That's actually not a bad idea sage. That way your remains will replenish the earth when they decompose. That's very kind of you, I wish more old people would adopt that attitude of self-sacrifice.

God forbid when you get old!! And no, i'm not old, i'm just a young thirty two yr old smart a**, sounds like we may have 1 thing in common. 

I know! Getting old is going to be such a nightmare. But when I start to show signs of senility I'll probably have someone put me out of my misery. I'll probably fly up to Oregon if euthanasia isn't legalized here by then.

My parents are in their 50's and are very both intelligent, no senility yet. I think it's how you approach the latter years.  However, there are some very smart older people who blog on here as well.

That's true, there seems to be quite a few older, kind, intelligent bloggers on here. I really only wrote thise blog because there are two or three older people on the blogs who really piss me off consistently. I don't even really hate old people, they just annoy me sometimes.

Well, I certainly get a kick out of these blogs. Most days, I laugh so hard my boss probably thinks I'm crazy.  I guess the longer you're on here you will see why they are like that. Not too sure who you're referring to but not too hard to figure out.

Not sure if OB is who this blog was referring to but I may be wrong. However, ET since you brought him up.....I think he's funny as he**. I laugh the most when he is on here. He is very sarcastic and funny.  I happen to get his humor and don't think he is miserable, just calls it like he sees it.

When one gets to this "lofty" time in life it cracks me up to see young people become all knowing and all seeing all of a sudden.  Just a short time ago they couldn't decide what to wear to the school dance and now they have the world by the tail.

Remember when parents would say "Just wait til YOU have kids..you'll understand."  Lo and behold, you had a couple of kids, they smashed up the furniture, wrecked your car and you said.."Well, Mom and Dad were right, now I get it."

And so it will come to you and when you get older you'll look back and say "damn, I wish I was as smart now as I was in my twenties." 

Cycles of life my friend.  Cycles of life.  It comes to us all in time.

You probably are old according to my grandkids so why wait to go to Oregon.  Do it now and you'll never have to  suffer the ravages of the 40's, 50's, 60's or god forbid the 70's. A  happy go lucky, cheerful guy like you should do something now before it's to late and you lose your nerve.  You might even find some help from an old shakey handed gun toter on these blogs.

Maybe you contributed to social security, but not every old person did. In fact, there are plenty of old people collecting social security who have not contributed one red cent to social security or to society in general. So while I save a lot of money like an intelligent person in a saving's account while still contributing to social security, I bet I'll never see a dime of my contribution. That's why I have a backup. People would be smart to do the same. Then again, why save any money at all? Everyone knows that the old people who squander their money are given the most aid from the state.

I do believe that in this case, you are the idiot. You say you worked for more than 30 years but how much did you work? Most people work more than 30 years. Say you started working at 25, that means you were 55 when you retired. Most people have to work past that age. I anticipate having to work until the age of 65 at the VERY LEAST. In any case, you were probably a cop or a teacher. Everyone knows the government gives cops and teachers more money than they're worth and lets them retire way earlier than the rest of us.

Also, you might want to chill out a bit. I'm sure that neither myself, nor bartley wants to be responsible for you having a heart attack even if you are ignorant.

Nancy, I'm glad to know that you've worked for social security. Personally, even though I'd classify myself as middle-of-the road with a liberal bent, I wish they would privatize social security. One relative of mine collects social security but she's never worked a day in her life and another relative collects social security but she was a stay-at-home mom most of her life and she worked as a secretary three hours a day for about five years which leaves me to scratch my head as to how she qualifies especially since I can't imagine she contributed as much as she receives. Maybe that's where my misconception comes from. Hmm, I must research this. To be honest, I'm more into social issues than economic ones. Basically, I don't spend more than I make and I save as much as I can (which these days isn't as much as I'd like).

I've always wondered how little old ladies could sit at home and order crap from QVC all day. Like, where are you getting all of that money to spend on figurines?

Let's see, OldWays, you've posted a name-calling blog signaling out old people, teachers and cops. Is it a coincidence these are also authority figures? I think you are projecting personal issues that are yet to be resolved. You have taken the time and effort to write a relatively lengthy essay expressing your animosity. Perhaps you could tell us of your experiences with elderly people, teachers and police officers. Apparently, they have not been good ones.

