We haven't had a Bloggers' Brunch for a while and I thought I'd just invite my fellow bloggers out for a meet-n-greet this Saturday.  I'll be there from noon to 4 and I'll even bring nametags if folks want them.  We've got a ton of new bloggers who it would be nice to meet and of course the regulars are all a treat.  Even the folks who just read but never post should stop by and see that we're all just regular folks.  Well, mostly regular folks.

I think that events like this help us to remember that as we fire our missives off into cyberspace, there are real people on the receiving end of those comments.

This will of course be a non-sanctioned event so you'll have to buy your own drinks.  :)

Actually on that same note, I do want to emphasize that this is a community meetup.  Folks from the paper are welcome to be there as guests of the community.  Heck, I might even buy drinks for a few of them.

Who's in?

What do you all think:  Should we invite the b.com staff?  :)

posted by etbartley on Mar 26, 2008 at 10:10 AM

I heard at the last meeting Jason kept interrupting and censoring people.

What Erik means to say is sure, invite us!  -J.

Sounds like fun. I'm game. I should be in town this weekend.

posted by timec on Mar 26, 2008 at 10:13 AM

I may consider attending. There is no need for me to wear a name tag. Lol

posted by gube on Mar 26, 2008 at 10:15 AM

Have you really done this before.....If so how many bloggers showed up?

posted by catpaw on Mar 26, 2008 at 10:16 AM

Sounds like fun....as long as some blogger I ticked off last year doesn't punch my lights out.

I'll be the one in the Darth Vader mask...

Gube...there have been 3 that I'm sure of and maybe one more.  Pictures are available.  I have the links someplace.

At the first one, only Steve, Scary Mary, Audrey, her daughter Cat, and moi showed up.  We met at Mauricios for brunch.  After that they were at Dagneys.

"Should we invite the b.com staff?  :)"

Only if they buy.

ROFL.  Kidding.  They're a fun bunch too.

This has great pictures: http://people.bakersfield.c...

Oh and so no one thinks they won't find us, I'll wear my Bakersfield.com shirt.

posted by NancyII on Mar 26, 2008 at 11:01 AM

Thanks Tom..I had to go find them in my disorganized files.  Funny that we didn't get any pictures at the very first one.  We must have been too busy eating and talking about the ones who didn't show up.  That's the rule ya know...whoever isn't there gets talked about.  :-)

That is the rule, Nancy.  I think there may be pictures of the first one, those are the just the ones I found.  Logan or Jason may have pictures somewhere as well.

I can't believe the one I went to was a year ago.

posted by jasonsperber on Mar 26, 2008 at 11:11 AM

Wow, thanks for taking the initiative, Tom!  (And Bartley, I'd use a popular internet acronym here that starts with ROFL but then I'd have to censor myself.)  ;)

We very much enjoyed hosting our blogger meetups at Dagny's, and only stopped because of budgetary constraints.  :(  BTW, those were just coffee and cookies, Tom, you're calling this a brunch--you makin' us omlettes?  :)

Here are some more pix and stuff from last year:

I'll definitely come by some time, it'll be nice to see familiar faces and "meet" some new ones!

posted by TomW on Mar 26, 2008 at 11:22 AM

Naw, Jason, just a sucker for alliteration.  :)  BTW, I don't think anyone here would only come if you guys are buying.

We like you.  We really, really like you.

posted by TomW on Mar 26, 2008 at 11:24 AM

Good thing you stopped yourself, Jason, or I'd have to report you.

posted by blognroll on Mar 26, 2008 at 11:32 AM

 Sure it's a "Blogger's Brunch." Sounds like a vast, left-wing conspiracy to me :>)

posted by FreeCognate on Mar 26, 2008 at 12:14 PM

So, a meet up during the day?  While the sun is out?  No computers involved? hmm...

We will probably pop in if we don't get lost.  Never been to Dagny's.

posted by woofwoof on Mar 26, 2008 at 12:30 PM

FreeCognate, no, we all bring our laptops and chat online face to face. (I keed, I keed)

Afraid I'll have to miss this one.  I'll be up in the Bay Area for a drum corps fundraiser chowing down on all-you-can-eat crab cioppino!

On a serious note (no pun intended), I'd like to stop by, if I can work it out.  I always keep a guitar in my car, so, if there's a demand, there shall be a supply.

Looks like only 3 meet and greets so far.  I can't remember if Steve took any pictures at Mauricios or not.   Hey Steve..did you?

Tom..the one where we met was the first one at Dagneys.  I couldn't make it to the second as I was out of town.  I don't remember there being any more.

posted by TomW on Mar 26, 2008 at 03:21 PM

OK, Nancy.  I only made it to the one where we met.  For some reason I thought I might have missed more before that.

posted by TomW on Mar 26, 2008 at 03:23 PM

AllRed, you can see some pictures of Random in the from the last few.  Chico should head on down.

Sorry to miss you, ColorNine.  I'll wave to you on the freeway as we pass each other.

Cassandra, next time maybe we can set up another one for the Alley Cat.  I love that place.

posted by jasonsperber on Mar 26, 2008 at 03:39 PM

There were three at Dagny's, March, April and May, before we had to stop having them.  :(  (We just didn't take pix at all of them.  The last one we only had a few folks, I remember Mattloch, Buffoo, Possummomma, and WoofWoof, I think.)

posted by adampayne on Mar 26, 2008 at 03:47 PM

I'll drop by to say high.

 Hey Nancy

The problem with being a part time blogger is missing out on the meeting announcements.  I'll try to attend.

posted by NancyII on Mar 27, 2008 at 10:12 AM

Great Audrey!  I'd love to see you again.  We're the "founding bloggers" of the meet and greets ya know..LOL.

posted by robinislost on Mar 27, 2008 at 01:56 PM

Well, I'm finally back after my Internet died on me yeseterday. So, let's see.

Oh yeah. I'm agoraphobic and scared of the city. Oh, and you think I'm kidding, don't you? :)

The more legitimate reason I honestly cannot go, though, is because, ahem, I still don't have my license. Man, I really need to learn how to drive, huh? I don't think my parents would be up for taking me downtown (sooo far from home!) to see y'all. They think I'm weird. Now I feel bad for saying I can't go.

Umm...I just remembered I might be starting my garden on Saturday, too. I need to get my tomato seeds in the ground so they're ready for the summer. I have to go to my brother-in-law's concert that night, too...

posted by TomW on Mar 27, 2008 at 03:27 PM

Roy, missed your comment before.  Have a great time at the tournament and we'll see you next time.

[edited: Apparently there was a Who under my "M" key.  I'll not venture to guess why it's working now....]

posted by AudreyB on Mar 27, 2008 at 03:34 PM

Hey Robin if anyone has a legitimate excuse not to attend it's me.

I've been growing my hair out and it looks like a platinum tumbleweed.  My appearance was OK for my family, they have to love me, but  it's not OK for anyone  else to see my wild woman of Borneo "do".

I may be wearing a bag over my head but I plan to attend.

posted by FreeCognate on Mar 27, 2008 at 03:40 PM

Audrey! I'm getting my hair cut tomorrow to try to make myself presentable for the meeting Saturday!  I figure my daily "hair in a ratty bun" work at home look isn't too presentable for the real world.  Come with me, we can gab at the mall!

WoofWoof: I'll be the really pale chick in the corner trying to get my eyes to adjust to the brightness of day.
