It's amazing how many christian leaders (followers?) are caught over in the Left Hand Box. You can't deny the power of human nature!

Well, *I* certaily count "lust" as one of my assets.

And where would America be without greed?

Well s810, Christians are called to struggle to grow in the image of Christ.  Now those who preach that men are just animals, life has no meaning and we should all give up; who waste their earthly life vainly struggling to feed every desire will never grow and spend eternity burning by their own desires.

Just let us know where you're planning on spending eternity, so we can avoid further hideous torture.

"Just" animals?   When's the last time you saw a cat fret about the meaning of life?

"When's the last time you saw a cat fret about the meaning of life?"

Humans are intelligent animals. Cats are not.

My cat disagrees with you.  Intelligent animals *DON'T* fret about the "meaning of life."

"My cat disagrees with you.  Intelligent animals *DON'T* fret about the "meaning of life."'

Huh?
posted by randomfactor on Oct 31, 2007 at 11:42 AM

There's a difference between "thinking" and "intelligence."  And between "cleverness" and "intelligence."

The clever individual finds ways out of situations the intelligent one never went near.  Humans are clever and worry about "meaning."  Cats are intelligent and worry about "dinner."

both are curious, thoughtful, clever, greedy and hungry, neither use much of  the intelligence, their creator gave them.

Random is actually agreeing with me.  Man is not a animal.  Something to be aborted.  Now how does he answer that atheist teach that life is with out meaning.
posted by randomfactor on Oct 31, 2007 at 12:38 PM

Where did I say *THAT*?  Man is not an *INTELLIGENT* animal.  Hence:  religions.

RANDOMFACTOR:
Cleverness and intelligence are not two different things. You cannot be clever without being intelligent.

The clever individual finds ways out of situations the intelligent one never went near.

Care to back that up?

Humans are clever and worry about "meaning."

Humans are intelligent enough to worry about meaning.

Cats are intelligent and worry about "dinner."
Cats are too stupid to worry about anything else. Also, don't assume that cats even have the capability "to worry."

MONTFRED:

" both are curious, thoughtful, clever, greedy and hungry, "

Are you going to justify why you think a cat is "clever?"

"neither use much of  the intelligence, their creator gave them."
When is the last time you saw a cat go into space? Or write a screenplay? Or discover the speed of light? Or buy a new pair of shoes? Or streamline a business model? Or major in mathematics at a university?

How do I answer that atheists teach that life is without meaning?  I deny that this is what atheists teach.

.

They teach that the meaning of life is not something some God told some shepherd out of a burning bush somewhere.  Now, *I* teach that life has no intrinsic meaning--but that you can impose whatever meaning you feel necessary to keep you from fearing the dark.   Just don't expect *ME* not to laugh at your guess.

What about Manimal?

posted by s810 on Oct 31, 2007 at 12:52 PM

Man is just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all-fours, who, because of his “divine spiritual and intellectual development,” has become the most vicious animal of all!

SOJOURNER7:

Man is not a animal.
Man is an animal. Do you know what a mammal is?

Something to be aborted
Clarify what you mean before you combine ideas that don't need to be combined.

Now how does he answer that atheist teach that life is with out meaning.
Atheist lives have meaning. You're assuming that a DIFFERENT meaning than yours means a LACK OF meaning.

iam....When is the last time you saw a cat go into space? Or write a screenplay? Or discover the speed of light? Or buy a new pair of shoes? Or streamline a business model? Or major in mathematics at a university?

you saying I'm not clever, I've never done any of those things, damn wish I was as clever as you, dude.

you ever caught a mouse by yourself, and with no tools, my clever cat did.

you to clever for me, carry on, I'll go back to my homework now.

cats can be clever. i had one once that ,in a new home, looked at at opening that had cardboard over it, no doubt smelled outside just a smidgen more and jumped on it till it came off`~ new kitty door. As i have never been a cat it's hard to say what they may worry over, though i believe dinner and it's variations are high priorities. Never met anyone who thought life had no meaning..even it all it meant was their own nerve endings and nothing more.Where do you met these folks sojourner?
