Has anyone noticed that Mr. allRed is AWOL?  His comments at various places and his blog apparently are missing.  Now...I know I'm new here...but I had him pegged quickly...and this is exactly a thread he'd love to be into the fray with.  Where are you Ron?  That red point of view is missed...and you need to be supporting your buddies on the other side of the isle anyway.

Darnit!  If people are going to have a blog...they need to be up and on it...and helping the discourse of their fellow politicos...not just leaving them in the lurch to us on the left.  If people like him don't come back...we'll just have to fight amongst ourselves...and that won't be any good...because we already agree politically...so where does that leave us?  B o r i n g!  Okay...just kidding...bloggers can go and do what they want...no seriously...they can!

Dusty, I don't think you want to go down that road of quoting one another.   You know what they say about those who live in glass houses.  I think we both know where that road will end, and at this point, I have my eyes set on the high road.

BLT..don't condescend to me..I asked a specific question about a specific comment you made. You and ALLred have taken my comments out of context and posted them on your blogs ad nauseum..and now you get your knickers in a knot because I asked a question about a statement you made here on this thread? You always seem to think you take the high road, and you don't. I just showed you where you certainly didn't. I have never tried to paint myself as you have attempted to paint yourself here as being above the fray and never attacking me or anyone else you do not agree with or who's methods you don't like. If you don't like my brand of speech you can stay off my blog right? Thats the method that appears to work best instead of you talking down to me and attempting to paint a different picture than what actually happened that day.

I have never put myself above others as you are attempting to do here by saying your taking the 'high road'. This must be a new trend for you since I just showed you where you did not take the high road Sir. You did not turn the other cheek, correct? Guess you could say you wallowed in the mud right along with me that day, right?

Murphyslaw, for the record I never said you were lying. I asked if you believed that your experience(s) could be translated into the universal truths you claimed they were. I'm not sure what "laws" would have been used to discourage us 30 years ago, but I'd like to think that I am as vocal socially as I am on these boards. If you're insulting me or anyone else for being well-read, or pay attention to things not strictly job-related, well I'll bite the bullet and take that criticism.

Any discussion between you and me, dusty, that involves finger-pointing, is not a discussion I care to involve myself with.  I don't want to waste any more energy pointing fingers at you, and I don't want to waste anymore energy defending myself against you pointing fingers at me.

I was addicted to blogging for awhile.  That's when the BLT's of the world really got under my skin.

When I learn to walk away from the blogs for days at a time I realized how petty the arguments actually are.

I'm glad you overcame your addiction, Audrey.  And I'm glad you came out of the closet with your addiction.  I too am a blogaholic, and I'm probably not nearly as far along as you are in my recovery.  And it's a little embarrassing since, as a shrink, I'm supposed to have it all together, at least in the eyes of the public.  Sometimes the BLTs of this world get under my skin too. 

BLT...you changed your post just after Dusty's...why?  You completely changed it Dude...

I got tired of the same topics being hashed out over and over and over.  No one's opinion was ever changed and the only result of the arguing was hurt feelings and anger.

I'd love to blog in a forum where all ideas and opinions we're  treated with equal respect.   Where everyone understands that an opinion is just that  ....someone's conclusion of what "truth"  is.  It occurred to me one day that no one has a monoply on the truth. 

We could all learn so much more without  the bickering.  Until then, I'll just pop in occasionally to "keep my hand in".

Really, Ive got to chuckle at the thought of someone so religious (by their own account) spewing such naughty words.  Maybe he's taking a self imposed time out.

Anny, in response to this quote "In the last few day, it seems everyone is attacking each other, we didn't use to do this sort of thing."   Actually, it has always been like this on the blog.  It calms down for a while then somone will get a burr under their saddle and the fight is on.  This is tame compared to what it used to be and even that was tame compared to the old Bakersfield Posting Board about 5 years ago.

I doubt there's anyone on here who hasn't had a raging or running battle with someone at one time or another.  We're no different than any group of people with differing views, the only thing that changes in person is that you won't hear them calling each other "ignorant" and "idiots" or "stupid" to their faces.  At the meet up the ones I met were courteous and fun....we had a great time.

Speaking of the next meet-up.  I hope it comes on one of the off weekends I have coming up.  One grandaughter is getting married on the 18th in Vegas, my nephew by past marriage is getting married here in town on the 19th.  My one granddaughter is graduating the 8th grade on the 30th, another family member is graduating high school on the 31 and my second oldest granddaughter is getting married on June 1.  Anyone care to float me a loan?

