Restoring and building Street Rods.

Restoring and building Street Rods has been a passion with me since my "Rat Rod"  high school days.  I have restored the following cars.  A "30" Model A pick-up, a 57 Chevy Apache pick-up, a "75" Chevy El Camino, a "31" Ford Vicky and a "29" Model A Tudor (my present Street Rod... To be a true classic, restored cars must have the original manufactures steel bodys.  After market steel fenders and running boards are acceptable but NEVER fiberglass or plastic parts.

While watching a dull movie on T.V.. the other day my mind started wandering.  I wonder what the historians will think when they excavate 500,000 years from now.  Will mankind still be here.  To find the future it is often worthwhile to look to the past.

Was God using the trial and error method when he created the Dinosaurs?  Could it be that after a few thousand years he decided that he had made a mistake so he wiped them all out and started over.  When I mention God I do not necessarily mean the one in the Bible,  I refer to a Supreme Being who could have been the architect of it all. Okay, now he has a clean slate to work on, the Dinosaurs are gone.  Did he make the animals first?  Of course he had to make the plants so the animals would have something to eat, but the plants could have been left over from before.  Yep! he probably made the animals first.  He made the Ape but thought he did not get it quite right so he tried the monkey and Chimp. Well, that was better but still not quite right.  He experimented with an ape what walked upright with shorter arms and less hair.  He wanted to rest so he waited a few thousand years to see what would happen.  He took another look  and added another species similar to the upright ape with shorter arms and less hair.  After a few thousand more years he tried again.  He gave one of the upright apes the ability to think and reason.  He also realized that to survive he would have to have a female of the species.  He made the female weaker physically but gave her other traits that the male did not possess. Who knows? He may have continued to improve the species until he made Adam and Eve. I believe evil is in all of us. So is good.  He gave us the free will to choose either.  I also believe that for some reason or other there are men who have a stronger strain of evil in them and very little good.

One thing I've been thinking. If you believe in God (a supreme being) and you die and find out there is no God then you are just dead.  On then other hand, if there is a God, you are in great shape.  If you don't believe in God and die and find out you are right, you are just dead. If you die and find out to your surprise that there is a God, you are in deep trouble.

A new fossil discovery in Kenya has led to the theory that the 1.4 million-year-old Homo habilis and the 1.5 million-year-old Homo erectus apparently lived side by side instead of the previous belief that the species lived one after another. This certainly "shakes the branches" of  the current Human family tree since each of the species would be a separate branch, So many questions unanswered and so many answers unquestioned.

As to the future, I can't see us 500,000 years from now as a creature with a gigantic head on a spindly body.  I have no idea what they will find or what mankind will be at that time. They may be digging artifacts in hope to find the missing link between our species and theirs.

Just a few thoughts!

I have been spending about 5 days a week at my little piece of paradise. Located in the Sequoia National Monument N.W. of Porterville at 4,500 feet elevation.  I am on my way back up there tomorrow.  I stayed in B-Town an extra day this week because the weather is cooler here.  The weather at the cabin is grear.  It usually runs from 74 to 80 degrees on a summer day and about 60 Degrees at night.  No heating or cooling needed. I have no internet or radio and that's the way I want it, I do have a television for watching the news. Yes, my liberal bloggers, I do get Fox News.  Most of my free time at the cabin is used for catching up on my reading,  I just picked up 6 used books by Stuart Woods, my second favorite author after W.E.B. Griffin.  I also go for walks, visit neighbors if any are up there and ride my Honda Four Trac. I feelo extremely fortunate to be able to have such a place to get away from the 100 degree days in B-Town.
