Polices' "crackdown" on Bako Boyz

What is it that are police/chp/sheriffs find so freakin interesting about a group of guys/girls that meet every tuesday in a secluded location to have dinner and hang out... would the city perfer them to ride up and down a main street and annoying motorists? I myself dont have a street bike but are friends with quite a few of the members of Bako Boyz and Sin Cal Ryders and I believe that what the city is doing is utter BS in my opinion! Do they have nothing better to do with their time? I understand they dont want them doing something to interfere with motorists on the road, but c'mon a task force team that litterally sat and herassed them for 4 or so hours with approved o..t. from the council? I didnt know the council just had money laying around to promote stupid taskforces? isnt their something better that we could spend that money on like the city schools or fixing the roads? NAHHH lets herass a group of people that gather every week at the same spot to have dinner and discuss things...... good job team next lets go after the elks club or the red hat society they might cause problems too.... its just sheer boredom and utter dislike of these guys that are being killed by the sheer stupidity of drivers that dont look where their going atleast the Bako Boys are aware of others on the road and their surroudings.... and they arent out beating up/stealing or burning down anything..... new idea lets go after real bad guys k!! stop wasting money on useless stuff and last thing what exactly did they impound? I was aware that everyone that came on a bike left on it also.........

Well then I am glad that the close to 20 officers out there last night on overtime made the tax payers back their money by issuing 16 fix it tickets at $10 a piece lol. Dont worry no rant or rave, im over it, its comical at this point and yes we all learned our lesson......... License plates will be properly mounted on all bikes in order to save public lives =)

I am not going to get in the same back and forth banter that some people seem to thrive on here but I do want to back up what TgnzMommy said.  My son and daughter in law are one of those stupid people that need protected from themselves.  And I know that is a ridiculous statement.  This has gone entirely too far.  I hope if the BPD wants to be consistent they make an appearance at all other functions that involve groups of people that ride bikes, Harley's, drive old cars, or whatever they choose to ride to get where they are going to make a point with them too.  The bikers got it last week ok.  They only went fast night for their meeting not to ride stunts on the runway.  Now they have to go through this.  What in the world is up with this?  I would like to see my tax dollars spent on busting drug users, sellers, robbers, thieves, rapists to name a few.  But not spend all this time, energy and money writing fix it tickets to people that are meeting to dine and talk.  I know that there are going to be some negative comments back now so have at it.  I am not going to waste anymore of my time and energy on this either.  It is more appropriate to take my concerns where it does more good (as I have and will continue to do) I just want to support you TgnzMommy.   I am "Bones" mom and very proud of it.

lol, as funny as that would be to see, its not our approach. We will pay our newly issued $10 daily fee to ride lol

Tgnz,

You will come to find that even though this is a public forum, there are really only about 10 people that actually post on all the subjects, and they are usually there to leave negativity towards you instead assisting in finding a solution. Don't take it personal, and don't pay it no mind. Some public is open minded and will weigh in on both sides, while others are very close minded and set in their ways. But the last word will usually be a negative one and if you go back and forth with them, you just feed into a meaningless life.

I HAVE TO AGREE THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF NEGATIVE PEOPLE ON THESE SITES LIKE OLDBLUE AND TCINBAKO. SOME OF THESE GUYS WILL ACTUALLY INVESTIGATE THE WEB AND POST PICTURES THAT BACK UP THEIR NEGATIVE COMMENTS...As far as your blog post, i cant stand it when cops try to classify certain groups as "a threat" and then they give awards to other groups that are very similar...i'll bet some of those cops ride and are upset they aren't invited to the get togethers!

.......were you made fun of as a child or are you not coordinated enough to ride a street bike?

I won an amateur motocross championship in San Diego County. Next question.

I pretty sure there are more than 10 folks here, and while some are rays of pure sunshine~ others not so much, but all have a right to say their opinion. There are many more who read and never post.

I agree it would be better if people could be polite, but that is a rare thing.

