promptly put him on the ground with a snap front  kick and when he got up, decked him again with a straight shot to the nose. My Grandson has had no problems since.

Roy..congratulations on your grandkids triumphs.  It's really exiciting isn't it?  I guess you saw last spring when my granddaughter Katie (purple belt in Jujitsu) and  her hunny bunny Mason (black belt, Jujitsu) married at the Dojo in Isabella.  I am awed at the respect and grace these young people learn when they get involved in Martial Arts.

I know you're a positive influence and support system for them...keep up the good work.
