Tiffanilynn - > Kids and Cars -> The Things People Do.
The Things People Do.

I found this very irritating and actually hurtful this morning..

As I am driving to work today, I see this car that is driving, just an older car, nothing fancy about it... and I get a little closer and see that there is a Calvin Hobbs sticker on the back (you know what im talking about, the ones where he is peeing on something) and as I get a little closer I am noticing what this sticker is implying. Under where Calvin is peeing is the word "America".

At that point in time I had so many emotions racing through my body, anger, disgust, disappointment, and the list goes on. I didn’t know if I wanted to run him off the road, or attempt to follow him and ask why his car would say this, but then I realized he may not even speak English, and my Spanish skills aren’t the best.

This is something that has been bothering me all morning long. I just wonder, what would happen if we (Americans) went into someone else’s country with a pee on "whatever country" sticker on our car.

My thoughts on this, if you don’t like our country...GET OUT.

Yours Truly,

**PROUD AMERICAN CITIZEN**

thanks murphy, it just really ticked me off this morning :)

Was the Calvin figure labeled  "Bush"?  I'm ticked off about that too.

Tiffani, I'm with you.  I wonder if they had a license or insurance.  I can't understand why a person who felt that way about a country would be here in the first place.  I sure hope his "political" statement gets him pulled over allot!

posted by Tiffanilynn on May 22, 2008 at 11:42 AM

i hope he gets pulled over, then deported back (if he IS here illegally). if he is here legally, then maybe he should try moving to whatever country he represents, cause it sure isnt usa.

RF- i didnt see any labels...

Maybe he's a member of the 700 Club.

Tiffanilynn, was this in the Rosamond area?  I was going to keep an eye out but I don't get out your way but every other year.

When I worked in Delano I saw that fairly often.  Seems that city had as many illegals getting freebies as any city I ever worked in and I think I spent time in every city in Kern.  Never saw it on a black or whites vehicle.  I really wanted to sneak to their place late at night and put a rock through the decal.

All of the Calvin ripoffs bother me. I'd like them all busted for copyright infringement and for the continual desecration of a wonderful comic creation.  But  Bill Watterson does not have Disney's legal  pockets and clout  to go after all these thieves. This is a particularly offensive  theft of likeness and comic intent. You could always try to get the license plate and report it to the DA's office on a copyright theft. It gives law enforcement a reason to stop and search.

adam- i wish i would have thought of that! but i was so enraged it slipped my mind, but that is a thought for next time, thanks :)

RF- this was in Lancaster... i only can hope to see this car again, there will be a call made.

posted by gsisola on May 22, 2008 at 01:34 PM

Ah....Lancaster, the birthplace of my sweetie Tami.... 1961...I'm sure it was a nicer place "back in the day"

As I grow older in life... 50 now.... I have learned to not let ignorant people bother me as much... as much, I said. All it does is stress you out....it sure messes you up.... and what happens to A-hole... nada.

Tiff.... please don't let stupid people bother you that much... I truly believe that you are above that... dust yourself off... smile...and keep your head held high !!!

Was this person hispanic and is that why you didnt think they spoke english?

The other day my dad saw a car with a bumper sticker that said "A small town in texas just lost its town idiot" in reference to president bush.  My dad who loves his country pulled up next to him and yelled, "you must be from a small town in texas".  Funny stuff if you ask me.  He doesnt love President Bush too much right now, but still feels strongly about having a reverence for the president.

Some people just dont realize how dumb they look when they put stuff like that on their car.

FOOT..... LMAO big.... for real !!!

Tiff-did the car have alot of chrome, a mexican flag and a big Michocan sticker on the window? (hahahahahaha, joking)!! And I must agree, you don't like the country, leave, after all that is your right.

Foot-that was funny!!

yes foot they were hispanic.... it was an assumption i made that they may have not spoke english lol.

Michele-- actually no it didnt, for once... lol. typically yes, this time, no... he must not have had the car that long.

OK-jfrancais, here's one.....dumb obvious things peope put on their car:  If you drive a honda, toyota, etc., why also put the stickers on your car?  We can see the emblem.

It's dangerous to have your POV displayed on your car.  Maybe Cat will tell you what happened to her when she was barely out of her teens and met a psychopath on the road.

I remember a girl in HS wearing an "OJ did it!" shirt a cuople of days after the verdict. Man, it was an ugly incident! She was jumped by about ten (black) girls.

i have two stickers on my car, and they are the shop that i buy my parts from, and its because they are good friends, but im even considering taking those off because of their competitor... he has dones some nasty things to people with our stickers on the cars.....

im still irritated. i need to get over it lol

I have only one sticker: "Trekkie on Board"

Lord knows what people think when they see that.

