CSUB's Budget Woes

I just got word the other day that CSUB is laying off a large number of its part-time lecturers due to budget constraints. In addition they will be increasing the work loads of professors, increasing class size, and initiating a hiring freeze. In the end it will be the students who suffer the most. This news comes in light of the expectation that CSUB will have one of the largest incoming freshman classes ever.

Parents and students who will be coming to CSUB: you will be spending alot of money on your education. Demand excellence from this institution and hold president Mitchell accountable for this threat to  your education. Ask him why he pays more attention to the shift to Division I athletics and not education. Contact him at (661) 654-2241 or electronically at:
http://president.csub.edu/i...

Hold him accountable and demand answers.

Post script: Why hasn't the Bakersfield Californian reported this?

I know that this part time lecturers contribute tremendously to the students of CSUB. It totally baffles me as to where the administrations priorities are at. With all the increases no wonder students and faculty are starting to dislike CSUB. It's a shame because a lot of these incoming freshmen and current students come from middle to low income families and will definitely suffer for years to come just to get an education. How are we to have a better society if or students can't afford an education?

The don't need no stinking teachers, THEY ARE DIVISION I.  I wonder how many "Grey shirts" he has in his closet? Never mind this is Bakersfield where those thing do not matter, just show up at the games a pay for the real education will get at CSUB...soon! In most places not getting a real education would be a concern, but in Bakersfield a real quality education is just another elective.

+But it's third rate, remember, RKH? If they were Boise State, the D-I membership would help to attain powerhouse status+

I am trying not to remember Boise State power house as you say, but you are right Noise State and Bakersfield do have something in common, illusion of grandeur and a cow town reality. Thanks.

It's best to ignore him/it, Tolerance. RKH is all talk and no substance. You can't talk to RKH about anything on a serious note (or risk being called something totally absurd).

What a travesty! Higher admission fees for all students, higher common fees for Division I status for students, cut guest lecturers to increase class sizes for students, and this improves the quality of education how? This would be the only spot in California where you could do this and get no response from the community at all. And those projections for massive student growth at CSUB were based on what?

CSUB's Professor pay is the lowest in California.  My daughter-in-law was a CSUB Professor with a Doctorate.  She got fed up and went South. She is now making a decent wage for her education, expertise and experience. She said the instructors received very little support from the Ivory Tower Administration.

mitchell gets 300 gees per annum

he'll get a huge multi-million "severence" when he leaves

he even gets party and housing allowance

after all, he has to entertain at the David Crisp level you know

had to get the $2 mil DP to go Div One!
