Good News!
Thanks to those who offered assistance when I reported that my son was out of work and looking. He now has a job! He got it through a Temp. Agency. He went to a company in Taft with a weed cutting crew of five. He said his title was "Environmental Vegetation Eradicator Specialist".He cut weeds by hand for four days and they found out that he was a hard worker and was a Certified Crane Operator. He was assigned for one day with their crane operator as a test. He went back to finish his weed cutting job for three more days. The company then dismissed the weed cutting crew but told my son to come back the next day. They gave him a hefty raise and a crane operating job. He is happy with his work and feels great about finally getting back to work. 4 comments from 4 users

I am happy for him. Just curious: how long did it take for your son to find work? Were social services any help? I share your elation, but feel for the other guys who are out of a job. posted by

He looked for work for about 5 months. He was signed up at every Temp agency in town and must have passed out close to 70 resumes. I too feel sorry for anyone who is unemployed in today's job market. His advantage was he would take ANYTHING at ANY wage. We knew that it was just a matter of getting his foot in the door. He could take care of the rest. Some of the people at the temp service turned down the weed cutting job because of the type of work and the pay. It just goes to show that sometimes the starting job can turn into something better. My ol' Pappy used to say, "there is no such thing as a BAD job. Only GOOD and BETTER". posted by

Hooray!!!! You are absolutely right Roy. I got my permanent job at B.C. when I was working for a temp agency and was sent there as a receptionist in the computer center. I worked as a temp for 6 (Oct 1990 thru March 1991) months and put in job applications for any and all secretarial jobs that opened up. I was hired in April 1991 and retired July 1, 2007 with 16 years with B.C. I department change I made was a move up. posted by