""back to the original post.... whoever printed that sticker for that idiot needs to leave our country too if they really feel that way... "

Soooo, let me get this straight. Are you saying you are against free speech? I don't like the message either, however, I will fight for his right to say it.

posted by CatherineBaker on May 22, 2008 at 03:46 PM

Mom,

I don't remember ever having any incendiary stickers on my car, just Depeche Mode stickers.  Was it a Clinton/Gore sticker?

Anyway, the only sticker on my car now is CALM.  I wanted to show support for CALM, and maybe tell whoever's behind me to CALM down!  : )

posted by Tiffanilynn on May 22, 2008 at 03:50 PM

No im not stating that i am against their freedom of speech, they can say what they want, and what i have to say to them is get out of our country if you dont like America. that is all, and i think the guy/girl that made the sticker can get out of America if he/she doesnt like it either. No one made them stay here, this is a free country they can leave at their own will no one will stop them.

I have one bumper sticker on my TOYOTA.  "Annoy a liberal,  work, succeed and be happy".

posted by jfrancais on May 22, 2008 at 03:52 PM

Not against free speech Chica, only against those who say things that aren't of consensus opinion.

jfrancais, California voters returned the favor to that bunch of black girls and all of their homies the following year with the passage of Proposition 209. The authors, Glynn Custred and Tom Wood, had tried twice to get the 600,000+ signatures necessary to get the California Civil Rights Initiative on the ballot but couldn't. After those Howard University students were shown leaping around and hollering after the verdict, 209's authors tried again; they got over twice the required number of signatures, and 59% of the vote in November. 209 withstood all challenges, and identical voter initiatives have passed and been upheld in several other states. Since 1998, non-sports-related black enrollment at UCs and CSUs have plummeted to virtually nothing.

Thanks, O.J.! Thanks, Johnnie! We couldn't have done it without you!

I see offensive stickers now and again and have learned to ignore them. I consider the source and such stickers could translate to "I'm a loser."  Very few people who have done something with their lives feel a need to express their hostility toward the American culture. I never see academic or professional achievements displayed with obscene messages.

posted by jfrancais on May 23, 2008 at 08:32 AM

JBS: I don't understand the correlation. A bill was shot down because a group of black girls beat up a student voicing her opinion (who said anything about homies)? Maybe that's you inner racist coming out. And why  is it good that Black enrollment is plummeting? I think that's a bad thing (especially since I think the CSU system is not as academically challenging as other schools I've attended).

Free speech right? Ok, does anyone know where I can get a Calvin peeing on illegals, liberals, career welfare moms...or how about "Life's a b**ch, Don't vote for one! or Stop the Obama-Drama! I would settle for- America; Love it or get the he** out!!!

posted by jfrancais on May 24, 2008 at 02:46 AM

Sure, it's right next to the bumper stickers stating, "Conservatives and Evangelicals are the 'loud minority'" and "Humanism over Americanism".

posted by NancyII on May 24, 2008 at 07:40 AM

I'd like to see signs mounted on car roofs like some businesses have where you can change the message and it scrolls across...or,  it could be fixed.  You'd have the capability of changing the sign to fit the situation.  "Your blinkers have been on for the last 20 miles, idiot."  or  "Get in the correct lane, idiot."  or "Get off my azz bumper, idiot."  Or..whatever blows your skirt up.  I've wished for one many, many times.

I saw Calvin peeing on America a couple of years ago on back of a pick up truck in LA on the 405 and you know it pissed me off. When I got to work I asked a co-worker who was Mexican what was up with the sticker and he told me that it was a soccer deal. He said it was like the sticker I had on the back of my truck of Calvin peeing on Jeff Gordon. He said that the guy most likely was not disrespecting America in the way that I thought he was but saying to the American soccer fans that your team sucks ........

WOW.......at my age I'm still suprized by what I read.

Gube - I would have never have thought you would come up with a possible positive explanation about the Calvin sticker.  But it does make sense.  Anyway, I hope that was the reason he may have had that Calvin sticker on, if not he will get his due in time.

I think everyone should see the "Ox Bow Incident"...good movie about jumping to conclusions.

OMG pop patriotism is so simplistic. Tiff you sound like someone who wants to make flag burning illegal.

posted by Tiffanilynn on Jun 13, 2008 at 01:00 PM

i would love to. why would you burn our countries flag? like I have stated, you dont like America get out. :o)

It is the soldier, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag. -- Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, Sergeant, USMC

Gube is partially correct. It is a soccer team but he's not peeing on an American soccer team. There is a soccer team out of Mexico City called "America". Remember, people; Mexicans are Americans too. I just love how everyone jumped on the racist bandwagon.

Thanks for that info, reyna.