An advantage of being "old" is having experience and insight. If you take the time to know the seniors on this site, you'll discover many of them are well-read, informed and knowledgable in a number of fields.

Old people are also tend to be patient. Feel free to post again. I'll listen.

 So old people on this site, before you go around insulting other people, remember that we're the ones that have to put up with your old, dead, wrinkly carcasses. The least you could do is be pleasant.

And the least you could do is never make it to old age. Somehow I'm not too worried about it..........

Catpaw, to be honest, I like some old people. But, okay, I'll give you some examples.

1. When I was sixteen I had cancer and I was bald and some old lady at church yelled at me when I sat in her reserved seating by accident. I really wanted to punch her in the face but I didn't.

2. When I was twelve, I said the wrong words when I got communion and some old windbag came up to me after mass and got in my business (obviously I also have issues with religion). If I listed all of the times I've been slighted by old people we'd be here all day so I'll move on to cops.

3. One time, a cop literally cut me off on Truxtun and almost hit my car and then when I honked to express my displeasure he flashed his lights at me like I'm supposed to bow down to him and let him almost hit my car as much as he wants because he's a cop.

4. Also, I'm just kind of sick of some of the cops in this town. I was reading about that one guy who got arrested at court by the sheriff who also arrested that old man who hit him with a paint brush. I mean, two incidents sounds kind of suspicious like he's just really aggressive or something. And people have told me stories about some of the cops who do bad things because they can. Plus, I think most people who become cops don't do it to protect citizens, they do it because their grades aren't good enough to do anything else and it's good money for relatively little work with an early retirement age.

5. Teachers, I don't have as much of a beef with. I just think they make way too much money especially when most kids can barely read and write by the time they graduate high school (case in point: me).

I actually dislike a lot more people, I think Bartley and I have that in common. For me, it's easier to dislike everyone and then make exceptions for some people. Also, it's really fun to rile all the people on these blogs. ;)

You know Chico, somehow I'm not too worried about that either. But I have some time to decide on my demise. I can decide to die of a heart attack and start eating fast food everyday until I'm so obese I can't fit through a doorway. Sounds fun but it would take awhile. I can drive my car into the ocean but there's no guarantee of success. I mean, there are always those dumb innocent bystanders waiting to be heroes. I think I'll do it the old fashioned way and have my chinese slave-children push me out to sea on an ice floe. Yep, that sounds like a plan.

Since today is Mothers Day, OldWays, I encourage you to go visit a nursing home or a retirement center.  That is a very humbling experience.

That is a good suggestion Michele, but I think it's too sad. There was an old folk's home near my dad's previous office and when I went to his office I'd usually see at least one old person trying to escape. One time, when I was getting out of my car, a woman came up to me and asked if I'd seen her father who was blind and using a walker, that made me cringe. And one time, my dad's secretary came out to her car and found she'd left it unlocked and there was an old lady sitting in the passenger seat. When my dad helped her out she started hollering that she didn't want to go back and my dad's associate came out and she started claiming it was her husband (who I presume had passed on). It was so sad...

But today, I will be having an old people day anyways. I'm going to a relative's house for brunch. I believe the median age will be 55 at a minimum so there will be plenty of old people there. I don't know, I'll try to do something nice like get them some ensure or something.

I hope to go sittin on a hilltop, watchin slick cows (slick from feed not bein unbranded) moving to water then back to fillaree, with 223 watchin for wiley coyote lurking around, hoping for that one last boiler room shot...........

TOW & ET:   OH I have money market accounts but thanks to all you nice pipsqueaks - er, a, kids, I don't have to touch it!  It gets to sit and sit and get MOI' more and more money! My husband had a 401k for his retirement, but like many others the money was invested in the company he worked for and when the stock market tanked so did a lot of the 401k's.  So you see you are wrong.  We did plan for our retirement we just didn't plan on you idiots - oops, kids screwing up the stock market and making it take a dump.

ET: I've always been pro choice. I never said I walked miles in the snow. Fog and rain ya. We didn't own a car. walked or took the city bus. And no, nobody in my family (even my mom raising 3 kids on her own) ever took a dime of "free stuff", welfare, food, medical, or anything.  WE paid our way or did without. Unlike a lot of you free loaders now who expect to have it all handed to you with no payback or responsibility attached. gimme gimme gimme the operative word being 'me' is all you people know.
