Unofficial "Bloggers' Brunch" at Dagny's Saturday

We haven't had a Bloggers' Brunch for a while and I thought I'd just invite my fellow bloggers out for a meet-n-greet this Saturday.  I'll be there from noon to 4 and I'll even bring nametags if folks want them.  We've got a ton of new bloggers who it would be nice to meet and of course the regulars are all a treat.  Even the folks who just read but never post should stop by and see that we're all just regular folks.  Well, mostly regular folks.

I think that events like this help us to remember that as we fire our missives off into cyberspace, there are real people on the receiving end of those comments.

This will of course be a non-sanctioned event so you'll have to buy your own drinks.  :)

Actually on that same note, I do want to emphasize that this is a community meetup.  Folks from the paper are welcome to be there as guests of the community.  Heck, I might even buy drinks for a few of them.

Who's in?

 Nancy

I'll be there shortly after 12.  I want to sit and watch the other people arrive.  It'll be fun guessing who's who.

What time do most of you plan to be there?  Tom said noon.  motopoet said 1 pm...  Any preferences?

If I can drag my old wrinkled bones  to the bloggers ball, so can the rest of you.    Unless you have a temp of 104, are out of town,  don't have a babysitter, are antisocial,  or have a note from your mom, spouse or doctor, please try to attend.  I want to meet everyone.

Alas, looks like I won't be there.  Got a head/chest cold I thought I'd whupped get up off the mat and hit me with a chair.  Send flowers...going back to sickbed.

I can't sleep. Thought I'd use the opportunity to nudge JBS.   Come on .  It'll be fun!  You can bring your machette and I'll bring my "sword".   I'll be leaving it in the car!!!   ----   You can still be mean afterwards....  online.

It would be a hoot talking about T.C........

CHICO! Um, I need to borrow your brain for a few days. Would you mind if I borrow it tomorrow and I give it back sometime next week after my Spanish exam? That would be great! :)

So, I have come to the conclusion that I have a more legitimate excuse than Audrey as to why I can't go tomorrow: I'm hideous! You all would turn to stone if you saw me in person. And don't even try to argue it. Haven't you ever heard of Photoshop? It worked miracles on my default picture! Seriously.

But honestly, I really can't go because I can't drive. My parents would never want to drop me off somewhere in the city by myself; my mom wouldn't want to stay because she thinks I'm weird, and my dad will be busy creating a backyard for my sister's dog. So there you go. If that isn't a real legitimate excuse, then I don't know what is. Oh, yeah...and I need to start studying for my Spanish midterm this week, because I'm already failing Spanish and I really, really need to do well on this exam. Sorry. I do wish I could meet you all!

Murphy - I'm not sure you could be given enough notice.  Spur of the moment is best.  Planning would bog something like this down.

Hope the turnout is great.  I look forward to reading a report on the get together.

 Oh balderdash.

I had a friend who used to say "If I think it I say it.  I'm outspoken."  My response to that is that it's just an excuse to be rude.

Not necessary unless provoked..and that isn't likely to happen at a blog meet and greet.  Hasn't happened in the last four..why would it now?

posted by Lingtaowoo on Mar 28, 2008 at 09:36 AM

I just may show up and be a fly on the wall so to speak.....

lol lol !!!!  Would definately like to meet some of those I yak with!!!  It is always fun to put a face to the words!  I think I surprise some people as they think, for some unknown reason that I will "roll over" if confronted!  SURPRISE!!!!! NOT!!

posted by NancyII on Mar 28, 2008 at 09:14 AM

Witters...the difference is that you aren't mean or hateful.  In person I talk the way I do on here too but there are some I know who wouldn't confront others in the way they do on here.  I'd like to see JBS for instance tell Ron he'd "shove it down his throat" in person.  HA..never happen.

If someone said something I disagreed with I might not say "balderdash" in person where I do on here (implying BS in a nicer way) but other than that...I'm pretty much what you see here.  I KNOW there are others who are not.

RF..I would't be surprised if that was true of most of us.

Nancy says:   "In a civil setting, most people aren't as outspoken or as abrupt as they are on their computers."