I used to ride with a group of outriders many ,many moons ago. Harassment was a very common thing. Read the laws, make sure you, your bikes are obeying them and problem solved except for the pull overs. Good luck and ride safe.

What you don't like is the fact the police are cracking down on illegal behavior.

posted by BDub600RR on May 8, 2008 at 11:48 AM

Well it is obvious i must not know much about the law so if you could explain to me, what is illegal about a group of friends meeting to have dinner? i know the modifications on some bikes are illegal so if thats what was wrong then WHY WERE THERE NO COPS BUSTING THE CRUSERS? I was out at the other bike night meets last night and i could see their bikes have the same illegal mods as the sport bikes. NO ONE tuesday night was pulled over and ticketed for ANY traffic violations. Maybe if you could atcually link a source or two showing the law and the errors of our ways instead of just trolling and stating your negitive oppinion, it would be very appriciated. You know, not everyone on a sport bike is out to cause trouble and run a muck. Some are actually willing to find solutioins for problems and encurage safe riding to those who are less responsible.

Go to www.leginfo.ca.gov and you can look up any California vehicle code section related to motorcycles you want to. You can also look up the California penal code section related to trespassing.

I hope this helps. Now I have to go and spread my negativity to others...

posted by BDub600RR on May 8, 2008 at 03:11 PM

wow, might as well sent me a link to google.

So about the trespassing, in what way was it trespassing when we were not in the airport on tuesday?

so i searched for awhile and well this is where i ask you to do some reading yourself. we were on open public property leased by Harmons Rocket Shop Cafe. There are no fences around the parking lot, no posted signs, and it was not loitering due to the fact we were all there to cunduct business, also the owener of the buisness was there and welcomes us. He has never asked any of us to leave. So after reading the state law on this supposed "trespassing" please tell me what i might have missed.

also that still doesnt explain why sport bikes are the only ones targeted and not cruisers.

OldBlue, you know these folks are all for the police cracking down on illegal behavior......................as long as it's not their illegal behavior.  They have a "leave us alone and go after the real criminals" attitude.  It never ceases to amaze me that the "real criminals" are always someone else.

posted by BDub600RR on May 8, 2008 at 05:18 PM

So owning a street bike makes us criminals because there are a few bad apples out there? that logic makes perfect sence. well thats the same as saying, "oh hey, there are a lot of honda civics involved in illegal street racing so all honda civic drivers must be street racers and criminals.

Oldblue, im no trying to come off offinsive or anything but, come on. that page is like trying to search for a needle in a haystack if you dont know what youre looking for, i was just hoping you could have been a little more specific. and im not the best speller out there. I never really realized how negitive so many people are twards someone just because of what they choose to drive/ride. I just dont understand how people stereotype all bikers because of a few idiots out there.

Just wandering, how many of you think its right for police to pull over a certain type of vehicle without probable cause just because someone was caught doing something in that same type of vehicle? try thinking outside the box for once and put your feet in someone ells shoes.

oh and thank-you michele, that really made me smile. i actually had more luck finding california laws on google than the other link. =)

posted by dgrealish on May 8, 2008 at 05:47 PM

If there's an Amber Alert out for a certain type vehicle in an area, wouldn't you want LE pulling over everyone with that type vehicle?  When a bank is robbed and a description is given of the vehicle involved, don't you want vehicles fitting that description in the area pulled over?  If a motorcycle has been seen operating recklessly an an area, HELL YEAH I want LE pulling over motorcycles of the same type in that area.  I've been pulled over when I buy hay, not because I have ever stolen hay.  Not because my truck fits the description of a truck that's been seen stealing hay.  I've been pulled over because there's a hell of allot of hay stealing going on right now.  And if I get pulled over, I better have a receipt for the hay in my truck.  Quit your bitching!  Find someplace where you can legally ride your bikes and get used to the idea that we have to answer to LE!

posted by OldBlue56 on May 8, 2008 at 06:30 PM

bdub, if you took the time to type a post without all the errors you make, some people might take you more seriously. If you aren't a good speller, at least use the spell check feature provided here.  It's free you know.

