Inaction Is Our Middle Name

Have you ever noticed the FEAR of citizens?  I don't know what they fear, but it seems like people sure have a problem with voicing their opinion and getting involved in politics.  I sit here online occasionally and see what people have to say about politics.  I read today about the great injustice of councilmember Weir and his Abernathy connections.  And, I've heard all of this uproar before.  But the picture that bothers me is that this uproar never seems to carry out into the public eye of the newspaper and city streets.

People are more than willing to rip into something here in the blogosphere, but they never make the time to get signs and people together to go and protest.  Have you ever noticed?  I have only lived here in Bako for about 2 years, and the only protesters I ever see are those hired ones "Shame on" so and so.

I often wonder why this is, and I guess it's because people are afraid.  This is the only explanation.  If it was really important to you, than why aren't you out in the streets!  Make your voice known!!!  You talk on here about how some of our councilmembers don't represent us.  Then DO something.  And typing behind a fake online name is a joke.  I'll believe you when I see you in the streets.

"And typing behind a fake online name is a joke."

I'm not the one pissed off at my councilmembers.

So your fake online name is an exception because you're not pissed at the council members, your pissed at the people pissed at the council members. Alrighty then.  :)

That's right anti...hahaha.  No, I just want to see people get out and act on what they are writing about.  You know, I see our citizens just giving in to government.  If government is really on the wrong track then I want to see those who believe that actually acting.  The internet only goes so far.  Yes, I am in here with a fake name as well.

Oh, and notice that the title says 'Our' not 'Your'.  I include myself.

Local politics is rejecting "IN GOD WE TRUST" posters and seeing them posted in classrooms anyway (with a $12,000 price tag). It is also having the dirtiest air in the country and tens of thousands of new houses being built anyway. Local public offices are not slots that attract innovative, talented people rushing to fill the job. Otherwise, a lot of intelligent, knowledgeable people on this site would be running for office.

I like to hang at this site because the people are (mostly) local, I can get a consensus of what's important, I can have a few chuckles, I agree or disagree with eccentrics and fanatics (they have their point of view), I can read issues examined from a different angle, I can toss out my own thoughts for comment and I can even (horrors!) learn something.

Or I could make a picket sign and go join a ranting mob.

I hear ya Bonny! Just givin' ya a hard time. Maybe as Tom suggested on another blog, it's time to hand out the pitchforks and torches!

 Sounds like it's about time.

I've got some inquiries out right now.  When I get the roadmap, we can go forward.

TomW, is it you that asked Stan Harper to look into this?

Nope.  I have feelers out elsewhere.  I'm glad others have also taken the initiative.

When I make a comment against someone else, (my opinion only), I'm either shut out of the conversation, totally ignored, or even called a "bitch" for having such a hard-line opinion. (I am against illegal anything, for instance.)  I don't cringe in fear, but it does make for a lonely life.  I refuse go go with the flow, so I do speak up. But holding posters and marching, etc. is not my style, even though someone may wish that I would do that.  With my arthritic knees and heart conditions, I'm not the best candidate to be physically protesting against anything. I start in my small corner of my world, and have my say. It may not please everyone but anything I say or do doesn't  change much anyway. Just look at the last 8 years....my complaints, and opinions changed nothing.  But I will continue to have opinions, and fight for the right to express them, possible alientation myself in some circles. So be it.  But fear...no way.  Just know that I am powerless against  Washington and their narcisstic antics.  When was the last time any of us had such wonderful medical coverage and pensions (and raises yearly) as Congress????  Will my poster being carried on Chester Avenue change any of this?  Not in my lifetime, I'm sure.

Hi DutchLady

Believe it or not, opinions are what blogs are all about.  Your's are welcome too.  But don't be surprised or hurt if they're challenged.

And don't be surprised if you make an enemy or two along the way...it goes with the territory.