Sumo, you are probably correct.  i do often take advantage of the edit function to make sure I say what it is I am intending to say.  Sometimes I end up making it sound worse, but usually I end up prefering the edited editions of my comments. 

I don't give personal information, and only minimal biographical information, over the internet, tolerance.  I would recommend the same for anybody that openly expresses issues of politics and religion over the internet.  These topics generally carry with them intense emotions.  Most folks can handle the intensity, but every once in awhile, there is the unlikely but possible scenario in which a person could become a target.  

I'm not saying that I suspect you of being the next Virginia Tech shooter, and you are probably very stable and very nice.  But I don't know you.  In the interest of protecting myself and my students, and those closest to me, I am even more cautious now than ever.  I would not say that I'm paranoid, because unpredictable incidents of rage are a reality in today's culture in which we live. 

I will tell you that I am proud of my educational background, that it is legit, and that I am proud of the various colleges, universities and professional schools where I have had the privilege of teaching.  Maybe we'll end up becoming friends, build trust and develop the type of friendship where we can be freer to share more details about our lives. 

Audrey, I agree with you about the way things can get around here.  I've also come to the conclusion that arguments about politics and religion on the internet rarely end up being productive, and, in some cases, it brings out the worst in all of us.

Sometimes I feel that the whole blog thing is a very unnatural and possibly even psychologically unhealthy way for people to communicate.  Human beings weren't meant to interact behind monitors and share strong feelings with people they don't even know and have never met.  People act differently on the internet, and say and do things they normally wouldn't do because of the wierdness of the blog environment.

AudreyB...yes I am very much an Austen fan.  I haven't had the pleasure of seeing the Colin Firth version...I'll netflix it soon.  I have seen the version with Keira Knightly...and it is wonderful.  Gwenyth Paltrow is very good in Emma with Jeremy Northam as Mr. Knightly.  Good literature...very good.  I am not a Romance novel fan though...I prefer historical...but there's just some books and authors that a person cannot miss out on.

Doc, Lemme know if you want me to pull those others down.  I'd have shot them down earlier, but there were a lot of actually good links in there.  The name calling is ridiculous and makes the person speaking look like an idiot.

I've had issues with the apparent dissonance between Doc's words and deeds on the blog, but these seemingly unwarranted personal cheap shots are disgraceful.

You don't need to take any of it down, Tom, as I've posted something probably biased in the other direction to offset the other review.  But Tom and Hardliner, I do appreciate your support in terms of the name-calling.   As I've mentioned before, I welcome constructive criticism, and everything that either of you have offered me in the way of criticism has been constructive.  I take it seriously, and try to improve myself accordingly.  Sometimes of course, we all fall back on old habits, but I hope to avoid that as much as possible. 

I'd encourage people, to take both reviews with a grain of salt, and to listen to the songs, and read my words for themselves, and then they can form their own judgement.  I am capable of writing both good songs and terrible songs, and I am capable of saying both smart things and stupid things.  I am above all, a human being full of flaws.  I am a work in progress.  As they say, "Please be patient, God isn't finished with me yet."

I'll try to come up with a link to a professional journal article of mine for anon, even though he or she is not even willing to reveal his/her identity.   And BTW, it was a pretty good guess, but that's not where I am presently teaching.   As a matter of fact, I haven't taught there for years, not that I would be ashamed of teaching where I went to school.  I was not, and am not.  If I were an inept student, they would have never hired me. 

Thanks for taking an interest in my scholarly research, anon, though most of my published work has involved disseminating information to the lay public via articles of a more informal nature exploring the relationship between psychology and spirituality, and between music and psychology.  For example, I interview rock artists such as Barry McGuire, Pat Boone, and the Quarrymen (group from which the Beatles were born) from a psychological perspective and most of these types of articles are published at Phantom Tollbooth.

Doc, you and I may disagree philosophically and stylistically, but as I've said, there are many areas where we agree.  The name calling and attacks that extend beyond any persons presentation here are unacceptable.

I respect you for your position on the name calling and personal attacks, Tom. You are also willing to take action, and not to sit by and watch others here be personally attacked.  It looks like even though I did not request it, some of the comments that were deemed to constitute a personal attack on me have been deleted.  That shows me that you are for me, not against me, even though you may disagree with some of my comments and with some of my ways. 

And I respect your willingness to confront me on areas in which I go astray, and in a way that allows me to learn and grow, rather than putting me on the defensive.
