Jackass of the Week Award

Ex-NBA star Jayson Williams allegedly trashed a suite in a suicidal rage and was subdued by a stun gun and taken to a psychiatric clinic, New York police said.

Police used a stun gun and two sets of handcuffs to subdue Williams. They allegedly found suicide notes and empty bottles and vials of sleeping pills, antidepressants and human growth hormone, police sources told the New York Post.

The Award is shared this week by Williams for being Williams and the NYPD for using a stun gun on a suicidal man.

The Florida Gators (+180) are the odds on favorite to win the BCS Championship title again. Loaded on defense, the Gators could win a third title in four years. Let’s don’t leave out USC (+550) as they are stacked once again, but they will have questions at quarterback after the early departure of Mark Sanchez. Will Mitch Mustain, Aaron Corp or Matt Barkley be ready to take his place?

Still feeling a bit slighted by the Big 12 tiebreaker rules last year, the Longhorns (+725) should once again be poised for another 2010 title run, but they will need to get by the Sooners (+550) who produced a dominating offense, but fell short against the Gators in the title game last season. The return of QB Sam Bradford and TE Jermaine Gresham will be a good start but will it be enough to get the Sooners a championship title?

Tough games against USC and at Penn State may stand in their way, but the Ohio State Buckeyes are in the mix at (+1000). Terrelle Pryor enters his sophomore season at quarterback, leading Ohio State to an 8-1 record as a starter in his freshman year. His only loss was against Penn State.

Over in the ACC the Virginia Tech Hokies (+1650) are coming off another ACC title, but has Tyrod Taylor matured enough to win a BCS title? The season opener against Alabama will tell the tale as (+2000) Alabama is still in need of a solid starter at quarterback. Losses to Florida and Utah to end the 2008-09 season will still be fresh. The defense will have to shoulder most of the load, and Julio Jones will need to prove he is the best sophomore receiver in the nation.

With a blowout win over Georgia Tech in last seasons Chik-fil-A Bowl, the (+1800) Tigers of LSU are coming off an 8-5 season. Not their best season by far. Their defense will need to rebound after a tough year if they hope to gain momentum to make a bid for the title in the upcoming season.

So what about the rest of what the great state of Florida has to offer? Well the Florida State Seminoles (+2200) will look to get their program back to national prominence despite a tough off-season for Bobby Bowden, which included the NCAA threatening to take away wins. Then there are the UM Canes (+2600). With a squad knee deep in freshmen making up majority of the field in 2008-09, including quarterback Jacory Harris, this year will be much of the same. Can Randy Shannon’s recruiting classes come shining through to grab another ACC title?

To my surprise, rounding out the top 10 is the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame (+2200). The Irish have a favorable schedule, but until QB Jimmy Clausen steps it up, a championship is a long ways away from heading back to South Bend.

Butch Davis has the (+3300) Tar Heels on the rise, and the future is bright in Chapel Hill, while the Ducks of Oregon (+3300) should be a very good team with the return of quarterback Jeremiah Masoli and running back Legarrette Blount.

With a solid defense and a favorable schedule, the (+5000) Huskers should improve on their 9-4 record from last year.

Others worth mentioning are Penn State (+4000), West Virginia (+6000), Ole Miss (+3000), Georgia (+5000), and Georgia Tech (+5000).

Now that football season is quickly approaching, fans and bettors alike will be trying to gather as much information as they can in order to make as many correct picks in the upcoming NFL season.

So here are my 2010 Super Bowl XLIV Best bet picks. Note: The following superbowl odds are an accurate representation of the betting odds for Super Bowl XLIV

New England Patriots +350 - They’ll be very good, but not as great as in 2007. There are issues with the defense, and who knows what to expect from Tom Brady. They have weapons at wide receiver with Randy Moss and Wes Welker and running backs are plentiful with Sammy Morris, Fred Taylor, Lawrence Maroney, Kevin Faulk, and Benjarvis Green-Ellis. The offensive line is solid enough to provide a few holes per game. The Patriots defense is lacking. The secondary is nothing special, but the defensive line is excellent at stuffing the run.

