Wasn't this prayer just posted a week or two ago? I'm sure I saw all the same arguments and Snopes links recently.

And, incidentally, I don't have any problem with letting the prayer stand.  You might just make a caveat at the end that this was "commonly referred to as Graham's prayer," or something along those lines.  Then you won't have people taking aim at anything you've written here.  Sounds reasonable to me.  As does the prayer itself.

Guys, let's not argue.  Please?  Could we not assail one another just once, just this once?  If you all insist, I'll get all my ammunition lined up, and I'm not in the mood for slinging stuff. 

Let's just go ahead and say that this was a variation of a prayer used in connection with political activities in Kansas and Kentucky.  Versions of it were used in politics.  That's how the "laziness" and "welfare" stuff got in there, which I admit I totally disregarded.  The only hint that the prayer was at least incomplete is, as I said, the omission of Graham's consistent "In Jesus' name" or "In Jesus' name we pray." 

We all know, of course, that Graham did pray in public at political gatherings and events.  There'll never be another Billy Graham.

So I shall wish you all a good night. 

I think instead of trying to twist and pervert things.  We let everyone read the prayer for themselves and see how it strikes their hearts.  Surely you and Random can't have a problem with that?

And, just to comment on the prayer itself, do you think  when God hears" welfare and laziness" in the same sentence, God interprets good intentions on the part of the sinner who utters those words?

Truth is truth, irregardless of who said it.  We know that the Holy Spirit caused Barlamm's donkey to talk.  As for if it is factual, when has that ever stopped Random.  I have been challenging Random for a couple of years to back up his posting with facts and he never has.  Now he wants to argue facts!  The facts are that the premise are true and from good premises and good reasoning we have true conclusions.  So irregardless of who said it we have true conclusions.

In any event, Way, it's not anything to be ashamed of.  There could be worse prayers for the nation.  I'm sure there are.

Virgil:  I was wondering where the "in Jesus' name" was at the end, but I just thought maybe Paul Harvey left it out.  How do you know these were not Graham's words?  I'm not being belligerent or argumentative, just curious.

Way:  Billy Graham was truly an inspiration.  Once many years ago I took my daughter to one of his "meetings"; I heard George Beverly Shea sing "How Great Thou Art."  The entire experience was, as I said, inspiring, and I'm happy to have made that trip.  Graham had a persona that was unmatched by anybody, sorry to say.  He certainly knew how to preach the Gospel.  And George Beverly Shea?  Wonderful. 

Another interesting question is who checks snopes? 

Irregardless, of who said it.  Truth is truth and it sure scared Random and his master enough that they has to try to twist and distort it.  That sure tells me it a good post;) 

Amen brother Way..hahahhahah Billy is the last of his kind..seems we had more than our share a few years back but time and the grim reaper have cut us way back.. its actually kinda spooky we havent seen any near as powerful come along here lately..the best speakers are politicians and that tells me we are in for a heap of trouble..
