Triumph of the Believers.

Aprils issue of National Geographic contains an accurate article of the reemergence of the Orthodox Christian faith in the country that was the home of atheist communism.  For more than 70 years the atheist communist persecuted Orthodoxy and other faiths different from theirs.  Now the communist have been swept into histories dust bin and the Orthodox Faith has reblossumed to face a new threat to the Russian people.  The threat of materialistic consumerism has replaced atheistic communism as the main threat to the lives of the people.

I don't get it. How is having access to goods and services that make for a quality of life a threat?

He means that instead of praying to God, the Russian people will be praying to IKEA.

IKEA has a guarantee, and their instruction sheets are clearer.

Of course, but I commented on your silliness anyway.

I'll put up IKEA instruction sheets against the Bible any day for clarity.

Sometimes I'm a little slow. I still don't see how material goods threaten lives.

Material wealth is neither bad or good ,but taken out of proportion it becomes evil.  Like gluttony, alcoholism or any the multitude of ills that riddle our society.  If we live only to consume and not be proper stewards of creation as God charged us to be then we are no better than animals.  Just look how we treat the poor, our unwanted babies, each other and our environment.