'cough' 'snicker' 'giggle'...............yes I am!!!!

posted by randomfactor on Mar 28, 2008 at 08:51 AM

Heck, I even know one of the bloggers here IRL.  Said blogger does not know I know she/he/it posts here, though. :)

posted by NancyII on Mar 28, 2008 at 08:46 AM

Tom..you may have something there with the observation that people are might be afraid to show up.  But we really don't bite folks.  And the ones I went to were friendly and a lot of fun.  Not a drop of blood was spilled.  At least none I saw.

With all the hostiity people see on here the thing that's forgotten is that we ar all people and may have even stood next to each other at a grocery store.  In a civil setting, most people aren't as outspoken or as abrupt as they are on their computers.

If you can make it...great.  If not..maybe you'll come next time.

Oh..an afterthought.  If you aren't sure of us.  Just come anonymously and order a coffee and pretend you aren't there to meet and greet.  How would we know the difference?  Then you can just observe what kind of people sit and rant on a blog.  Who knows..you might even like some of us.

posted by TomW on Mar 28, 2008 at 08:31 AM

RF, sorry to hear you've only got a short time for us but look forward to seeing ya again.

BTW, I know I' missing some people's comments.  If I missed you, sorry about that.  I'm just not as good as this as I'd like to be.

posted by TomW on Mar 28, 2008 at 08:27 AM

Nancy, true that.  We'll drag them out eventually.  I think lots of folks think we're all as mean and nasty offline when the truth is only half of us are.

May be there for a short while but can't stay long.  Spouse has prior appointment with a couple of galvanized needles.

How is it that I could have told you most of the names of the ones who won't show up?   Hmmmmmm?   LOL.

There are few reasons...but lots of excuses.  Good Lord willin' and the crick don't rise...I'll be there.  High noon..downtown.

Putchur money where your mouth is folks.

Yeah, this is kind of spur of the moment.  Sorry about that.  Next time we'll figure it out a few weeks ahead or maybe we'll just set a regular first or last Saturday of the month....

Nancy, you are right again. I promised my wife I would wind up the garden hose and change the burnt out lightbulb in the porch light. Oh well, maybe next time.

posted by NancyII on Mar 27, 2008 at 09:13 PM

Next time we should probably give more notice so people can arrange to be there.

Ladies please.  When you see my hair you'll be delighted with your own.  Not only am I hair impaired, it's super curly (read that frizzy) right now and I'm trying to let it grow some too.  Not easy but I'm trying.  Mine is in one of it's snits ....yuck.

Hopefully they own't give out awards for appearance.

Audrey..do you have an extra bag?

I really wanted to go but I promised a young family friend that I would help him film a documentary for an assignment at the institute he attends. A homework assignment.  I will be the subject. Only because we're friends not because of any talent or special life accomplishments.  Some of my friends will be interviewed and the spot we hang out at will be the primary location.  Might be fun.  If I don't look like an idiot I will pass along where  find it.  The trailer will be on You Tube I think.  Free

Thank you.  I'm glad it's over too.  I was beginning to feel real sorry for myself.

I can't lean back over the sinks while my hairdresser washes my hair, so I haven't had it cut since December.    But enough about my stuipid ear.

I've wanted to grow my hair out again for awhile but never got the nerve.

My cousin and I hang out a lot together.  We both wore our hair supershort and preferred jeans and shirts over dresses.   It occured to me one day that we looked like an old lesbian couple.   (Not that there's anything wrong with that!!!).  I mentioned this to my cousin and she started growing her hair out that day.   ;  )

Oh, I am sorry Audrey, I did not know about your ear surgery.  I hope that the recovery is going well.

 Free

I can't get my hair cut now because of an ear surgery I just had.   It was all the ear problems for the last three months that made me unable to make a hair appointment.

So I'm coming with my current non "do".

posted by FreeCognate on Mar 27, 2008 at 03:40 PM

Audrey! I'm getting my hair cut tomorrow to try to make myself presentable for the meeting Saturday!  I figure my daily "hair in a ratty bun" work at home look isn't too presentable for the real world.  Come with me, we can gab at the mall!

WoofWoof: I'll be the really pale chick in the corner trying to get my eyes to adjust to the brightness of day.

posted by AudreyB on Mar 27, 2008 at 03:34 PM

Hey Robin if anyone has a legitimate excuse not to attend it's me.

I've been growing my hair out and it looks like a platinum tumbleweed.  My appearance was OK for my family, they have to love me, but  it's not OK for anyone  else to see my wild woman of Borneo "do".

I may be wearing a bag over my head but I plan to attend.