Using the link I provided is very easy to use. Type in the word you are looking for in the 'search' line and up pops the results.

And the police don't pull people over without PC. Any good cop can find PC to make the stop. Especially with all the idiot drivers out there.

posted by Shwaine on May 8, 2008 at 08:11 PM

It's quite simple. The police were there this week because you (as a group, this is not targeted to any individual on this thread) were caught last week illegally using the runways. They don't know that you've learned your lesson. All they know is the same group of people who previously broke the law are meeting again. Given that, I fully understand why they were there this week. They expected you to keep using the runway. They'll probably be there next week and the week after that too, just to see if someone tries to use the runway again. It may seem like harassment to you, but that is one of the consequences of getting caught doing something wrong: you get scrutinized for quite some time until you're trusted again.

posted by Neverleft on May 8, 2008 at 08:16 PM

It's obvious why sport bikes and not cruisers are being targeted.  The great majority of cruisers I see on the road are obeying the law and treating the lanes as a car would.  The majority of sports bikes are racing from stop light to stop light, changing lanes often and with little room and riding between cars on the center line.

First of all, I seriously doubt that if any of these riders thought that they were doing anything illegal at the airport they would not be posting their whereabouts on their website for the world to see.

Secondly, it is my understanding from news reports that these riders thought they had permission to use the runways. Perhaps they should have verified everything with the city, but John Harmon, owner of the Rocket Shop Cafe, made it appear that the city was aware that they would be using the runway.

John Harmon, owner of the Rocket Shop Cafe, says the city made no objection to him about having bikers riding on the runway.

He wishes the city would have made its intentions clear, instead of sending police officers to break up  the weekly gathering. "They see there's some liability for the bikers out here on the ramp, but with no airplanes around, I didn't see a problem with it," he said.   http://turnto23.com/news/16...

I understand that the city would have some liability if something happened to one of these riders while on the runway but does law enforcement need to handle this situation in the manner that they have? Knowing that Harmon had given these riders permission, why didn't law enforcement close the gates that the riders entered through and notify them that they would no longer be able to use the runway instead of waiting for them to enter the property and then issue them citations. Knowing that they would not be able to use the runway this week, the riders decided to make the most of it and continue to meet at the Rocket Shop Cafe only to be met by law enforcement again.

I understand the group's frustration in wanting a place to get together with their friends and family. It seems that regardless of where they go law enforcement will be waiting for them. I also know it must be frustrating to see similar groups being able to organize events with little or no interference from the city. I think the riders are merely trying to get suggestions from the community on what they should do. Is it really fair to say that because of a misunderstanding between the riders, Harmon and the city that they have no business meeting at all?

posted by sincalryder on May 9, 2008 at 10:55 AM

There should be an organized bloggers meeting so that some of these people who just reach to try and find a negative opinion on everything would have to answer right away instead of sitting there for hours on end trying to reach as far as they can to find a negative response. Its all about be closed minded. At least us as riders are asking for answers and solutions, even a compromise. We openly admit that there are bid riders out there, and that they should be stopped and suffer the consequences of there choice to ride in such an illegal manner. To put this in the same boat as an Amber alert is absurd. If there was a child abducted or bank robbed, and the description was a certain color or type of street bike, then yeah I would see. But they are pulling over every street bike, color, make, model, it doesn't matter. When I see an amber alert they don't pull over every 4 door car on the road, they look for one fitting the description. So that is just kinda dumb founded to me. Also to say that the sport bikes commit the crimes is still reaching. I welcome you, in fact I challenge you to back up your statement. Join us at bike night, meet the people watch what they eat and drink and how they ride. Then we will attend a Harley bike night and observe what they drink how they act, and how they ride. And if you would like me to sit on some street corner with you so you can have me observe the difference from your point of view I will gladly do so.  Once again I am just asking for things to be seen from our side so a compromise can be reached. So with the time you spend on here bashing the bikes, I ask that you take the same time to come out, have some dinner with us and get to know what you are talking about, and if you have the same opinion at that point, then so be it and I will not challenge it.   Any takers?