New York Giants +1000 -Despite their receiver woes, the Giants are still in the hunt to return to the Super bowl. Eli Manning sets up behind a great offensive line and Steve Smith, Dominick Hixson and Hakeem Nicks should step it up this season. The running game is solid with Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw and Kevin Boss rounds out the offense at tight end. New York’s defense is what makes them the best team in the running for the Super bowl. With a defensive line featuring Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora, and recently added Chris Canty. The linebackers all perform well in their roles, especially Michael Boley. There may not be a lot of familiar names in the secondary, but it’s an excellent group of solid if not spectacular players.

Pittsburgh Steelers +1000 - The offensive continues to improve and the defensive continue to dominate. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is great, but had a rough regular season. Willie Parker will need to bounce back from a forgettable season, and a healthy Rashard Mendenhall will take some pressure off of him. The Steelers receivers look good with Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes. The O-line has to improve. The defense simply performs game in and game out. The line is solid, the linebackers excellent, and the secondary great.

Indianapolis Colts +1200- Super Bowl caliber once again. They just have to have a little luck. Peyton Manning makes their offense potent all by himself. Then, you add on Reggie Wayne and Anthony Gonzalez at receiver. The offensive line did not impress me last year and forced running back Joseph Addai, to take a beating. Defensively the Giants are solid with defensive end Dwight Freeney, Bob Sanders at safety and Robert Mathis.

Dallas Cowboys +1200 - The Cowboys have not won a playoff game since 1996. It’s Do or die. This will be the season that defines them, and with TO exiting I think they will come through. Roy Williams will have to step up to fill the gap. Tony Romo will have to step up his game and tone down the off field actions, and Marion Barber will need shoulder the bulk of the running load. Jason Witten is always a solid performer at tight end and the O-line is performing well. The addition of Keith Brooking will be a bright spot in the Dallas D. The D-line is average and the secondary is weak in the middle, but the DBs can perform.

New Orleans Saints +2000-If they stay healthy and the defense does just enough, this can easily be a Super Bowl Team. . Drew Brees is capable of getting the job done and has an excellent receiving corps, with Marques Colston, Lance Moore, and Devery Henderson. Getting Jeremy Shockey officially at tight end only helps. The offensive line is as good. The running game is a question mark. Will Reggie Bush stay healthy? The defense was already solid and the addition of Darren Sharper at free safety adds a playmaker to a defense.

San Diego Chargers +1200- I pick them every year, and every year I get disappointed. Can Phillip Rivers live up to all the hype? He threw 34 touchdowns to only 11 interceptions last season. Vincent Jackson, Chris Chambers, and Antonio Gates will round out the receiving corps. The offensive line is solid, and LaDainian Tomlinson, who will tear up any D-line if he can stay injury free, leads the running game. If not, they could come up a little short. The defense at best is mediocre.

Tennessee Titans +2000 - Don’t be surprised to see this team make it to the Super Bowl. Chris Johnson can score from anywhere, and you can’t stop LenDale White at the goal line. Those two running behind a great offensive line makes for a great offense. Kerry Collins can produce at quarterback, and he has good receivers with Justin Gage and Nate Washington. The defense will still be great despite the loss of Albert Haynesworth. The return of defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch will help to keep the defensive line a threat.

Chicago Bears +2000- As long as they can stay away from injuries, this team could be in contention for the Super bowl and QB Jay Cutler will make all the difference. They’ve got the offensive line; they’ve got the running game in Matt Forte. Devin Hester will be Cutlers main go-to wideout. The defense will be solid as always with Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs. The front four need to get a bit more pressure on the quarterback, and the secondary could be stronger at safety.

Carolina Panthers +2000 - They’re still hungry. But can they improve their defense? DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart are possibly the most powerful running back tandem in the NFL. The Panthers offensive line opens the holes for them to run through. Jake Delhomme is still a quality QB and combined with Steve Smith and Muhsin Muhammad form an underrated passing combination. The defense didn’t perform last season as it showed in the loss to Arizona in the playoffs. The secondary is average. Julius Peppers will be. Jon Beason and Thomas Davis are the stars on defense.

I will be posting the odds to win the 2010 BCS title on Thursday.
